Sazerac Rye Whiskey Review | Budget Buffalo Trace Worth Hunting?

- I sit down to review a pour of Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey. This budget bottle from Buffalo Trace Distillery can often be hard to find and marked up more than the $30 MSRP. Along with Buffalo Trace Bourbon and Weller Special Reserve, it's one of the more attainable lineups from the distillery, but how good is it? Should you be hunting it? Or is this bottle best used in the famous Sazerac Cocktail and left on shelves?

Local Sam’s 20.00 no limit, always there on the shelf. Buffalo Trace 22.00 all day, Old Forester 1920 46.00 all day!
Sazerac is $30 a bottle and $60 a handle all day every day in AZ and CA. Always available. Buffalo Trace is $25 a bottle and $50 a handle. Always available. Weller SR is generally unavailable in AZ Forget about finding any of the nicer Wellers in AZ.
Saw one marked up to $150 😂 I asked if it was marked wrong the guy said no! Told him he was crazy

Got for 40 bucks in TN. It’s a lot more challenging to find here so it was worth a snag. Decent but there is better budget ryes out there. Thanks for the vids!
I agree with this take. Saz is a hard buy when you can have Rittenhouse and WT 101 Rye for less or Russell's 6yr Rye and Pikesville for just a bit more.
Agreed with both of you that there are better budget ryes out there. This is still very solid though, and of course it's hard not to snag it when you do see it. Cheers!
It is a great Rye for the price. 💸 I am lucky that we have plenty here in Texas. So one of the few things I don't have to worry about a mark up. Makes a good Old-Fashioned. thanks for reviewing Cheers.

Those are always on the shelf at my local Wal-Mart for around 24 bucks. Might pick one up and check it out.

I’ve never seen it as high as $30. I just picked up a bottle for $23, or because I love it, or am a big rye fan, but for that price, I like to keep it in stock.

This isn’t hard to find actually - I have no idea why anyone says it isn’t. And it’s fantastic for the price. My everyday drinker.

Shows up once a month in PA. I keep a bottle for the cocktail, but I prefer KC rye as my go to rye

Had a glass in New Orleans last year it was okay but like all BT it’s not worth looking for it honestly. There are many rye’s that are significantly better than this bottle. I will say it’s pretty cheap.

Its priced right at $20 a bottle, price accurately indicates quality for this one and why its not running $50-100 like the good ryes. Super overrated and not worth hunting, wont purchase again.
I consider it a solid bottom shelf rye. Nothing special but solid. Definitely gets overrated at times. Cheers!

Seen 750ml bottles for $60 in Fl. At multiple small shops.
Whoa! $60 is one of the higher numbers I've heard for this bottle. A shame. It's great for $30 maybe $40 but that's as high as I'd go I think. Cheers!

In Brazil I saw for 100 bucks but here everything is high prive because the high import tax

This is a pass for any price above MSRP, way too many better choices out there. The hype train for this a year or two ago was ridiculous.
Yeah, it's had periods of real hype. It's solid, but nothing special. MSRP is fair for sure. Just gets a bit crazy when people treat all Buffalo Trace products like there's nothing else out there that's good. Cheers!
