    I used to work at a company that was outsourced to do QA for League of Legends. I wasn't on the team but sat near them. The team exclusively recruited league players, I think silver of higher ranked only, and put them on these private servers exclusive for testing. They were yelling at each other into headsets at work for not playing perfectly in these testing servers that exist to find and report bugs. They would also yell at each other for trying to reproduce bugs, the job I will remind everyone that sees this they were being paid to do, instead of playing optimally. The leads of the non-League teams at the company regularly had to go to the leads of the league teams to get them to remind their teams that this is supposed to be a professional environment and that other people are either having phone calls or just trying to work in peace. Whatever stereotypes you think of league players they are absolutely true. I've never seen such a toxic community in all my 35 years gaming

      A friend of mine told me he wanted to get me into League. Somehow he decided the way to do that was to just invite me and go into a public game. So take all that toxicity and aim it at somehow who literally had never played before and had no idea what they were doing. I did not have fun. I never touched it again.

      Whilst yeah, there are a lot of toxic players, I mean a LOT. Like damn. The true amount is also grossly over exaggerated by the rest of people who don't play.
      If I go home and play 10 games right now, 1 will be toxic because of one player, 7 will be played without a word from anyone, bar maybe people saying GG, 1 will have a troll being a dickhead, 1 will be a positive experience.
      That's my personal take, but by the same token it all depends on how you play the game as well.

    • @bluwzrdphone
      @bluwzrdphone 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I keep getting people wanting me to play, quit playing shortly after I give in, then quit myself because while not playing the way the people I would queue up with as a solo wound get mad I wouldn't abandon the lane I was successfully holding alone for 5+ minutes to run to a fight on the other side of the map that while outnumbering our opponents they were still losing the fight...
      Toxic is an understatement...

Don't get me wrong - we DO game together, but in separate rooms, talking via Discord. He can't wrap his head around that. I do admit it's not the same, though... it's kind of fun to start yelling and shoving to try to knock each other off course.

      Me2 ending it's worst than me3 it had to be changed in me3 because if you play as a paragon Cerberus don't do anything to you after destroying the collectors and they even still pay you for missions and the crew it's ok with you even though you betrayed the boss, me3 retcon all that saying that Cerberus try to capture you and joker with the help of Ed save you.

    What Jules said about Destiny 2 being all effed up for new players is spot on. I wanted to get into it but by the time I did it's story had already been carved up, shifted around, and chunks of it flat out removed, and I had zero idea WTF was going on or what I should be doing. Major turnoff.

    Mass Effect 3 is a good game - the ending isn't that big of a deal. The overall game is fantastic and you should play it. It's funny, it has a ton of heart, and has lots of great moments. Everyone wanted more of the ending - we get it - but that shouldn't be enough to not play it.
    As for FFXV - it's a good game - stop comparing it to FF7. Nothing can top that game. It tells a good story, it's incredibly entertaining, and considering it's production issues, the final edition is fantastic. Play it.

      Honestly, I don't know that there are many studios who could have done the end of ME3 any better. The story had become so massive and encompassing, they kind of wrote themselves into a corner. What could possibly bring a satisfying end to a war against an intergalactic race of godlike robots while still involving the wide variety of choices made by the player?

      And saying ME2 was a perfect place to leave off is total bullshit. It was a solid second act, but it still left everything set up in the first game unconcluded. I love The Empire Strikes Back, but if that was the end of Star Wars I'd have been pissed.

I also take great issue with suggesting leaving a game series with a cliffhanger is better than an actual ending, because the ending of Mass Effect 2 is no matter what, a cliffhanger. Was the ending for Mass Effect 3 controversial? Yes. Was it at least better than a cliffhanger? Also yes.

    When the disasters of 2020 started, a friend of mine moved in with me during the last semester of college. He introduced me to League of Legends during this time, and it was fun playing alongside him (even though I barely knew what I was doing). A few months after he left, I logged in again to try and pick it up again. I could not get a hang of the controls again because I was constantly getting killed before I could reach any minions. I was accused of throwing and/or feeding the whole match. I have never gone back to play since…

    When I saw Dragon's Dogma and the mainline Pokemon games on this list, I kind of flinched since I actually still play and love those games to death. I do agree though that there should be some innovation in the Pokemon mainline series. Some world building, though this is just my opinion, would be really nice... maybe building cities and building your league from scratch or something... as for Dragon's Dogma: yeah it didn't age well but it is still fun despite it's flaws.

    • @noel737
      @noel737 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Concerning Pokémon, I agree with hours overall assessment but I do think it would have more persuasive if had compared it to the non-mainline games. Like, rather than just “it’s just more of the same fun thing you enjoy,” he could’ve pointed to how most spin-offs have consistently been well received. They haven’t always been big sellers, but usually develop a cult following none the less. Despite this, few have received consistent sequels and fewer have had their mechanics incorporated back into the main series.
      I will say, I haven’t played a newer Pokémon game. I *almost* tried shield. But seeing my wife play it-who did enjoy it-was agonizing. Even into the end game, it seemed like every interaction led into five-minute not-cutscene cutscenes or tutorials. Like, the old man at the beginning of the game boy games were annoying but it was one and done. Shield could not just let you start playing until every mechanic and story beat was set up-I’m gonna stop now, I’m rambling.

    As far as GTA online, I stopped playing on public servers not because of hostile players, but because of players literally hacking the game world. You would be driving around, and suddenly someone on foot is somehow glitching behind your vehicle, firing an automatic rocket launcher at you. Kill reports would announce that another player was killed by you, yet you were no where near by. Random game assets would be inserted into the world. Players would start fights with everyone else on the server, and would then be invincible to even tank fire.
    Yeah, it's annoying trying to do a mission where you smuggle drugs and other players could destroy or steal them. But it's not as bad as knowing that some of the other players can rewrite the rules on the fly, and you have no recourse. To my knowledge, Rockstar has never fixed this; in fact, I think it's why they made business/supply missions that take place in the regular game world can be done in private sessions. They apparently don't know how to fix the problem, or don't care.

      Runescape Classic, now dead. Runescape 2, after it was turned into RS3 it was brought back by an overwhelming desire voiced by the fans. James put out a poll to find out how many people wanted RS2 back and got nearly 500,000 votes.
      Old School Runescape is updated almost entirely through players votes. If there's not at least 75% wanting something the devs offer, it doesn't get added to the game. I don't play anymore but I still think this is the greatest thing in gaming and love OSRS.

    I have to say, both Dragon's Dogma and Mass Effect 3 are fully worth playing today. Dragon's Dogma's fast travel and single-save system are fundamental to it's gameplay, and the quest system is meant to be resolved utilising the environment and things people say, rather than obvious UI 'quest markers' - it's not obtuse, it's just in the world rather than in the menus. And people need to play ME3 if only to know the terror of seeing a Banshee on the field....

    Couldn't of explained Destiny 2 any better Jules.
    Once one of my favorite games ever ( 41, been gaming since the NES/Genesis days ) and trying to come back to it after almost a 2 year break was jarring and absolutely heartbreaking. It's actually impressive the sheer amount of incompetence and ignorance Bungie has accomplished with this one.
    Really sucks as my son is now old enough to play and I've been waiting and wanting so much to experience it with him, the campaign really was awesome at one point. Now most of the best parts of the story are outright gone, the experience is gone, it all makes zero sense for a new player and is about as soul less as an experience as you can have in gaming. Compared to Destiny 2 in 2020/21 of course. Just got him the Master Chief Collection instead ( $10 sale on Steam ). While me and my friends all loved and rearranged entire houses, apartments and lives just to play it together, I ended up liking Destiny 2 more, for the story/campaign and lore....until logging in a few months ago, seeing what state it is now became one of my worst experiences in gaming, ever.
    Only thing that can top it is Vic Ireland and Working Designs promising Lunar 3, even stating it was in development more than once, hell it was mentioned in Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Sega CD manual....for it all to be a lie and 25 years later we STILL don't have a part 3 to the greatest JRPG Series of all time. I'm aware Game Arts made Lunar but Vic made the promises. If you're still reading this and love JRPGs, do yourself a favor, get a Sega CD emulator and play Lunar 1 & 2 back to back. Not the kiddie, watered down, cringy PS Complete versions either, just the OG's.
    Come back and comment if you are a Lunar fan or took my advice, played and now love it too.

    Pokemon has something that majority of games don't get close to. That's nearly infinite replay ability. No two play throughs will be the same you have so much variety of choice and with gen 9 you can even tackle the challenges in whatever order you'd like.
    Gamefreak has built enough of something I'd like to call brand equity with pokemon. We know what we're getting with pokemon. If they decide to shake up the formula majorly or shift the tone scale or scope of the projects then the risk isn't worth the reward. As you said they still guarantee to have 2 of the top 10 best selling games any year they release. From a business standpoint there is no upside at all. You can't please everyone after all

    I think everyone knows about the ending of the Mass Effect Trilogy now. If you are going in with the knowledge that the ending is dissatisfying; and again at this point it may as well have a giant sticker on the front stating as much, everyone should play the 3rd game for the story anyway. It’s brilliant and quite beautiful. I am quite sad about how it ended but it is so worth playing. Skipping it entirely due to just the ending is a mistake.

    Hard disagree on Mass Effect 3.If you've put in the time and effort to get through the first two games, you owe it to yourself to finish the trilogy. I never had a problem with the way it ended, as lackluster as it was, but there was DLC that served to give a better final send off for the series and it is included on the Legendary Edition. Plus some of the character interactions and relationships in ME3 are among the best in the business.

It's a well-crafted game and most people I know who had very high opinions of it had never played other MGS games. I always say it's a really good game, but a pretty terrible MGS game, and that's why non-fans enjoy it more.

    I find competitive games a huge turn off. Wish devs/pubs would include a casually balanced mode that dials back things like timing windows, game speed, and whatever other parameters that give these games insane and (unappealing to me) skill ceilings. This would provide a great entry point for new players who want to get good and separate those that just are there to have fun and don’t give too much of af about winning. I don’t want to game using only my lizard brain impulsivity any longer, so I’m not buying most of these games.
