I actually like the game pass model SLIGHTLY more than the PS+ model because even Game Pass core has some surprisingly good games. That said, I'm not too famliar with PS+. I could be wrong.

@Fulminashion here are some real numbers then. After this price hike game pass for console players will be $240 a year. That's 3 and half AAA games at the full price of $70. Xbox doesn't drop $240 worth of 1st party games a year, i dont think anybody does on a regular basis, but Xbox never does. Then, a huge portion of what they drop are old 3rd party or indie games. All of which go on sale regularly on the digital marketplace. Which further decreases the value of game pass. So now you're paying $240 for the same games I'm paying $160 for oh, except you're paying for a timed rental that goes away whenever xbox decides, and I own my games. Oh, and to add salt to the wound for whatever reason PC kids get to pay like 40% less than I do for a better service because there are games that don't come to console that PC gamepass gets. Yea what a fucking great deal as a console player.
@Fulminashion First off, there is nothing wrong with indie games. A lot of my favorites are indie games. I just am not going to pay $20 a month to play indie games.
Second 80% was a rough estimate. But seriously, look at the game pass. The vast majority is indie.
426 games only 44 are Series X/S, of which like 6 are not indie among those are Redfall and Gotham Knights.
41 of the 426 are xbox 360 games(I love a lot of these games, but I don't think games from 2 generations back add much value).
So now we are left with 341 Xbox One games, only about 94 of which are not indie. If you exclude the Xbox 360 games, you are looking at around 74% being indie. I still think $15 a month is not a bad deal for all the games on game pass(including indie games), but hiking up the price by a third of your original price is crazy when the only reason they are doing that is because they promised Black Ops 6, let's be honest they don't really have a ton of day one releases.
But hey, maybe I am wrong, and this is a move to expand the game pass catalog in a massive way, I doubt it, but maybe.

Honestly, I would never want to play 95% of game pass games like actually count how many you would actually play and those few I would rather own outright offline on my computer that I can modify, all game pass has going for it is I can play someone else's games day one for a membership cheaper than the cost of the game it's a tradeoff not a deal now the trade is bad so I will never use it again.

Games get worse -> fewer people think game pass is worth it -> MS makes less money from GP -> "dang, we need more money, increase prices"
Ironically if games were better, more people would think the pass would be worth getting, so MS would make more money.
MS is in a death cycle were they try to raise prices to preserve profits on a product with declining quality.
I bought a 12 month subscription to Amazon prime months ago, they just changed it so that unless I pay $3 more a month, I get ads. I cancelled that shit straight away and got my money back (for the remaining months)

@@DragonKnightGamer27 you can thank Steam sales. Bought Civilization VI for like $2 just a few days ago thanks to Steam's Summer Sale. I know I aint gonna play the game for a while, if not ever, but the option for me having it for dirt cheap is great.
@@DragonKnightGamer27You get intrinsically more value out of games on Steam rather than having to whore out money to pay the gamepass subscription, those unplayed games are not a burden since the lad only had to pay for it once and, possibly in the best case scenario, at whooping dirt cheap prices during the Steam sales. To get actual worth out of gamepass you’ll have to play all of their catalogue otherwise you’ll be simply paying constantly for the same game rather than a single purchase.
I also have quite a hefty backlog of games, but those are available to me at any time I want rather than at the whim of Microsoft and/or if I simply do not want to pay for the subscription anymore

The thing is that pc game pass is still the best deal in gaming. If there’s a game you want to play and it’s on game pass, you save a lot of money getting a one month subscription, playing the game, then cancelling your subscription. I’ve done it a few times myself and will prob continue doing it in the future.

This is happening everywhere. You now get ads with Amazon Prime unless you "upgrade". For those of us old enough to remember, these subscription services have taken us right back to where we started in the cable days. 100+ a month for all your subscriptions and you still get shitty service and ads.

$240 is the equivalent to buying 3-4 AAA games on release date per year.
If you spend more than $240 on games each year, then you would be saving tons of money with the subscription. Numbers don't lie.

It already kind of happens if you count constantly shoving loot crates in our faces. They're basically just advertising their own product and it's ridiculous how many times you have to click off sometimes. I guess it's not literally "in the middle of games," but somewhat.
Mobile games, cod games, and a few other already do that. Amazon also started doing it for movies even if you have amazon prime (which used to be ad free)

Arma 3 does this thing where if u equip an item from a dlc u dont have the ad to buy that specific dlc will pop up in the middle 70% of your screen every 5-10 mins
The fact that Xbox and PlayStation still continue to charge you to access multiplayer games is criminal. Remember when online on the PS3 was free and you had the option to join PSN for it's "benefits" of online game save files and free monthly games.

This is what I've been saying since Game Pass came out. Everyone was praising MSFT about this and it's crazy that they couldn't think for more than 5 seconds about the long term effects of it. What have companies like Amazon and Apple been doing for years? Reeling in consumers to create a monopoly/oligopoly and then price hike everything once competition dies out because they simply cannot compete with the infrastructure and advantages that these big companies have. People don't understand that normal "barriers to entry" are the problem here.
As a late 30s guy ive accumulated a decent library. I think its time I ended these subscriptions and replay through all of my games for the next 20 years

Not the same thing but because of physical media dying out I’ve been buying loads of dvds of movies and old tv series I used to love from second hand shops .. got a little library going now and I was sick of having to sub to different platforms just to watch a certain movie I wanted to watch. Also the same with old games I used to love playing. I’m buying it all now while I can before the big companies completely wipe out all of physical media. Plus if the internet ever goes down I’m sorted for a week of entertainment 😂 plus I read a lot with a massive library so I’m sorted on all sides .. honestly I’d rather just relive old games and shows and movies anyway at this point. Least I won’t feel depressed when it’s disappointing and not worth the money
Exactly, I've got 450 games that i've accumulated through humble bundles and sales and i've got so much to get through and im working through slowly. Like GeekyC says, i also have boxed physical games and media that i've been collecting for 25 years or so. Barring the odd strategy game, not a lot of newer AAA games floats my boat. Im in my 40's and don't feel as if im the target audience anyway, but im covered probably for the rest of my life.

Going from playstation to PC really opened up my accumulation of games (I blame steam for being the best digital game distribution on the planet, love them).
I've bought so many games for so cheap that I haven't even touched yet that I'm no longer at all concerned with getting any new games at full price.
Unless I'm personally super excited (which isn't often since my tastes are specific) then I basically wait till it's over 50% off.
My plan is to play all the games I already own, then use emulation to play all the older games I never played, or replay my childhood games.
Then I can pirate any new games that look interesting but aren't worth my money.
All without paying for online play.
And as new games come out I can calmly and easily pick and choose like it's a salad bar, and replay anything I'm craving.
Getting a PC rekindled my energy for playing games without hassle. I used to just sit in front of my library on ps5 and not be able to decide what to play because of choice paralysis.
Now on PC I have triple the games and can easily choose what I want right away.
The real problem is not the company that always looks for money in any way possible, the problem is the user who pays everything and does not know how to say "enough is enough!"

Yup. It's about that time. Sucks too. But with these prices you are better of building a PC. $240 per year for four years plus a new Xbox at $400(middle of the generation): that's $1360. A decent mid-ranged rig for most people.
I got my Series X in January of 2021. 🤦🏾♂️ At these prices.... Never thought I'd be canceling Game Pass. Never thought I'd be considering not getting the next Xbox.

The problem with having to wait years for a crash in the subscriptions is that it won’t be 5 years. The slow disappearance of physical copies and the different ways you can get screwed with digital copies hinders the crash and staves it off because both are slowly dying. Once both are gone, there is no going back as companies now have you locked into having a subscription to watch new movies, play new games, or watch channels on your tv with the ability to say when you get access to them.
That's why it's so important to preserve physical media and the ability to play and access such media. Those who don't care will consume and pay for predatory subscription services, while those wanting to not take part of it will probably ( hopefully ) stick to that which doesn't have such models.

If you look back at the Xbox game show, every game was "Day One with Gamepass" over and over and over again with everyone wondering "HOW CAN THEY DO THIS?!?" This is how. With how many games that were going to Gamepass, I guess they decided that instead of just increasing the price of the normal package they would instead do a tiered system.

Less than 60 if you wait for sale. If it's not a game you want to desperately play on launch, easy to wait a year or 2 for a better deal while playing other games you bought on sale.
But if that 20$ also get you all the 60$ games you want to play on top of a bunch of free shit then it's a no brainer to go for the 20$ option.

I don’t know man, I just buy like a game a year and play it to death, then I continue to play older games in my collection.
I always have legendary Master Chief Collection halos to beat for achievements, Minecraft has free mods, Gary’s mod for TTT, black ops 3 for custom zombies, Single Player Tarkov with new mods every few months, and that’s just a few off the top of my head.
I just enjoy what I have, and when I really have an itch to play a new game I always wait till well after people have played and reviewed it.

The whole reason this was so cheap, is because Microsoft wanted to undermine Steam and get people into their subscription ecosystem. Microsoft lost hundreds of millions of dollars on GamePass, it was never profitable. Because it wasn't meant to be, the entire point was to make it such a good deal, that people would get locked into it, then raise the prices, at which point people will pay, since otherwise they lose access to all the games they play. This market dominance never materialized though, as most PC gamers at this point have vast Steam libraries, and they are not going to get locked into a subscription ecosystem, and Microsoft eventually had to realize this and adjust the prices to something that isn't outright losing them a fortune. The original price was never viable or meant to last.

Last year Microsoft already said they were doing poorly and needed to triple their playerbase by 2027 - unlikely to happen. Now they're scrambling for money because paying 10 bucks to play DOOM Year One for a couple of months then unsubbing leaves 40$ on the table compared to paying full price to own the game forever.

They can be sourced from elsewhere but Vimm was kind enough to convert to Xiso, so got to do that myself for the last few. I have one copy of everything in use, backup at home, and backup offsite (so keep hdd at my work desk)
