  • Hey everyone in this video we finish the bottom of the Catlins, with an epic swim with Dolphins, and check out the last of the Catlins. We thought we'd spend about 10 min at the Petrified forest, but there was actually a lot to see and explore here which we really enjoyed.
Slope point. Not a lot here, but hey it's the bottom of Mainland New Zealand which is cool to tick off the list.

I think Jade is still buzzing about swimming with the Dolphins, I think her smile at the end of it showed how much she enjoyed it. We sure do live in a special part of the world, far from everything....

65 years ago when I first visited Curio Bay there was a lot more evidence of the petrified trees but sadly over time people broke of bits of rock as souvenirs. Thankfully now the area is protected.

it might be officially protected, but people are free to wonder over the whole site, poking, proding and picking around.

Hey Shannon, yea there is a lot to do in the Area... Once we returned to the Caravan we realized the Catlins were done, and we all crashed a bit I think, was a very busy couple of weeks exploring the area, diving, and walking...

Looks like you did really well covering a good chunk of the main spots in the area - good work! I remember being in the living forest on a really hot day and it was good to be in the shade. I specifically remember the gorgeous birdsong and the scent of manuka; I lay on the ground, looking up at the trees, and meditated for a wee while. I look forward to your next videos; I haven't done the chunk between the Catlins and Te Anau, and so am super keen to see what's there. Hope the good weather continues down there; Kāpiti just skipped Autumn I think - Bbrrrrrrr!!!

Hey there... Yea enjoyed the whole area through the Catlins. was great to get in the water with the Dolphins, pretty special... The area between Invercargill and Te Anau, is more remote it feels than the Catlins... We had bad weather, but I'm working on that video now... We got lots of snow down here earlier this week, I was up the Top of Mt Luxmore doing the Keplar, Yikes...

@@leopardsgowild Wow, the Kepler in the snow - good work! Great to read you did a 20k run - decent running that mate! I see you were sporting your Blue Lake Challenge jacket in the latest video; I'm doing it again this year, and have roped a bunch of mates in too. I'm going to have a crack at the run the forest, near Waikanae in 4 weeks; signed up for the half marathon so it'll be a decent challenge for me! 😕

Incredible with the dolphins in close! Great that they came in close on their own terms, and Toby eventually enjoyed them.
Did you figure out what they were eating in the sand?
We never saw the dolphins down there. Those rock trees are impressive. Some more great weather for the far south.

Yea it was pretty impressive I'm used to those types of things being a bit of a let down. I have no idea what they were doing in the sand it looked weird lol... Yea the weather is hit and miss aye... which is expected, nothing too outrageous.

Bit late now, but there's some local guidelines about getting in the water 50m away from dolphin groups. Did you see these signs? Unfortunately a lot of people don't follow the rules and can spook the dolphins

@@leopardsgowild awesome, that's the way! Interesting you say that.. the population that uses Porpoise Bay is small and genetically distinct. The females often bring their calves into the bay, and so people targeting the dolphins could potentially stress them out at times
