Sure, it ain't cheap...but is the Honda Civic RS e:HEV four-door perfection?

- We loved the turbo-powered Civic RS, but has Jim found something better in the pricier and electrified hybrid variant?
Honda's i-MMD system offers many of the perks of driving a fully electric car with seemingly so little downside that it's now making his job of nitpicking a car very difficult!

Knowing that this car does not have that CVT noise is just a hugeee plus point!
That's an excellent review! I love the details on the driving dynamics and the subjective feeling. You clearly enjoy driving!
Just dropped by to say I have one, and I love it. Two months in, and I'm a happy camper. Only thing I wished they improved was the insulation. Because the engine is so quiet, quite a bit of tyre roar intruded into the cabin. But for all the other pluses of the car, it's a trade off I am happy to make. If you guys have any questions, go ahead and ask. I'll try to answer as truthfully as I can.
What about the suede seats? Easy to maintain?
@@aizekpersonal6389 Yeah, actually that's one more thing I wish was improved. Thanks for the reminder. Full leather seats would have of course been better. But so far, no issues yet. There are auto detailers out there that are offering reupholstering the seats to full leather. Maybe something to consider after a few years.
With you on the tyre noise point. It's a pretty quiet cabin with good refinement qualities but could use a chunkier sound deadening material around wheel wells.
@@carlist_my well for my part, done sound insulation at the wheel arch + engine firewall. More quieter now tbh. The only annoying part is the wind noise....
Is the car only noisy on the motorway. I collect mine next month.
I pick one of these up very soon and think the explanations about the actual driving v an EV or a petrol were very good excellent review
Such a comprehensive and well-explained review
Thanks we appreciate that!
Nice to see decent asian car reviewers
Great video! Gives me a look into the hybrid civic that is coming to America in summer
Nice! Wonder hat took Honda USA so long to bring in the hybrid
Another nit pick you can probably add is the 'auto hold' button you need to enable each time you switch off the car as it does not keep that in memory. I know it's for a safety reason, but still....
Waiting for 3-year-old used units to appear in mudah next year, nak sambar terus hehehehe
It would be nice to have Civic in a wagon or touring version plus the eHEV.
It would be a superb all rounder (efficiency + usable space)
A less expensive version of Volvo V60? Yes please
I really love this civic hybrid. I’ve owned 2 hybrids from Honda former gen but it’s still great. Just that the price😅
But you owned the hybrids
how about the unresolved steering rack issue? hmm... that's made my think twice.
This issue happened across all Honda's lineup for years, but if people still keep buying their products, they won't try solve this issue asap.
Is this a 2023 or 2024?
How much is the cost of battery replacement? How long will it take to recoup the cost of battery replacement & differences of price btw this vs the turbo? Say if mileage is about 25,000km per year?
Unless we're mistaken, the lithium-ion battery on the Honda i-MMD is pretty tiny at around 1-1.5kWh - way smaller than a full EV.
Top speed only 180 kmh? Isn’t that slow? Is that normal for a hybrid? Btw nice presentation, straight to the point with good choice of words. Well done.
180 slow dude are you from ero?? for Malaysia road 180 is fast unless you have dead ☠️ wish 😂 with all the heavy vehicles change line without care for speeding car 😂 by the way 140 to 150 just nice for long journey in Malaysia… drive safe for others safety
1:35 so classy the way you tried to open the engine bay lol.
Anyway, this Civic sparks my interest. I am also curious what would Toyota do in response to this. Will they bring in the Corolla Hybrid or bring in the latest Prius(wishful thinking). But they need to bring the 5th Gen Hybrid with the 2.0mill to even stand a chance.
Toyota does make spectacular hybrids. The Prius (especially the 220hp PHEV) would be hugely tempting!
Toyota already has their Corolla Cross Hybrid.. I don't they have any business for bringing in Corolla Hybrid since the regular Corolla is struggling to sell.. Corolla Cross is a better bet for Malaysia market
RM16k extra is equivalent to 8 years worth of petrol.. (my fuel cost is about RM2k per year and I am driving a 2.5L NA these days)
Will u prefer civic hybrid or the corolla cross hybrid
this civic hybrid really like electric car...sport mode 0-100km/h just 7 second +, corolla cross hybrid just normal save petrol car
The engine noise Is not piped in. There’s a japanese 0-100 video on the civic with this power train with the audio from the engine compartment th-cam.com/video/-fmVA_A1-JM/w-d-xo.html&feature=share . It is the exact same sound you hear. Rather it’s programmed fake shifting.
@16:49 Dang why the closing door sound sounds like milo tin?
Is it me or this trim looks quiet lower than the turbo RS?!
3:28 wait, wireless android auto too???
Sorry. He should've said "wireless CarPlay and wired Android Auto" 😄
Wireless Android Auto can be enabled (just Google for it) but not all Android phones work with it. For example I can't get a Galaxy Note 9 to talk to the HU wirelessly
Hi Jim, do you prefer this Civic HEV or the Mazda 3 if price is not a factor?
Tough question. I'd still choose the Mazda3.....it's got that X-factor.
@@carlist_my That means i got the right car! Bought the soul red Mazda 3 2.0 High plus sedan. I aware that the Liftback is undoubtedly nicer and sportier. However, I unable to accept the poor visibility at the left & right rear. Futhermore I feel the practicality of having a larger boot space with the sedan. The only thing that disappoint me is that is doesn't equipped with the 360 camera which is only available with the ignite edition liftback
@@alexis2power281 hi bro, wait is your waiting time to get ur M3 high+?
@@dexmondeth959 during my time i waited about 12 - 13 months..order in Feb 22 & received it on Mar 23..i think now stock ready. waiting time should be 1 - 2 months..
Jim, suede or nay?
The suede is classy and the texture is nice. It's a yes
@@carlist_mynot sure if you’ll read this. but I followed your advice, and got a red one. best purchase I’ve made so far.
@@aizekpersonal6389Read you loud and clear. Great choice! Congrats on your new red Civic RS in Ignite Red!
Another huge huge setback is the terrible resale value. Civic petrol vs civic hybrid resale value is like earth and sky apart. If money is no object, then go ahead.
I think people who chose this car appreciates the technology, efficiency and performance. That alone is worth the years owning the car. Resale value is pretty nonsensical to begin with. Well I do think that only archiac minds think of resale value these days.
@@syafiqhusni9309 Wow, you are triggered by a poor resale value comment. If you know maths, you'll know that the total cost of vehicle ownership is purchase price minus resale value plus cost of maintenance, repair and petrol. Whether you like it or not, resale value is a HUGE component of the total cost of owning a vehicle. And like I said earlier, if money is no object to you, then total cost of ownership doesn't matter. Resale value may not be problem to you, but labelling it nonsensical and archiac is disrespectful to the rest of us who matters.
I don’t think there’s a wrong answer to this but just different perspectives
@@IM-kk3jq Exactly right. Our perspective is influenced by our willingness to spend on a car and our financial situation. The key here is to respect others perspective.
If our ron95 cost RM3.50 ...
How I wish they would bring in the hatchback version instead of the sedan. Plus the ducktail spoiler looks way too ah beng.
Nooooo stering rack
At the end no more for Accord to choose, civic for everything. Large in size and space, comfortable, stable, good handling, nvh, good maintenance than conti car, save fuel and affordable for some people with RM7k++ salary per month
For the price I would expect some decent seat covers not plastic fake rubbish
Byd atto 3 is crap
