    The strong deployment brought by the single-action mechanism looks to be really satisfying. On inconvenience: It's not everybody's EDC, but I guess they're assuming that if you do need this knife, you're going to have to clean biohazards off of it before you stow the thing. It's got that kind of vibe. (Still, I'm left thinking "Man, that thing just *slams* outta there!" as my last thought while writing this)

    Meh, Microtech stole knife designs. Benchmade did too. Everybody who makes a folder with a hole in the blade to open it, stole that from Spyderco. Assisted openers and the “wave” feature were stolen from other knife makers. The American Tanto design was stolen from Cold Steel. Who stole the single action knife idea? Who made the first auto side opener with a coil spring? Clones aren’t near the problem fakes are. I’ve got a Vespa copy of the Microtech Combat Troodon. It’s a damn fine knife for what I spent on it. But no one will mistake it for a Microtech. It’s branded Vespa, has different screws and the blade doesn’t look like a Microtech. It’s D2 steel and works just fine for what I need it to do. Plus, if I lose it, I won’t be out $500. Vespa has some in house designs as well. Which would amuse the hell out of me if there were some American company that would steal their design and make their own version of it.

    But how does the blade length compare to your sword? Also where’s the avocado and chapstick, questioning your endless supply.

    I’m surprised there aren’t more single action switchblades on the market. From what I gather, the mechanisms aren’t terribly complicated, or at least in comparison to a double action. And knife collectors seem to be willing to pay almost anything for a switchblade. Hell, I once paid up around $550 for a Halo over 10 years ago.

    In my opinion, if a company like Microtech doesn’t want me to purchase a clone that resembles a halo than it is up to them to produce more halos so they are available. money is not a option, it’s availability. There’s only one way to fix that problem. Don’t blame us for purchasing similar items.

    I was on the fence about this one las Summer, but never went through with it until this week. You did a great job with your review and, as usual, played a part in my final decision. This is a single-action that I’m cool with carrying and (thanks to the sweet grind) using. It cuts like a dream and I’m already impressed with the elmax. Thanks again. On a side note, I couldn’t agree more about the counterfeits.

    I love otfs but just don't dig single action. If you're not armed forces or law enforcement I can't see why this would ever be preferred over DA. Cool pieces to play with but that's not enough for me to buy one. Glad people have the option that's just my view.

    I was browsing some autos and OTF autos at a knife store on vacation. Struck up a conversation with the guy behind the counter about wanting a Microtech OTF and he let me fondle a UTX-75 and a UTX-85 (which I later bought from DLT). I was like wow these Microtechs fire hard, significantly harder than my temperamental, delicate flower Benchmade Infidel. He says "oh, if you think those are good, check THESE out....and significantly less money!" Dude hands me a Cobra Tec OTF. "Feel that one! And D2 steel blade, made in the USA!!!"
    No bro, just....so much no. I left shortly thereafter.

    Respectively, you can't tell people what to spend their money on. You can't tell someone else that their money is worth spending on an authentic Microtech, Benchmade, etc. if they don't think it is. Arguing they're "hurting" the original manufacturer is flawed as well, that person was never going to spend the money on an authentic, so Microtech never had their money to begin with. Is it right for a company to copy the design? No. But condemning the person who buys one because they're "supporting" that copying company? That's called being a clown. Copies will always exist because people will always buy them. If there's a way around the law, like being in a different country, someone is going to make a copy. "Those companies are stealing from American makers." If it was legally possible to sell a copy within the United States, people would make them here too.

    • @nachoisme
      @nachoisme 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Respectfully, he can tell someone what to spend their money on, he can suggest how your money would be better spent, that clones are hurting the maker, and condemn supporting the clone market. That is not being a clown; that is giving an educated opinion. What he cannot do is force you to purchase...or not purchase...a clone or an original (or anything else). That is your choice as is his choice to voice his opinion that you should not do that.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Respectively, Wes, yes I can. And I will continue to do so. You can sit there and watch me do it, or you can not watch me do it. Those are the only choices you can make, but you have the freedom to choose for yourself. See how that works?
