For those wondering, this is directed by David Bruckner, the guy who directed The Ritual as well as shorts in V/H/S, Southbound, and The Signal. The guy is a genius, and I can’t wait to see this one!
Wait, really? I love V/H/S! The second movie’s ending is one of my favorite horror move endings. Such a great franchise, tbh.
@@heymistercarter. Oh, I know that one! That one is pretty creepy, especially the woman. My favorite ones are Slumber Party Alien Abduction, where a family gets abducted and it’s all being recorded on a dog’s minicam, and the one where a group of adults go in the woods and smoke some weed and they eventually get killed by a killer/stalker that can only be seen on a camera. I have more shorts I like, but these are the ones I find pretty intriguing.
The Ritual was good. The Signal was good. This ... looks dumb. Another character in the trailer and movie would have helped

Such a beautiful film. Very thought-provoking. The boat scene almost had me in tears. I don't suffer from depression, but I know people who do and I've known some people that let it consume them to the point they ended it all. The themes in this film are similar to The Babadook but I feel like the delivery in this film is superior in every way. Definitely a must see!

Was at last year's Sundance Film Festival, reviews said it's scary AF. Will be checking this out when it hits theaters.

The best movie I’ve seen in ages. Depth and meaning and tons of atmosphere. Scratched my mystery itch, horror itch and thriller itch.
That alignment shot with the pillar is AMAZING! That alone makes me want to see this film (the rest looks great as well)!
She'd make a great addition to the haunting of hill house series, if they make a 3rd one.
Funnily enough, I thought this was the same actress that played Viola’s sister, Perdita, in the origin episode of Bly Manor. They look really similar.

1) Great atmosphere 10/10
2) Great tension/ build up 10/10
3) Strong female lead actor 10/10
4)After The ending was explained .... 7/10 ? 🤔

Okay, I just picked up on this. The note she reads to her friends says "there is nothing. You were right. You're safe now." So, in the reverse senerio, it makes more sense "you're safe now. You were right. There is nothing". Think about that. Even more mysterious.

She was married with a man that had 2 sides
The side she knew and his dark side
He had urges.. that dark side of him had urges.. urges to kill .. he urged to kill her.. but he found a way... To trick those urges.. so basically he built a secret home in the woods..identically to his house.. and he would kill other women there and live his dark side there.. so he dosent have to kill his wife.. but the urges became too strong and he killed so many.. so in the end.. he decided to kill himself.. so he could protect his wife.. from himself.. thats why he wrote that note.. you are safe now .
Just watched this today! Such an amazing film. Absolutely loved it! Don’t go in expecting a jumpscare-y horror film. It’s more of a psychological thriller film with horror elements. A slow burn masterpiece!
There were 2 o 3 jumpcares that scared the shit of out me though.

It was a jump scare movie. a cheap one too -> high volume jump scare.
I wish it didn't have it. the movie was great. it didn't need the jump scare at all. one of the reasons why I liked The Lodge 2019 over this one.
Just saw this and it’s absolutely great. If you’re a fan of horror movies/thrillers this movie is absolutely worth watching. I found a lot of the scares to be really creative and different than other movies in recent years. Awesome movie.

Just finished the movie and wow… Hall’s performance was top tier in not just horror but all genres. There was one jump scare that scared the hell out of me, when you watch the movie you’ll know which one I’m talking about. Perfect slow burn horror thriller but wasn’t that slow… 9 out of 10

Great watch this one. Enjoyed every second of Rebecca’s performance and the film successfully keeps a tense and dense atmosphere throughout the whole film. Definitely recommended.

This is the best horror movie I have seen since Hereditary.
Great acting but it just wasn't creepy enough for me to be great horror. Works better as a murder mystery.

Man, usualy i roll over horror movies these days, but this movie got me nervous all the time, you could feel the presence of evil the entire time, great story, mistery and truly psychological horror, my favorite gerne of horror. Super movie

Reminds me of a Bed & Breakfast I once stayed at on the outskirts of Hooterville....called the "Shady Rest" or something like that. Run by a widow & her three lovely daughters. And there was a lazy uncle who was always creeping about...
just watched the movie..... and it was sooo deep.. I'm lost for words. first the letter, "NOTHING is after you.." Oh my.. Lastly, this only goes to show how much people need a support system when going through something tough.. It was a smartly constructed movie. 5 stars!
Just watched this film and may I please say, it is AWESOME. Films these days are sooo predictable but not this film. I never bite my fingernails because it's a disgusting habit but I bit my nails on this film. Rebecca Hall, one of my favorite actresses was brilliant in this film. She's actually British but her American accent was spot on.
Finally, an actually eerie horror movie based on the feeling of evil presence and not pitiful monsters or shit like that. I was pleasantly surprised.
But isn't that literally every horror movie now. It would actually be a welcome surprise if we got a horror movie with monsters/lovecraftian entities instead.

For whatever it's worth, the scene where she sees her husbands face in the molding of the column, this was actually a practice seen in 18th century French architecture. The idea was a response to the question of what gives a house character - the thought was that if they could create molding designed after the contours of the faces of individuals with known personality characteristics, that they could literally imbibe the house itself with those same qualities.
this was so fucking unnerving. its a slow burn so not everyone will like it but i honestly had trouble sleeping after watching it. the thought of being observed is so terrifying

I see that there are a lot of divided opinions, but personally I think that the movie is great. The beginning was good and I thought that the ending won't match it, but it was decent. Maybe I just appreciated the twist a lot and that was the reason, at least it worked for my taste. Do yourself a favor- watch the movie and make your own opinion.
According to Rebecca Hall, the ending we see isn’t the original. She didn’t like the original ending and made writers change it. I loved the ending and i feel the original ending would’ve probably ruined it.

Its on HBOMAX here in the US 🇺🇸 and I also have Disney+ and it's not on there. And im 100% positive Disney+ don't feature Rated R movies.
I just saw this at the theater knowing nothing about it besides the cool poster, and saw it starred Rebecca Hall and was Rated R. The movie felt original and creepy. They played with some optical illusions in this that made me say "wow that was cool".
Those parts gets me too.

Until about the middle of the story, I was enjoying it, and figured out that the incident with Beth in her teens figured into the story, and what was happening to her in the present, but as the story went on, there was much I found incomprehensible and a bit far fetched. Beth had no clue her husband has these other activities , with the other house and the other women, after being married to him for 14 years? These women were never reported missing? Why did his cell phone have so many pictures of these women? (My guess is so Beth can find them, and think he is having extra-marital affairs with them) Some of her nightmares, and the spooky stuff she experienced, too were somewhat confusing, figuring out which is which. I know many viewers enjoyed this movie, but it just kept me wondering what the heck is going on? Rebecca Hall was great in this part, an underrated actress for sure though.
