    10/3/2023(100 comments at this times) - I work in hospital setting (27yrs) I've done CPR. 2:23 seconds "He's been down for NINE minutes (Never a good thing) I was talking to 2 other medical family members on the phone at this point. The NFL did a good thing here by CX the game. Damar's CPR event & recovery should never be hidden by social media. TY for having this video The NFL films doesn't have it available - yet) This is such a good video for CPR & AED awareness. So sad to watch here absolutely, but very needed. The existence of Rapid Response Teams / Quick Response Teams (QRS) are needed very much so. The NFL needs to cover these teams better & way more in depth. Not just handing out awards for what they did on this day, but for what they need to do to proper for such events. TY again & Thank God he pulled through.

Pray for a miracle.” I think the only thing that saved him other than the quick response was that he had so much oxygen stores from being a professional athlete. I watched this video in the first place because my mum passed away from sudden cardiac arrest a few months ago, and I keep torturing myself, wondering if she suffered or knew what was happening. I can't bear the thought of that.
    From what I've seen here, it happens in literally seconds. If so, that is a small comfort. I was told by doctors it would have been quick, but seeing something and being told about it are very different things. I hope with all of my being that that was the case for my mum. ❤

That being said, I was glad that everybody in the crowd took the moment seriously and stayed respectful from start to finish. Judging by the location where the Bengals player and Hamlin collided on that tackle, I am thinking that Hamlin suffered a condition known as commotio cordis, which is what happens when an object (such as, in this case, a football helmet) strikes the chest directly above the heart during a critical time in the heartbeat, causing both an abnormal heart rhythm and cardiac arrest immediately.

    The Bills players knew right away something was seriously wrong with Damar Hamlin the moment he fell and the Medical Staff when to treat him. I thought it was weird for ESPN to be taking that long of a Commercial Break for an injury. Then when they came back on and they showed the replay of how he fell and the face of the Players on both Teams I knew something was seriously wrong. When he was Transportated to the UC Medical Center theu were supposed to give a Press Conference that night but canceled it off. I thought to myself right there that they had either lost him or he was spending his last hours on earth with his family. Then they announced that he was stable and month later woke up. God Bless The Medical Staff 🙏 🙌 that we have !

    Hamlin later confirmed that he had an episode of commotio cordis, an extremely rare condition in which cardiac rhythm is disrupted by a blow to the chest during a specific 40-millisecond span in the heart's electrical cycle. The condition is 97% fatal if not treated within three minutes.

      Commotio Cordis. During heartbeat cycle, there's a narrow window where if sufficient pressure or impact happened on the heart, disrupting the electrical signal, it can mess with the heart leading to fibrillation and eventually cardiac arrest.
      It's a super freak rare incident, little to do with genetics or heart condition, or damage on the heart tissue, just a big enough impact on the chest that has to happen within 40 microsecond window of a heartbeat cycle.

    Now if I were a football play-by-play announcer, here is what I would call it...."Damar....stopping no. 85 of the Bengals from getting any more good yardage with a good quite-open-field tackle, now he gets up on his feet, and.....AND DOWN GOES HAMLIN! I think he collapsed! The referee sets off multi-whistles stopping play as he sees Hamlin on the ground not getting up.
    The color commentator would probably say "You are right! He is not moving. Not twitching, not fidgeting--you are right. He just blacked out and not breathing. The Buffalo Bills trainers are out there already and they are calling up their medical team to do CPR on Hamlin to restart his breathing. They have to do CPR ASAP."
    I would then say this---"Looks like Damar is going to have to go to the hospital and definitely he will not play at all for the remainder of this football game....and probably, in respect to his very serious condition, this football contest might be halted without playing the rest of the game.....and the fans will be asked to exit the stadium ."

    • @charlessmith263
      @charlessmith263 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The helmet on the Bengals' ball carrier no. 85 may have hit Damar's chest full blast as Damar was trying to lower his body on his tackle attempt, and Damar did not probably see that hit coming as he tried to tackle no. 85. Damar got up after the tackle, and then, the suspect "commotio cordis" that may have come from the impact happened about 6-8 seconds after the tackle, causing him to not only go down and collapse--but stay down. Very sad about this.
