I Don't Think Xbox Is Doing Too Well...

- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at what appears to be an increase to Game Pass from one of the largest companies in the world. The streaming market has been inflating in the last couple years and specifically with Game Pass with day one releases being locked behind higher tiers it makes me wonder just how well the service is doing and if Microsoft could have potentially lied in their legal filings. Thanks for watching!

Try trillion. Microsoft is a trillion dollar mega corporation. It's not inflation, that ship has sailed. It's greedflation, and people need to wake up to that fact.

Gaming has become more about subscriptions and less about the actual enjoyment of playing. Companies seem to be moving towards making as much money as possible at the expense of gamers. It's becoming really frustrating.
It's not just gaming companies, it's pretty much every company.
This shit is getting out of hand, well and truly out of hand
As somebody who didn't buy a single StarCraft microtransaction outside of a WinterStarCraft supporter voice pack I take pride in knowing I'm among the very few who willingly waits until games are dead and irrelevant enough to play after they've come on sale for $20 or less because I know everything was bound to get worse after a single World Of Warcraft mount made more money than the entire of StarCraft 2 Wings Of Liberty. It's becoming more funny every day as payers continue to get what they deserve.

Prices are rising, meanwhile salaries are staying the same and even dropping. People are not spending money if they can barely afford food.
I cancelled my Game Pass a few months ago... Too many options left me indecisive on which game to play, so I would typically ended up not playing anything.
It's also not fun when you know you have limited time to play a game (if you don't get year long subscriptions)
For me the problem with gamepass is that I own everything they offer that I would want to play. Doom, quake, fallout, elder scrolls I purchased all that stuff.
I did as well for the same reason. Also my old Xbox crew separated as we became adults and had our lives to worry about more, so now what became my active intense hobby is now something I do maybe once a week, maybe twice on average. And I’m saving at least $10/month doing it. Actually I’m saving whatever ultimate costs nowadays, bc that’s what I had. And I had Xbox live since the Halo 2 online days. Gaming anymore is such a sham

@@Killthebatman87 yeah, but you could pay a one time fee of $60 to play online for the whole year. Raising prices for infinite digital products is wild. It's not even stress on their servers. Because you download the game and play it on the game's server or no server at all.
They gotta give money to the devs off of that (obviously), gotta pay the download servers and the cloud streaming servers (as well as feature implementation like "play anywhere" where you can continue the same save across PC, XBox and Cloud on supported games).
Because yes, gamepass ultimate does in fact double as a cloud streaming service - not to say, they're one of the best providers out there for that on top, which is an extremely nice bonus on top for anyone that utilizes it.
I assume the cost of paying to have 3rd party titles available on Game Pass is what they need to stay ahead of.
the problem is that the game pass is such a good deal it's literally killing microsoft's gaming division. who is ever going to pay 70 dollars for whatever microsoft game comes out when you could play it and everything else you want for a month for like fifteen bucks?
so instead of making seventy bucks per person every first party release, they make fifteen bucks once a month. plus they pay these other indies and shit to get their games on the pass.
the server doesn't play into it at all.
@@True_Terror_Tales technically, it's a way to get people to pay $70 a game anyways. Muta called it two games worth, yeah maybe if you're buying ultimate editions like mk1 (trash), but that's really 4 launch titles. When I grew up, my family maybe bought one or two new games a year, MAX. Microsoft is making off like a bandit since they've managed to now cut off the secondary market. Now it only takes 3 months of consuming slop you probably would have never tried before/ would be paying $15 a title at most to have now paid the same price for ONE launch title that you actually intended to play. The thing about subs like humble is if you cancel it cause you don't like a month's offerings, you can still play the games you bought already. In gamepass you can't so you're basically on the hook to pay every single month. Game pass has never been a good proposition and the early pricing was only to acclimate people and blind them to the purchasing powers they've lost.
Facts plus if you like the game enough you can just go buy it and support the company that made it. So in a way it’s a win win.

@@TheJohhnyE no it ain't a lie, my old one from circa 2008 did that.
dude that edit as 3:30 felt so jarring, such a rare muta edit
They lied about COD on Nintendo as well, not just GamePass prices.
Cory Doctrow spoke about enshittification. This is an example of it happening real-time. Not only are these companies removing features, they're also increasing prices. It will go to ridiculous extremes and people will simply say _I_ and go somewhere else.
Wait I thought Xbox wasnt allowed to increase gamepass, as part of the agreement with ftc, when purchasing activision blizzard
No, they said that buying ABK wasn't going to increase the price, or something along those lines
Not that GP was never going to increase in price, it's a sub service and costs are going up for basically everything out there, this was inevitable with or without ABK
Well I know you didn’t believe them😂 . Look all these companies want big numbers line must go up. That means capturing a massive chunk of the market , then they raise prices and or add new features that no one wants in order to justify the higher price . Funny thing is , I can’t imagine raising prices in an economically stressed environment is really all that good for numbers ..
they said they wouldn't increase the price to the ftc with gamepass and lied like Sarah bond lied about preserving games they wouldn't be killing Xbox 360 storefront if they were preserving games or would bring back backwards compatibility program
Since when Phil stopped to lie?
They found a loophole. The cause cannot be ActiBlizz. They just have to show that they increased prices before completing the deal(which they did a few months ago) and this current increase is just in accordance with that trend("rising production cost" sure!)
I haven't been with Xbox since the 360. And remember my parents buying the original Xbox. It's just depressing seeing how they've fumbled.

I'm traditionally a PC gamer. Given the quality, price and format of recent games (subscription battlepasses, micro transactions, etc.), and having missed the PS3 era, I decided to pick up a pre-owned PS3. All games purchased are on disc format. I'm playing games like Topspin 4, All pro-football 2k8, Fightnight Championship, Uncharted Series 1-3, EA NHL 14, MLB The Show 10, Tiger Woods Golf 14, NBA 2k11, FIFA 17, Madden 11, WWE 2k14, Twisted Metal 2, and more. I've averaged $12-15 per game, and I'm having a blast playing all these games as a first time experience. $70 for a game is insane to me. The value simply isn't there, especially given the fun factor in modern games has greatly diminished. I played along for a while. I did my share of battepass games, like Fortnite (back in the day), PUBG, but I'm done. I will never pay a subscription for anything again on principle. I would sooner forsake gaming altogether before succumbing to their desired model.
Honestly, I think this isn't "inflation." I think this is directly tied to the new call of duty release, which "coincidentally" comes out on October 25th. They bragged how black op is going to be day 1 game. Then turn around and up the price before it comes out.
Edit - wrote this while watching video, before he touched on the call of duty issues.

Bruh same. I hope it’s not to high tho. Like I already have enough bills to pay as it is. Fuck my life. I blame sleepy joe.
I remember buying a PS4 and then getting confused because I can't go Online on Bloodborne.. then it says I have to pay a subscription to play online and as someone who played on PC for years, I just laughed really hard because I thought no one is stupid enough to pay for a subscription just to play online.. and fast forward a decade later everything including your grandma needs a subscription
Grandma.exe has stopped working. Please call customer support at the extra cost of $79.99.
As someone being with ultimate gamepass for along time, I think it's time for me to step down when this comes
They’re taking that old school money making idea to heart.
“If you had a mowing business with 10 customers a week at $10 per customer, you’ll get $100. But let’s say you wanna make more money but don’t have room. You can say you value your work at $20 per customer now and even if you loose half of your clients, you are still making the same but with less effort with the room to add more/ new customers in the future.”
I wonder if these hikes are for that idea, increase to a degree that even those choosing to leave will be offset by those that stay.
I've had the basic PS Plus for about 10 years and consistently got the yearly re-up. This year is the first time I have not renewed. The services provided do not warrant the $80+/year price tag.
I don't know what tier you're buying, but the only tiers worth having are like $20 or $30 and $60 a year.
@@leopard_52 60$/year doesn't even exist anymore.

Yeah I do think the base tier got worse when they added the second. The second tier is actually pretty good even better than game pass IMO but also recently got worse.

As a Texan I love the Glock on the table just chilling! Nice touch to the background.
Quit my GamePass months ago when I realised I only really wanted to play Flight Sim. Largely given up on modern gaming, going back to my Steam backlog and gems from GOG I can own outright.
Same, once I burnt thru everything I wanted to play which were the gears and halo games I didn’t see any point in renewing as I don’t play COD. I will say Plague Tale Requiem was a game I played on GP that I was pleasantly surprised with. Probably not something I would’ve tried otherwise
@@Neo_Rain146 Yeh, GP was good for sampling random games. I realised most of the ones I liked were indie so would rather put money in their pockets than MS.
🏴☠🏴☠😀
For someone who plays mostly old games and struggle to find time to do it, I see no point in paying subscription fee. Also, I'm no longer interested in multiplayer, rather focused on single player/campain so I can do it at my own pace. Whenever there is a game I like - I simply add it to my wish list and wait for a sale.
You don’t own those either

So...
You may want to read some of the EULAs for some of the games you got then, as not owning anything isn't subscription related, it has been a growing problem on sold licenses for the past 15 years and is absolutely common nowadays.

why would I pay monthly for games when I have a steam backlog 200 games deep?
well you bought 200 games youve never played, you seem like the ideal customer, why not subscribe for games youll never play
@@Matt-Brannancuz he just might like to buy games and just play them, whenever they want, w/o having to pay monthly?
@@Matt-Brannanbased. Although hoarding games on sale that you PROBABLY will own a license to for the next 2 decades is different than losing the entire library the moment you stop paying subs. The hoarding is inflation proof. Multiplayer gaming is the biggest xause of the backlog imo, but even if you're busy working a job, you can always leave the account to your kid.
To be fair , how many off those you actually do play? Prob like 5 and daily scrolling over a library off games you will never bother playing. You own them in that sense , but look at all the money you wasted instead off just buying into a monthly sub to play and see what games you do like before buying them with a discount given by the subscription service.
So.. you waste tons of money on games you will never play in order to pretend that it's better than paying for a subscription for games you may or may not play?.. cute. 😂
