No go away
Awesome, I love Other Side of the Box, it's still one of my favorite short films, so I'm definitely gonna check out your new one next.
would you mind sharing with us some of the backstory on the creature and how the one guy got ahold of it/thought he could control it and direct it? I'm very curious on the lore of these types of things
It's just a guy peeking out of a box and somehow it's one of the scariest things I have ever seen.
Actually more effective than what Hollyweird’s been trying to come up with.
I know! And then Ben is like, wait it could be harmless. WHAT NO
I would’ve gotten a bad and hit it
"Nothing is scarier than something that resembles a man, but isn't."
like the way he was just.. there
Horror films without jump scares that still scare the hell out of you.
You rigth
Especially if it’s well made
Maybe cuz I'm a psychopath but do people actually think this is scary? Because I don't find this scary at all.
@@aune6770 it's most disturbing, which turns to scary.
there are no jumpscares? now i can watch it lol
Am I the only one who is absolutely terrified imagining what Rachel saw when Ben left. It literally gives me goosebumps just thinking about the terror she went through.
It started dropping cheesy pickup lines
Nope
"hey, hey baby how are ya." *read in Elvis voice*
Ew i know that’s so disgusting
I keep rewatching it like it's going to give me more info about what happened to Rachel.
I love how it moved so slowly to begin with in order to give them a false sense of security. Then later it becomes evident that it can move faster than you can comprehend
Letting us (the viewers and characters) establish our own rules on how it works, only to reveal it was just fucking with us and those rules aren't true is always fun in horror when done right.
and that thing is really smart too bc he didnt move while ben going to get a knife
it’s so crazy to imagine the horror Rachel felt when Ben first drives away and the thing begins to crawl out of the box despite her looking directly at it
omg Iwas just thinking abt that lol
😳😱😰
😳😱😰
And there was more than one, so she must've been freaked out when they all started coming out of the box
Also naked…😰
The fact he went into the basement after hearing no response other than "yeah, whats up?" He knows the box-guy can mimic voices, at least call someone before going down
Lol horror movie logic is "immah go investigate alone despite convenient alternatives like calling the police when all lights were switched off at my house and my wife was missing"
I mean yeah why the hell did he go down there
But at the same time who knows what this creature can do
@Ben Jr really?
Nice one wasting your time saying this
@Ben Jr stfu
@Ben Jr no, there is nothing wrong with furries. stop being rude.
Practically anything can be scary if it pops up on screen suddenly with a loud noise. But that wet head peeking out of the box remained just as disturbing to me no matter how long I stared at it, which is a genuine achievement in horror. My favorite spine-chilling moment was the shot of its eyes just following Ben. Absolutely loved this short film!!
Thats the Difference between "Scary" and "startling".
Literally everyone can go "Booo!!" jumping out of a shadow and get a reaction, but you aint scared after that, you are pissed.
Someone just terrifiying you by just being there, saying something, saying nothing... thats something you have to earn.
I like how it seemed to be slightly out of focus, adds to the "that's not a man" vibe
That man in the box deserve an Oscar b
Everytime something happens in a movie with a strong sound it literally kills the fear factor to me. It's like the movie is saying, "your suppose to be afraid..now!..aren't you afraid??" Silence is the only genuinly effective thing in horror for me. Kinda annoys the shit out of me no one ever just lets it be quiet. Seeing something disturbing in a movie with no musical cue is always so much more effective
"Wet head" ha lol
Pov: You hear the "Yeah, what's up?" From the basement and immediately exit full screen
Same😂
You could TELL it was her voice but "not" her voice. Too cheerful, like nothing was happening in their world.

Box contains a literal endless void. The girl: Well that’s odd

She's in denial of what she's seeing. Trying to convince herself it's just a trick of the lights
@@GRasputin91 or she’s just really dumb

Love how Shaun gave a less that minimal amount of info or instructions on how to keep the man in the box still and then gets mad when Ben actually doesn't understand it like a normal person would💀
To be fair, Ben lied to Sean. If Sean had known that Rachel was there, it would have likely been different.
@@PureenergyriftTo be fair, Sean wanted to murder Ben (or whatever the box people do, I personally think they drag you into the box void and you become one of them)
@@Pureenergyrift How did Sean get him back in the box though?
well you also have to think about how the box came, we can assume the thing didn't even appear, there's no way Sean would've been not looking at it if he had transferred it to Ben, and he didn't even know it could speak, he literally had minimal knowledge of the box and Ben lied about who was there, if Sean had the information he probably would've told him specifically who had to look, but since he was told Ben was alone, he said "You". The context is really what sealed their fate, Sean gave what he knew, Ben looked away, the box gained a voice, the thing tricked Ben, the thing then became a family and escaped.
@@Pureenergyrifthow would it have been different?
The acting emotion when Shawn got mad at Ben for leaving the house as Ben was supposed to be watching the box was pretty powerful. You can really hear the mixture of the initial sadness of the doom Rachael is about to face followed by the sheer transition to anger for realizing that Ben didn't listen and then rage that Ben didn't listen again during that call.

i love how a 15 minute short Film on TH-cam manages to scare me more than half the horror movies that came out in the past 5 years or so
1) you're not watching the right horror movies if that's the case. the last decade has been a renaissance era for horror movies that hasn't really been on this scale since 80s slashers. For example... Hereditary? Get Out? Us? Midsommar? The Witch? It Follows? The Conjuring? The Babadook? Sinister? Insidious? Green Room? The Menu? Skinamarink? Happy Death Day (note: very camp but good)? That's just the top of the barrel of movies that I've personally seen.
2) Inherently, it's harder to keep someone on the edge of their seat for 2-hours straight than it is to do that for 15-minutes. Horror is a genre that structurally fits in a short story much more neatly than a long-form movie. Whereas comedy, drama, action, etc. need a lot of context, story, character development, etc. to really land the emotional beats-- horror is generally more effective the less we know.

The "reveal" that Ben was the one that needed to watch the Box and Shawns pure Terror and Anger in his voice is fucking incredible
I have more questions like... What really transpired between the two guys that made Shawn say, that's water beneath the bridge. Was Shawn dating her first? or was there a bad brawl??. Like I'm left wondering, The way Shawn intentionally told the guy to open the box before reading the letter. He wanted him to DIE.
I mean you can't get angry at the guy you randomly gave this horrifying thing to with little to no explanation
@@myivyfindstore I just keep wondering about that thing and Shown, we asumed Shawn give the box to ben because he couldn't take it anymore, and the only solution was to give it away BUT HOW IN HELL HE COULD PUT THE GUY INSIDE AGAIN?! Or why the thing in the box didn't want shawn
@@myivyfindstore I’m also confused why Shawn told Ben not to go back even if it seems he gave the box too Shawn for the purpose of it causing harm to him. But during the phone call, Shawn didn’t want Ben to go back? Like don’t you want the guy to get hurt?

“Why is it looking at you like that?”
I thought that was one of the scariest lines of dialogue in the film. I put myself in Ben’s position and imagine I would have been absolutely terrified by the fact that it was looking at ME in such a menacing way. Similar to when I meet someone’s pet that for some odd reason doesn’t like me and the owner says something like “that’s weird, she/he usually likes everyone”. It makes me think “what does that animal see or sense that makes it feel this way about me? Is there something wrong with me? What did I do?”
It’s hard to describe, but this fear is one of the worst to me. There is nothing to do to fix it, nothing to explain it, but somehow you are in danger and a single pair of dull black eyes are staring at you. I don’t think i would be able to save myself in this situation if i was Ben.
I watched a movie called Coraline, where a little girl was in danger because she was stuck in an identical world with a monster who pretended to be her mother. The feeling of that is similar to this. Why my mother? Why trap me? (sorry for poor english)

@@lim3eE3American here, I don't think meatloaf is actually that disliked by many who already eat meat. I do think we write a lot of jokes about hating meatloaf thinking about it now but its just a loaf of ground beef and breadcrumbs covered in some kind of sauce. Is it amazing? It can be but usually it's just okay. I think between it being a pretty basic and boring dish to make as well as its name, meatloaf, its easy to make fun of. I think also, it being so easy to make, part of the joke is that it's made way more often than it should so a kid gets sick of it after awhile.

People always thinks that what makes a movie scary is jumpscares and stuff.. while me thinking that silence is creepier
It's always the fear of the unknown that is the scariest. And when that unknown looks so like us, it makes it even more terrifying.
Also, the box man/creature looks a little like Hbomberguy which made me chuckle.
What's even more scary is how inanimate the thing in the box is. You stare at it at and seems to be just another object, almost like a mannequin, it doesn't respond to words or touch, but yet it's eyes move and it moves when you're not looking at it.

This is seriously perfect horror. Terrifying and ominous, but without cheap jump scares or even over-the-top visuals. It's eerie and captivating at the same time. I watched this one and The Dollmaker now. Easiest sub ever.

This is absolutely the best short film I have seen, it has no blood, no screaming just the silence and suspense, this is something makes you want more that’s exactly what we want in the suspense cinema, it’s just amazing
The man kinda spoke in the top of his man..
I know. It doesn't need jump scares and screams to make people scared.
Tooo quiet makes it even scarier
And some water....

This is the real horror movie that i'm talking about. No jumpscare. No overused of background music. Please make the story longer . this is what i want to watch in a big screen.
If they make it longer it wouldn't be called "shorts"
Bro the shower scene was a jumpscare
I got jump scared because I was looking at the comments when the head popped up and 💩myself
I think this is the perfect length for it. Remember how they made a movie out of 'Lights Off', and it just wasnt as good. What we *could* have in cinemas is an anthology of such shorts. That would be brilliant (imagine, the lights come on at the end of the movie, and you're the only one sitting in the theatre)
They tried that with lights out. The short was 100% better than the abortion of a film they made
So they could leave the house with it to look for Ben.
The thing lied in Ben's voice so that one person is left to guard it.
Brilliant Film

Yeah i’m late but theory here, Racheal definitely was taken within the box. The people that were on the stairs are all victims that looked away from the box. Racheal looked like she was on the stairs during the last part. Once you’re in the box it’s like it traps and converts you into one of them. I absolutely love this
Great analysis.
@@myivyfindstore that’s what i’m saying! I feel as if they were friends but both had feelings for the same girl maybe shawn before the other dude but it was fair game. It’s obvious they both deeply cared for her

This is the first time in an exceptionally long time that a horror film left me feeling genuinely unsettled hours after watching it. I saw it last night and couldn't get rid of this subtle dread in my chest. This is exactly what a horror is supposed to do. This film was fantastic.

This is a perfect example for great psychological horror. It's given real fear, not just fear of jump scares. Even in the short amount of time, you bond with the characters in some way. And by the end of it all, you're left with more questions than answers.

I hate jumpscares. They are cheap and not scary at all. All it doese is suprise you for a short momment. And them its over. All the scare is gone.
Psychological horror last longer. When you cant see it anymore it keeps haunting your mind. And I love that.
for sure
Am I the only one who watches short horror films because 9 times out of 10 they’re better than their longer movie counterparts?!?
Yeah I think the issue with horror movies is that the run time is too long and can be drawn out, and they try to focus more on story telling when in reality, not everything needs to be explained or to make sense, its the fear of the unknown thats most common afterall.
its because concepts are cool and scary with you to fill in the gaps with imagination, but a lot of concepts make for bad movies
Horror is ephemeral.
me too
I think it's more the mysteriousness and tension of not knowing the whole plot or a setting to it compared to a longer film where you need a plot and a setting
I love that this film is so good as a horror film, but isn’t all about violence, murder and that stuff, this is a masterpiece

Oh how cute.... little coddled, everyone gets a trophy, live "your truth", gutless wonder doesn't like "blood or violence" in a fucking horror movie.... so pathetic
@@Simple_Jackass Thats abit much, not that theres anything wrong with bloody blood uber violence but honestly too often its gratuitous and desensitizing to the true horror. Some of the greatest horror movies of all time have very little blood or violence and there was a time when it was nice to have a kind of horror palate cleanser between blood fests and vice versa. I wont go so far as to call you pathetic but you do sound like an entitled ignorant child that thinks way too much of themselves and who, in a world where everyone gets a trophy maybe didnt get one and just lives life now 🤬💩 on other people
The absolute TERROR that Rachel must have felt when she realized it was still moving even though she never took her eyes off it... Great short honestly
I honestly might seem messed up for this, but if I were the guy I wouldnt go back to the house. His “friend” kinda scared me when he yelled “DONT GO BACK TO THE HOUSE!” I would have been like “u dont gotta tell me twice”
I wouldn't blame you either. There was no point in him going back to the house at that stage. He had no weapons, only a flashlight. And of course, he was facing a literal demon. It's not like he knew how to defeat it. At the very least he could have called the police and a priest and had them meet him outside the front door before all going in.
I don't think it mattered anymore, really. It was out of the box. It could literally do anything it wants as long as Ben...and ONLY Ben... doesn't look. ...maybe. Who knows, maybe it can't leave the house.

Fear is caused by the unknown. The reason this is so scary is because the threat is never fully revealed to us.
Not all fear is caused by the unknown. Who the hell told you that, And no its not so scary because its never fully revealed to us. Its so scary because its a box with fucking people inside it. Not that deep. Stop trying to make it as deep as the box.
Tell that to Aliens and Predator movies today.
It makes me mad cuz I want to know and I want to know the back story of it

The thing I hate about scary short films is that they end on a cliffhanger.
And they never make a part 2
Even though i very much agree with you, i think that if the story would be clear the horror gets taken away. In most films it's the unknown that scares us
Not really a cliffhanger, is it? No light means he CAN'T look. If he can't look, he can't stop them. It's over.
@@Bluesit32 The cliffhanger aspect is in the unanswered question of what happens when the monster gets him. Does he die? Does he go mad? Does he get dragged down into Hell? Or something else altogether?
@@jeffdorman1 no answer is scarier
Amazing. 10/10. Give this director a full length film based on this. PLEASE!
I don't know who came up with this concept but its brilliant, there's nothing scarier than a wet, white man in a box.🤣🤣
I think BBC were using the concept of creepy white man in a box for a long time. It is called Doctor Who.
How about a naked wet white man?
Can confirm, as I am a wet, white, man inside of a box
@@paulcoy9060 slow your roll Paul
That’s why I like the concept of this monster a lot more than other horror films. “Oooo it’s skinny and pale and scary” is an overused concept, while a sweaty white balding man is more scary because it’s a monster parading around pretending to be a human, or at the very least it’s something incredibly unnatural. I also feel like it adds a hint of perceived realism, because humans are much more of a danger to other humans in this modern age than any monster or predator (home invasion, etc etc)
8:13 - that was such a moment in hindsight. It completely fooled them. "Well, that could have been worse." What a perfect way to lull them into a false sense of "I guess we can handle this!" to separate them. The amount of times Ben actually looked away in the beginning but it stayed - JUST to wait out until they could attack them one by one. When the guy screamed that it was lying to them, the nonchalance of the beginning felt 10x more sinister.
your observation is exceptional, when he let them look at each other for almost 2 seconds he just gently took out his fingers to make them believe that he was slow, the moment they did their test I said to myself that the "thing" in the box could perhaps move much faster and with each blink of an eye, until the "it was you" on the phone made me understand the extent of the lie, only the guy's look was effective.
Also at that moment, the Thing told them exactly what was going on. "Just Ben. Don't let him leave the house."
That dude's head popping out from the box almost took my life. The way he was seeing that couple can be more terrifying than a full horror movie. The thrill is what's scary the most to pop out your heart also. Hmm ghost n monsters can't alter your life but.. ALTER? On CHRISTMAS?
