- Quinine, one of the first effective malaria treatments and a common ingredient in tonic water, can boost our natural GLP-1 and decrease hunger and appetite.

My grandmother used to take it for leg cramps. I was so young, if memory serves me right it was tonic water.
yup I relied on it as a teen - night cramps from growing pains
I love tonic water. My Dad drank it with orange juice before meals. Will give that a try.
@@traviswilliamsonesq.460 Be careful with too much sugar.
@@traviswilliamsonesq.460 Same here, my sister and I grew up drinking tonic water. Fortunately it is before they put high fructose corn syrup and everything. Besides ginger ale is the only soda my parents would buy. Love the stuff to this day!
Learned the word for my eating habits....Hedonic eating... I like to eat b/c it tastes good, not b/c I'm hungry... Uff I hate when I do that...
Haha, I had the same response! Food is delicious. That it keeps me alive is a bonus! 😂
Absolutely Fascinating
I love this channel!
Thanks doc. This is very interesting. I shall have to listen to it again in the morning, to properly take it in 😁
I've never in my 60 years on this planet heard 'quinine' pronounced that way! It's always been kwin-een. Oh, well, I know what you mean, so no harm done 😁
@@weirdunclebob I totally agree.
So is the gin optional then?
@@Joseph1NJ 😂
Cool. I love tonic water. I'd be happier with completely unsweetened but I drink the diet for now.
Me too 🙂
Fevertree makes a light tonic. Several flavors. It's seriously delicious
@@triciaakins8082 I'll have to get some, thanks!
Thanks
Thank you!
My dear Dad would often drink the Schweppes brand of tonic water. I remember trying it as a kid. Shudder. 🙂 I imagine it is more sweet now.
Good evening, is there convincing evidence of the benefits of red light therapy? Thanks and good work.
Does the sodium in tonic water impact bp or heart disease?
My mom drinks this for her leg cramps... If u shine a light under it in the dark it glows
Anyone have tonic water recommendations?!
@@SamanthaShelley FeverTree is the best, imo
@@ihatecrowdsurfers never heard of that. What country are you in?
It is sold in my grocery store in the U.S. It is rather expensive. @@janicetaylor3721
@@ihatecrowdsurfersWay too expensive though.
There's a Q brand that comes in small cans in a 4 pack. I've bought it at CVS! They also make a great ginger ale without all the bad ingredients!
Who knew, I'm definitely going on the hunt for a sugar free version of tonic water.
I drink sugar free but unfortunately the sweetenrs are really bad for you 🙄
Interesting
I wonder now about the product “Swedish Bitters”.
Same here. I immediately went straight to all of the different types of bitters and wondered the same thing.
@@ErisTyler Bavarian bitters seems to be a lot less expensive than Swedish bitters, many similar ingredients, but for now, I got a box of organic dandelion tea, the cheapest and most pleasant option of all.
Where is the video on the downside of quinine, please? I can't find it on Dr Greger's website.
@@hypnosisforhappiness this one says it came out 3hrs ago, so it's probably just not out yet. I did the same thing, immediately started looking for the next one
I shared it earlier with my Mrs?

Might bitter cocoa work? Any evidence in that? Coffe? ARUGULA?! I'm starting to be convinced that arugula is about the healthiest thing you can eat
Everything with bitter taste suppresses hunger : grapefruits, beer, tonic water, you name it…
@@bubblybull luckily we have healthier options than beer
@@sweetshoezBeer is a perfectly fine option. Just by the alcohol-free. Also there are other hops drinks that are made alcohol free.
I love tonic water, but it does a number on my bladder.
I'm not a fan of super short videos. How about grouping a few of these into one video?
Do you see how long he's been talking about GLP-1? Go back to the beginning of the month. It's exhausting! Super short is fine with me. I've had to skip several of these; I'm ready for a new topic. NEXT!!
Gin and Tonic , please.
If you like tonic water then check the ingredients. It can have lots of added sugar and preservatives 🤢
If there's a sugar free version then we're all back in business.
@@jodrew1845 Did you guys even watch the video? Both points were covered.
@jodrew1845 there is, at least in Canada via Sobey's.

Interesting
I really dislike the "give you half of a piece of information per video" format. I don't see anyone else doing this and it's very frustrating.
Lots of channels do it probably because their metrics told them shorter videos hold people's attention and are more popular so they split longer articles into multiple episodes. Hope this helps. 😊
Agreed. It would make sense if he was making money, but for a non-profit educational channel it’s annoying and unnecessary.
Here's a pro tip, he gives you all the peer-reviewed articles in the video. Just look them up and read the actual contents yourself.
@@ErisTylerwatch the new video though, this one was a really irresponsible one to post first. Don 't drink a lot of tonic water 😅
The question is: Where can I get real tonic what is not the one with the aroma (flavor) only.
Ham sandwiches with the crusts removed ofcourse 😅
Tonic water has too much sugar
There's diet (which comes with its own set of problems). Fever Tree has less sugar.
I would have expected an intelligent man like Dr Greger to know when to use either the word 'less' or 'fewer'. I guess I have overestimated him.
I share your displeasure! However, languages change over time, and the use of less in place of fewer seems to be one of those changes that we'll just have to accept. Doesn't stop me shouting "fewer" at the screen, though...
Tell me he doesn't say "exasperate" (not a real word) rather than exacerbate.
@DK-cp2en Time stamp, please.
Do you have outcome data from RCTs in humans showing same effect on sustained weightloss from boosting endogenous GLP-1 as we see with GLP-1RA medications?
Yikes. You will not get me to drink tonic water. Not even with gin in it. Phew.
Lol tonic water has as much sugar as cola. Coffee is a good appetite suppressant, and drink lots of water in general. Soda water is much better.
Lmfao this Doctor is a vegan clown
Ignore him
Why?
Suppressing hunger is for losers - why do it? If you're trying to lose weight just eat normally and it'll work. If you need a boost, ride your bike a bit more. It's working for me.
Congratulations, your method works for you. Here’s a cookie. News flash: weight loss works differently for everyone. Suppressing hunger is very important for people who eat too much. Exercise is only one component. What you eat or don’t eat is way more impactful for losing weight.
what's your definition of normal foods you're eating?
Wait until you are a 57 year old woman with hypothyroidism and report back to us.
@ It works differently for different species maybe. I'm human
