As a dad and a husband myself, I found my gaming PC collecting dust just because it is hard to be sitting in one spot for my gaming needs. Ended up picking up the steam deck when a another dad buddy of mine was talking about how he has found way more time to play the games he has been wanting to play thanks to not only the portability, but also the suspense feature it has. Picked it up and was able to get back into the hobby I have loved for twenty years now. Not only that, the streaming feature of the steam deck allows me to play those high graphically demanding games in the palm of my hands. Now when I find that I have time to hop on the PC and game, I'd rather just sit next to my wife as she watches her show and knock out a few hours of game. And talk about back log killer!
I’m not a Dad, I’m a mom and I’m here. Love your channel! I’m mesmerized by the coffee making process. It’s a relaxing and comforting vibe.
welcome to the crew. Moms are more than welcome
I feel exactly the same way about the steam deck. Being a father to two 5 year olds is fun and being a gamer is a challenge but it’s doable. Being a dad, a husband, a man is a lot but it’s also very rewarding.
All of this was perfect from the values you portray, to the spending time with your kids, to being intentional with both gaming and other things in your life. Even the crap thats on tv now LOL. I love this. And i just became a day with a 4 month old now and steam deck has been amazing for me.
totally man. Dad first
Im not a dad but an 18 year old and i really enjoy watching/listening to your videos while playing on my steam deck. I really do think its a brilliant product and love hearing other peoples thoughts about it. And like you said its perfect for getting right into pc gaming because if the transition from console to the deck isnt that big of a gap if you dont tweak your deck etc. and then if someone goes to the steam deck to a actual gaming desktop pc theyll have all their games from their steam account
It's pretty cool to see. I have never games on PC so it's a wild world
I watch the cup while feeding the 2mo old at around 2-3 am. I get her to bed, ahower, brew a cup in my v60, read my Bible and then turn on ToTK right now. Saving for either a Deck or Switch 2. Handheld flexability is definitely the most importnnt factor dor my gaming.
The steamdeck and the ps vita definitely brought back my love of gaming this past year.
The steam deck has been a lifesaver for me as I come and go from my doctor’s appointments and treatments and has made gaming a whole lot easier for me
yea man. it is nice to be able to pick up and go
Im sure youll find Valve is a much better company than nintendo soon, they are the one company that actually listens to its customers.
On a side note, this really is the gaming dad channel that i needed
Being a 23 year old dad of 2 under 2, steamdeck is the only possible way I can game for at least an hour or 2 everyday or atleast every other day. Self care and hobbies helps you become a better dad imo.
Just got the steam deck 512 GB just 3 hours ago. Playing GOW 2018 and mannn, this little thing is amazing. Really a game changer
Thank you, julien!! As a dad that struggles to maintain this hobby that lives in a world that looks down upon it or makes you feel bad about gaming. You help me to not care what people think and have a balanced and healthy approach. As well as remain excited to game. Keep doing what you are doing man we all need you!!!
Every now and then, the TH-cam algorithm does something special. About to be a dad for the first time with my son being due in 9 weeks.
Got a deck a few months ago, and have been loving it and joining this community! This channel is on the money!
Hey. I just found this channel earlier this week. Im a dad of a 2 year old, and i just received my Steam Deck yesterday. I had been eyeing the Steam Deck for a little over a year and finally pulled the trigger. Really glad i found this channel focused on gaming dads.
I’m 33 with 4 kids, oldest is 10 and I have a gaming PC. I got him a steam deck but he loves his ps5 so I started to use his dust collecting steam deck and I’m super impressed. I run a business and with 3 kids in sports I can see myself getting one for myself. I did a mission on Helldivers 2 with a friend while I was at work taking a break 😂 waiting to see if the Rog Ally 2 is worth getting over the OLED Deck.
If the rog ally has a oled screen it will be better! But they will need to get away from windows.
@@miguelrenteria2390 Idk if they can get away from windows I think they do need track pads to make it less frustrating but then again I never used one.
Well said. I've been enamored also with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth but being a dad of two young girls, I can't always play on the tv. But with the Steam Deck, I can play it still via remote play while still spending time with my family. Such a blessing to be able to do both.
PURCHASED A ALIENWARE AND STEAM DECK. I run a warehouse and have a girlfriend that I love to spend time with. This allows me to spend time in the living room instead of my office and watch a movie and play. To add I bring it daily to work for down time. The deck is amazing for cross play allowing me many options where I play my PC games.
I find myself playing the steam deck more than my alien PC:) Great investment!
Man... as a first time dad for about 11 months now there isn't a TH-cam video out there that I have related to more than this video. Instant sub for me. Thank you sir. Keep up the quality content.
You mention alot of things that I connect with. I’ve been gaming since the 80s and has been a consistent hobby for me. Once I had my second child which is 2.5 years apart from my first kid, gaming and life got really difficult. The jump from 1 kid to 2 was huge for me. I didn’t want my kids watching me play violent games or "scary" games so playing when they were around wasn't happening. I also almost quit gaming all together.
once I got the steam deck oled that has changed a lot for me. This is the closest thing to a PC rig that I have ever owned. The switch was the primary console that was being used at my house because of the kid, friendly games and because of its mobility. Now that I have the steam deck, I'm able to play all the games I want to play and still hang out with the kids.
I recently found your channel and I'm really enjoying it, keep up the great work and content.
I have two kids 6 and 2 years old, and haven’t played games since the first was born, haven’t got a steam deck yet, but I’ve been looking at it for precisely the reasons you give, the idea of being able to play elder scrolls again is exciting… keep up the good work from a 45 year old dad in England.
Dude I feel like I relate to you so much, I've got two kids 5 and the other is 6 weeks old. I've been looking heavily into getting the steamdeck due to just not being able to sit at my PC / PS5 and enjoy games anymore. I've also been waking up at 4am and those few hours you get to yourself before the day begins is just bliss. Love your videos and find them so relaxing 😌
congratulations on the 50k! as a father of also a 3 year old and 10 one month old, i'm in the exact same situation regarding gaming. great tips about gaming as a dad.
love the content keep it up!
For me, the best thing about the Steam Deck is the controls. The layout is near perfect. Trackpads are great for RTS games. Plus, for example, I can remap a keyboard and mouse layouts with mouse gyro aiming for games originally intended for console joysticks.
Love your channel and just realised that you havent been doing this for long makes me think I can get into making videos again.
Same here….steam deck brought me back to play games after 20yrs. I’m a 40yr old dad……
FF7 rebirth streaming remotely from PS5 to Steam deck is AWESOME!!!
Congratulations to 50k, 100k onwards.
Thank you so much!!! hopefully this year!
As a dad of a 3 year old and 1 year old steam deck and the switch has made gaming possible for me again. I hated locking my self away in a room, also updates took away a big chunk of my play time! As a stay at home dad it is lonely at times, its hard to make mum friends but the deck helps socialise with my friends more (especially fun on lethal company) Tip- if your going to show your daughter horse riding on red dead 2, try to avoid ambushes lol
Wow this is such a great channel sir such a chill time talk with coffee. I can specially relate to what you say "I'm tech enthusiast but PC dumb". I just bought gadgets that are ready to use that I need with a bit of research but building a PC? nah~ dont wanna do it😂
Literally getting a steam deck next week because my kids take up most my time and gaming on my desktop is amazing but hard to find time for
Really enjoying your videos and loving the topics you are hitting on, thanks for making them! My life situation is so much like yours. Steam deck is a perfect fit. Definitely on the same wavelength as you. 👍😅
Right on man. To be honest, I am overwhelmed by the positivity and others in my same position
Don't have a deck simply because my steam library isn't huge. But yes the switch my x box series s rog ally, and portable monitor. Keeps me in th game as a full time working father of 3 and a stepfather of 3. My journey started 4 years ago when I got sober and it started with my switch. Made me fall in love with games again in my 30s. Handheld and portability keep me in the game.
Edit I respect the tech enthusiast yet not pc savvy comment. I can relate. I try tho and love to learn.
I'm currently playing the original FFVII on my RG35XX-H wich is perfect for my needs. I can play for a few minutes leveling up and if I have things to do I just use the sleep mode feature and pick it up where I left hours ago.
Single dad here, I am actually contemplating selling my gaming laptop as I just don't use it anymore. I have my Quest 3, and Steam Deck. Honestly it's plenty. I am totally find with 45fps @90hz on an OLED that size as long as I have my glasses on. I never play any games with mouse and keyboard except older titles that run beautifully on steam deck in docked mode with zero issues.
Don’t forget if your gaming laptop is powerful enough you can stream those power hungry games from your laptop!
I love all the messages you're sending about gaming and fatherhood. I have a 2 yr old and a 3 week yr old. I sold my gaming PC bc I downsized my man cave for a nursery. I have a gaming laptop that I haven't looked at in 3 since my second baby was born. And now I'm debating between Steamdeck and Lenovo Legion Go.
I personally liked the Steam Decks ease of use but it is more limited in its libraries natively
This video got you a dad to subscribe.
I’ve been looking at getting a steam deck in a Couple of months and have been watching videos and yours have been great!
I never owned video games as a kid. My only gaming experiences were at friends' houses or on our potato family PC. Handheld gaming allowed me to start playing video games in my mid twenties with a DS Lite, then a 3DS, then a Switch, then eventually a Steam Deck and RG35XX Plus. Now I play games with my wife and kids as well.
I like your channel , i'm 24 ,even though im not a dad i understand what you mean about not staying up till 2am to play video games , having work the next day. My friends and i have pretty much all moved out of our parents houses , we dont really get to play a lot as a group but when we do we have a blast. I love playing games on my ROG Ally even though i have a nice pc , it's something about it that is a great experience.
I was in the same boat when my wife saw a steam deck her uncle got and told me I should get one I wasn’t really playing any games I enjoyed mainly quick and easy mobile games and stale Nintendo switch lite games. for me the steam deck is a great middle ground of portability and having a powerful enough console to play more games I’m interested in and haven’t played in years and I can still be present for my wife and kids not chained to the tv with my Xbox and not wading through the Nintendo eshop to find something interesting enough to play. great content by the way love the format of making coffee and talking about what interests you keep it up
Since I don't have a gaming PC, the Steam Deck has been simply amazing for me. I really need the portability. I also do love my Switch. The Steam Deck has allowed me to play some games that can't run on the Switch or aren't available on it. The power is just fine for me. It is a very simple device really but also offers quite a bit. I have NB shoes btw 😂. I mostly wear my Vans though. Congrats on 50K, keep it rolling brother!
hahah vans for LIFE
Really good video, as a Dad of 3,as my kids get older, I have less time for R&R. What with my father duties husband duties and work to provide for the family that I’m blessed with but there is only so much time in a day. So the pc portables (rog ally atm) they are allowing me to get my R&R at work on my breaks/lunches, or as I wait to pick up my son from school, or before I go to bed while laying on my bed 👏🏽. But these handhelds have revamped my passion for gaming, and I agree getting that R&R from my games makes me a better Dad/Husband and leader at work. Great video, I related to all your points, and thanks for putting a spotlight on Gamer dads 👍🏽. Walked away from your video feeling acknowledged and idk maybe even a sense of vindication.
I own all current consoles (XBox S, PS4, Switch) and I started with the C64 and PCs. Every time I come back to PC Gaming I realize how vastly superior PC Gaming is to ANY console ever made. They are fine but PC Gaming will always be better for so many levels beyond just graphics. I tend to use my Gaming Laptop and SwitchLite over anything else. I have not touched my PS4 in over a year and no desire to buy a PS5 ever. My XBox is a glorified cable box. LoL. My family plays Switch and SwitchLite more than anything else.
The steam deck is what I hoped
The switch should have been!
I am feeling that now
@@julienmelnickI love my deck. It’s basically limitless! I use mine all the time. From switch emulation to old school emulation or playing ff7 remake.
I have three little ones at home and i love my pc but it's in my room as i work from home and don't have an office. The steam deck is great for getting out of that room and enjoying the family and some game time. I find it also comes in handy if I'm doing some light treadmill time and I'm not trying to multi task and watch videos like i do at the PC. It's an invaluable option that doesn't make sitting down and playing a game feel like such a chore or obligation so i can enjoy it again. I don't have to justify going to my room to game.
Just found you today. Cool channel. Thanks for the vids. Subscribed
Awesome, thank you!

Love your Content, I’m a new Dad my son just turned 2. Gaming is my release from long days at work and after spending time with my son. I’ve had to sell my series X when times were tough and I’ve had my OG switch and it’s been my go to since I’ve became a father. I play at work on my down time and I play right when my son. Handheld has been clutch for me and I’ve been debating on getting a steam deck, a PC, or wait till a new switch. Idk if I can invest in a pc but same I give my son the TV when I’m home. Also I’m a chef and coffee is life your channel just reads me haha thanks brotha.
hahah I am so glad there are others out there like you making it happen for your family. I love the flexibility of handheld gaming. Especially with the pause functions. power on and get to gaming.
Oddly enough, I also became a dad in September of 2020. I’m a busy person, and after building a life of a bunch of hobbies. A kid made me go back and rethink how to incorporate some of my hobbies around being a dad. I have been teetering on buying a steam deck for some time now, but I think I just need to do it. I’m a giant Final Fantasy fan, but I don’t see myself being able to sit at a desk for hours on end. All signs point to the Steam Deck accommodating my needs in today’s world. Here’s hoping Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comes to PC one day.
It will and I will play it all over again with you!! Join the discord fellow father
I just bought my PS5 last year, and i have 4 years old son while having 8-5 full time job.
I rarely used my PS5 due to “work and responsibility balance”
My wife (gratefully) pregnant and expecting this year.
This video resonates my situation, and I’m subscribing now.
Thx for the great contents!
Looking forward to but SD (hopefully OLED) mid of this year.😂😂🎉🎉🎉
You will love it!
I am in my late 40, and I enjoy your content is like perfect to me .I love my steam deck for the same reason that you when my wife and daughter watch TV I can boot the steam deck and grind some levels on my jrpg games .
Where the Lind for your discord ?

I am here for the coffee and game talk 🔥☕️
You got a subscribe from me when you randomly started on about 80-20. Cheers
hahah thanks man
loved the vid. nothing to do with the topic, but you should set a manual focal length for the vid so the camera's autofocus doesn't spaz out when you move around.
On the New Balance subject, try the 574's. They're amazing.
I am you from the future. I have 2 kids nearly 10 years older than yours.
I promise you this: you will gain increasingly more time and sanity as your kids get older, lose the diapers, go to school, and become more independent. I personally don’t even remember a lot of TDE (The Diaper Era)-it’s like a distant blur from the past even though it wasn’t that long ago relatively speaking.
Second thing, man. I am a night person-I can’t even go to sleep before midnight if I tried. Waking up at 4am sounds exponentially crazier to me than going to bed at 2am.
hahah dude TDE is BRUUUUUUTAL
Im a night gamer dad, from 11pm to 2am, is a good teraphy for me 😊, I get all that.
Pc gaming dad here.
Always gamed on pc am 41 years old now
Become a dad gaming time took a hit.
With the steam Deck it let me play the games I want to play more.
When I get to play on my 4090 Desktop I get to pickup where I left of on my Steam deck but get all the eye candy.
Thats rad man. what a beast of a computer
@@julienmelnick if only I had the time to game on it.
Its funny you mention transitioning from a more traditional console space to a desk & monitor setup. I did the same and have 2 stupid nice 1080p panels that really don't see much benefit from the consoles currently but I much prefer them to my 65inch Q70 4K tv. My friends think I am crazy. Only time the Q70 gets use is if I am doing an in person playthrough session with friends.
I like my Steam Deck but the absence of physical games and having to rebuy most of my games will take time. If PlayStation goes all digital the only deciding factors that would remain before moving over to Steam would be PSN Trophies and the price of PS Plus. Though I'd like to continue gaming on the three platforms (PlayStation, Nintendo and PC) if at all possible.
Do you know about Humble Bundle? You can get a group of games at low cost.
The advantage of PC is I can play an old game like Master of Orion for an example on current PC including the Deck without worrying about the Big N suing someone. Big N don't like people playing their games on different hardware. They want to sell you the same old games again on their latest hardware.
Brother, I'm convinced. I've really been looking for an excuse to ditch consoles. I'm not a dad, but it's just more convenient in general. Side note, I'm absolutely loving these. Glad to see the channel's doing well. Cheers 🍻
The advantage of consoles is also their disadvantage , you have to buy their hardware. On the PC software and hardware are sold separately. This is why I'm able to play nearly a 30 year old PC game like Masters of Orion on my Steam Deck. If you want to play an older game on the current console you have to pay up again either buying the same game like Mario Kart 8 for the new hardware or pay an online service.
@smidlee7747 100% agree. I feel like it'll give me alot more freedom with what I want to play, and who I want to play with. I own all the consoles, but as long as the steamdeck can give me 60fps with a decent enough resolution, I'll be more than content using it as primary.
@@BeastrusKastrus Steam Deck will not give you 60fps with triple A titles. If that's what you are expecting you will be disappointed with the Deck. Ally has a little more powerful but runs on Windows which can be a pain.
30 fps is more ideal for newer demanding titles while you can get 60 fps with older games. Deck is a compromise between performance and battery life.
I will give you an example. The first Horizon Zero Dawn can run decent at 45 fps (sometimes drops to 40) on medium settings at 12 Tdp on the Oled Deck.
This will give me around 3 hours + of battery life.
(TDP is setting how many wattage the APU is using.)
@@smidlee7747 thabks for the clarification. I guess I'll wait a tad then. Any lower than 60 is definitely a deal breaker. I really appreciate the insights brother.
Best of both worlds console and handhelds
I was more interested what he was making , solid video ....consoles cool for remote play also
Easy and flexibility says the guy who makes coffee a 90 step process.
hahahaha. this was good.
Don’t judge the coffee process lol it’s remarkable.
@@jsepe9356 I'm not. Just poking fun. I brew coffee at least three times a day. But I do simple black rifle.
Coffee and video games all the way bro!!
Do gotta question I was thinking about it. Obviously the steamdeck can pretty much play everything that can be played on ps4/5 and Xbox ! But obviously with games getting more expansive and more graphics. What does that mean for the steam deck later on with new games? Unless a new steam deck comes out?
Have you tried streaming your PS5 to your SD? Or using Gamepass on there? You can do both pretty easily and they run really well. Final Fantasy 7... from anywhere....
The idea of PC gaming is the best but desktops are not. I realized this when I saw what Apple was able to do with M1. When the PC’s start competing with that from a form factor standpoint there will be no reason to have a desktop unless you truly just love customizing computers.
@7:40 F that guy. Do you bro we're here partly due to the content mostly for the vibes.
Also he can skip over the coffee part if desired, I appreciate it.
hahah people are so silly
do you still use the series s witht he attached screen? or did the steam deck totally replaced that? debating which one to get.
I think I answered my question little later on the video lolol. you sold the thing.
Have you tried game pass yet on the steam deck? Considering getting a steamdeck as I'm struggling to find the time to use the living room for my xbox so the switch is my go to atm
I have. Microsoft made it clear recently they will not make any effort to get game pass on Steam or run on Linux. ( It's easier to stream games)
I have Windows installed on a sd card to play on game pass.
There is some work to get Windows and drivers for the deck installed.
There is a way to boot both Steamos and Windows on a SSD dividing the memory in half.
Windows on a handheld isn't as easy to use as Steamos as well installing Windows on a sd card will eventually kill the card. I saw one claim you can expect to boot up Windows a few hundred times. Flash memory is not ideal for an OS so expect higher failure rate than a ssd.
I personally using a 512 GB card just for Gamepass and only have a few games on it at a time. Right now I'm finishing up Persona 3 with the deck on Gamepass.
Also note with Gamepass you must log in online , sometimes start a game in order to play it offline. When I take it to work I have to put it to sleep. Windows is sometimes bad for waking up from sleep mode though.
If you want only to play on Gamepass the Windows handhelds would be more ideal for you like the Ally.
I feel you bro

What case are you using on your steam deck?
Agreed, same here
I am the last of my friends that game. It has become a very lonely hobby for me in the last few years.
It's ok. a lot of us are that person.
what do you play on your steam deck?? also I a dad of 3 and love your videos, I feel the same way.
💥
I'm not a Dad, & I love coffee and video games
2/3 is good enough for me
Steam deck or ROG ally? Am trying to decide, I have a ps5 which as a dad never gets to switch on until late.😂🎉
Also steam sales are insane
They really are
Yooo Redding shout out! Where I’m watching now.
heck yea!!
I think I will be waiting on Steam Deck 2 or Switch 2 before I buy into the handheld market...
Also I am also unsure on VR as I have a Vive (got it cheap) and its put me off VR altogether, so I won't be buying Meta VR. VR gaming just feels half baked...didn't even think much of Half Life Alyx. I want to sit down for VR with a gamepad, walking seems a great idea right up until you kick a wall in your slippers.
I am so old now I PC game from my sofa, because chairs just suck now.
Totally valid. I can't get into VR personally. Especially as someone who HAS to be aware of my surroundings
@@julienmelnick I am always paranoid I will dropkick my cat while VR gaming.
@@julienmelnick What do you think about ar glasses? Some people connect them to a steam deck and use them as a monitor. Although the resolution of the current generation is still too low. 1080p

I’m good with talking coffee. If you could just edit the slurping from some of your videos, I’d appreciate it. I’m absolutely good with you wanting to add oxygen to enhance the flavor.. I get it… it’s just that some people can’t handle that sound. Appreciate your videos, though!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Get yourself a gaming laptop and you’ll have all the portability with even more power. I can just see you six months from now making a video saying , “dude gaming laptops are awesome.

Dudes that make coffee their personality are in the same camp as the dudes that make craft beer their personality. Weird vibes brother. Just drink the bean water and make it with a 10 dollar coffee machine. I promise everyone here it’s essentially the same.
dudes that care about how other dudes drink beverages are weird. Just let people like things I promise your life will be essentially the same
Vaguely disagree with one part of that statement: if you look at the Steam demographics for hardware, you will see almost everyone falls right around the capabilities of the 3060 card. Way less than anything close to top of the line, and enough that my 2080 is more than sufficient for most games, 6 years later.
Tech news has given us the impression that there is way more adoption of the newest and greatest tech, than there actually is. Even among us that could have bought new cards or computer builds, the deck is far more exciting to me, than a top of the line machine.
Other than that one point, maaaaaaaaan, does that commenter have the right of it. And the fact that your views so closely match my own (and that you are talking about a topic I am currently fixated on) is exactly how you came onto my radar
