Stunning native forests, deserted sandy beaches, cascading waterfalls, huge caves, loads of wildlife, and even the chance to swim with Dolphins. It should be on everyone's bucket list

I'm so glad you got some blue sky weather in the Catlins. Chelsea was brave swimming in that cold water. When I swam in the south at Monkey Bay it was a run in and run out swim (early December) but the wind was off putting in the Catlins so I just enjoyed the glorious beaches. I've developed an unexpected interest in lighthouses while traveling round our wonderful country and now 'collect' them. Great video, thanks.
Haha yeh I really like the lighthouse walks too! Would be neat to tick them all off 😁 yeh that water was freezing! We went to Monkey Island after the Catlins and it was pretty cold… well we thought it was but there were plenty of people in the water.
My old stomping ground! I met my hubby in Telford Polytechnic in Balclutha and he lived at Kaka point. His relatives go to papatowai in the catkins for holidays. There was a lot you showed I had no idea about have definitely put in our book about visiting! Thanks. Great videos

There have been a few shark attacks at Curio Bay, the last in 2017- Sevengill Sharks, luckily no Great Whites. Such a wild untouched landscape you captured.
It was cold aye, we didn't want to give up the summer warmth in January so we didn'tgo then, the temperatures then was only 15° also. Hopefully Easter time for us. Another awesome video👍Thanks

We saw a few swimming out there and a couple of surfers! The kids play in the water in their wetsuits haha
did you film this in February or simply upload then? the reason I ask is that we're hoping to be there in May, and it occurs to me that if you were freezing in February.....

Just checked some old emails and we were there end of January! The last week of Jan in 2022… all depends on the wind, I think that’s what made it cold. It was work enough to swim and Chelsea swam with dolphins down in Curio bay one morning 👍
Shame the purakanui falls weren’t at their best for you.
Yeh I’ve seen photos of them pumping and the look incredible! We will just have to go back 😉
Curio bay is the End of the Catlins any south of that is Southland not Otago...
