You're talking about platys how you love them. Easy to care for and breed. Yet, you didn't show us your set up of them. Instead you're sitting in front of a goldfish tank. Why? I'm not impressed with your video, sorry.
Hi Cory, This is very useful information. I have palty but some palties are laying on the bottom of the tank. And after some days they died. Can u help me in this.
I’m a recent hobbyist and I had a blast with platys in my well planted 45 gallon community tank. It was great waiting for the birth, watching them hide out in the plants and survive and dart out to feed. Conditions where perfect. They inundated the tank so much, I fired up a 10 gallon, collected and pulled them out when I could catch them, and donated them to my LFS. It was really satisfying.
I had upgraded my fish tank and I had emptied out most of the water and substrate out of the tank and put it aside for like 2-3 months, and when I finally got around to get everything out, I had found a platy fry that was super small but still alive. I caught him and acclimated him into my current tank and 3 months afterwards he's still small but growing and thriving now. So they are very hardy.
I kept platies once, they didn’t even breed but they’re still one of my favorite fish of all time. Keep them, it’s one of the best fish ever for a starting hobbyist. I forgot about them, probably gonna get some soon because of this video
Bentley Angeldekao they didn’t Breed? Mine where breeding all the time. But the little ones are very small and hard to see. It’s also possible that they ate the little babies. So I suggest you put a plant in ur aquarium so they can hide. The best plant for this is hornworth or/and javamoss
im in the same boat, i started with 4 and wanted a male and 3 females, i ended up with all males. 2 of them passed and i replaced them and made sure they were both females. its been almost a year and the females look bigger now but no fry at all. one of my females is a sunburst and has black markings on the body but the best feature she has is a french chef moustache!
I was just yelling at my Green Lantern Platys (which I see in this video) for thinking the nerite snail is an O-nip tab when I got the notification. They keep pecking at the poor snailie as if it changed into food since the previous second they tried. Dorks. I love my platys. I have 3 varieties in two tanks and every new batch of babies gets me excited as does each milestone the babies reach. The parents don't try to eat them.
im pretty new to the aquarium hobby and i gotta say thank you for putting out so much awesome content to watch + learn from! theres not enough fish youtubers out there
I just found out like 3 hours ago that my platys has baby’s, sadly there was only 3 left but, I barely had any plants in my 20 gallon guppy/platy tank, good thing I didn’t get a betta today because my 5 gallon tank was fully established after a 2 month cycling process, so I put the fry in the 5 gallon betta tank
I have a platy tank and I haven't bought a new fish in years. On like generation 5 or 6 maybe? Who knows. Super fun to see the blended colors in the fry. Kids love it.
I now have 5 tanks and my first tank is still currently set up as a platy breeding tank. I have probably 25 or more platys of all ages going where I started off with only 5 or 6. It's really cool because they also throw some cool gene mutations sometimes, where for example I got a calico neon blue platy with a orange dorsal fin. Definitely recommend for a fun and easy tank. I still really enjoy mine over a year later.
Platies are the first fish I’ve ever bred and I did it at 13 in a Way overstocked 10 gal community with two gouramis and a betta and a bunch of other fish. I bought one from a petsmart (keep in mind this was 7 years ago and before I got more educated on fishkeeping) and a month later there were 4 teeny babies swimming around. Every month 4 more appeared and it was the most fun thing ever. Eventually big mama died but the babies started breeding and I had a huge colony, and thanks to that 1 Platy that started it I have grown and learned about how amazing the fish keeping hobby really is and I’ve been jonesing to start breeding fish again ever since
Awesome video. I like your simple but informative style. I have a 40 gal platy tank and have had a ton of success. Beautiful easy to care for fish. Keep up the great work!
I recently created a water lily pond where i added a school of platies and loving them every bit. I also have one guppy fry from a previous lot and they all co-habitate and they are all so cute!
LOVE MY PLATYS, the male hawaiian Tuxedo and female micky mouse have made us lots of healthy babies! So grateful my LFS suggested these to start us off
Not only are they beautiful and cool in their own right, platies are some of the best feeder fish you can buy because they don't contain thiaminase like rosy red minnows and goldfish do, which means they won't give your predators a vitamin B1 deficiency like goldfish and rosy reds can. I always wanted to start a pretty livebearer project but felt so awful about culling them that I couldn't do it. Feeding the culls to my frogs means they won't go to waste... which means I finally feel good about selectively breeding fish. Thank you Cory and crew for all your help and education.
I kept the same line of mean blue guppies for years. So I put them in my predator tank and went to my LFS to get a new line. Change things up. They were OUT and recommended I try platies. I got a handful and my goodness I absolutely love them. I have mostly hi fin females. They are almost as interactive as bettas. Lots of personality and so darn pretty. I'm so happy with them.
As alway a fantastic video. Informative, interesting and so so enjoyable. Thnx so so much. Looking forward to your next ones in 2020. All the very best to you and yours for the New Year.
I love platys too and have a planted tank of blue Mickey Mouse girls and boys. The colour is amazing with the neon tetra. Defiantly one of my favourite fish. Thank you for all the hard work you put into creating these videos you have helped me so much with my fishkeeping and finding out about species before I add to my collection. Happy New year and thank you!!
Thanks for another great learning tool.Sorry I won’t get to meet you at Aquatic Experience next year talking with you last year was the highlight of Aquatic Experience for me.
ive had my platies for almost a year and they finally gave birth! i have 3 baby platies so far. they might have had more before but were eaten but these 3 ive seen for the first time!!!

Platies are one of my favorite fish, but they are very prolific. They can out breed the largest tank if you aren't careful and only eat their young if they are very hungry. I've noticed some people posting they hadn't been able to keep them. Don't feel bad, unfortunately a lot of the time fish are ill when you get them and they aren't very good at communicating what is wrong. I try to keep some Gouramis or Angelfish with them, with plants for the fry to hide in, or even a section of the tank that is netted off so only the little fish can get in. That's more of an option with a fairly large tank. Still they are fun, active colorful and not shy. Thanks for what you do Corey!
I have had Platys for maybe six months now, started with just 5, but added another 15 over time and I have two young ones, the first time I saw I had a baby I was over the moon, I have an 80 gallon tank with live plants and plenty of cover so loads of room for them, hoping for more baby fish in the coming months, I have had several tropical types over the years, these have been the easiest to look after.
One of my favorites is the blue mickey mouse platy. I ran across one of your old videos on feeding Tums to your snails for calcium...I was afraid to try it, but I know you wouldn't give us bad info, so broke 1 into pieces and gave them 1 of them. They really like it. Thanks Cory 4 all the info you share with us! 👍🍄😎

I would use the drip method to acclimate the fish. Float the bag for 15 minutes to get the same temperature. Place the fish into the bucket so that the fish have just enough water in the bucket so they can swim. Then using an air line and an air line valve have a slow but steady stream of water. Every ten minutes take out water so that the level goes back to the original height, so the fish has just enough water to swim. I would do this for at least 50 minutes. More time is better. I would put a lid over the container and keep the lights off in the room as it will keep the fish calm. When I worked at a fish store that is how all fish were acclimated. If possible put a tablespoon of non iodized salt in the tank for every five gallons of water as the platty’s will appreciate it. I would make that decision based on what other fish are in the tank and if it is planted. I hope this was helpful. By the way, completely agree on the condition of platty’s in most stores.
I finally found an online store that has highfin sunset variatus platies...i would have already ordered them but my aquarium stand doesnt come in till later today...very excited

@@alyssamasserant4857 I notice that a lot with platies and mollies. Sometimes it that is just their natural way of swimming. But if it is too consistent or crazy there may be a reflection of themselves in the tank and they are following it. Try using plants or other objects to deflect their reflection. Otherwise, it's not to worry about. That's my experience but you could ask others their thoughts. I'm not an expert.
1:17 I agree, tank born babies tend to be more healthy and robust because the weaker ones get picked off by the adults. A self form of natural selection.
Hello Mr. Cory from Georgia! Love you videos they have really refreshed me and in formed me. Have a female Mickey Mouse platy that is so aggressive towards her partner and other platy in tanks. What do I do?
Love your videos, you have gift of teaching. I wish my local pet stores would take fish. A visiting 3 year old nephew dumped an entire canister of flake food in our 10 gallon tank, and NO pet store would take our 7 fish or even 4 Narite snails (for free)?!?
I will admit, I bought a bunch of these as “feeder fish” for about $1/dozen to cycle my first tank. They survived and I love them! Only ones I haven’t gotten rid of
Ooooo platies my first fish to reproduce for me. I was a kid and I only had 2. I was lucky to get one boy and one girl. They were the orange ones with little black mustaches 😂

i have one orange platy and i just git two platy but they look diffrent from my other one bubbles
Platys are pretty close to the perfect fish, I love them.
Yep agreed!
Only problem is they breed like crazy.
Endlers are just as easy, but smaller and more striking colours. Though they also breed like crazy

Happy New Year Corey to you and all your subscribers.
I will admit, I bought a bunch of these as “feeder fish” for about $1/dozen to cycle my first tank. They survived and I love them! Only ones I haven’t gotten rid of
I got some Mickey Mouse Platys because I liked the way they looked, but after a couple days.... I LOVE them. Active fish with personality 😊
Like the beard Cory! Thanks for another helpful video.
Cory please do more fish unboxings, I loved your beta unboxing

Does your pond ever freeze?

I'm adding platy fish to my frog tank to provide enrichment :)
Just in time for my new sunset variatus’! Good timing and good video my friend👍🏻
I love platy babies, we only managed to save 10 from the community tank. So far my favorite kind of fish babies. Can't wait to set up my fish room 😍
I love my platties too! They are awesome fish!🧡💛😊
Awesome guide to a fab fish
All I have ever owned is 1 nerite snail and 1 betta and I watch more of this channel than all of my other forms of entertainment combined
Ooooo platies my first fish to reproduce for me. I was a kid and I only had 2. I was lucky to get one boy and one girl. They were the orange ones with little black mustaches 😂
Think they're known as wagtails, they are great
My go to fish 🐟❤
Thank you for sharing this video 👍⭐😅
