Love this performance. Both outstanding. The little arietta 'sleep now' is absolutely lovely work by Gounod. Alagna's performance of this to conclude the scene is among the most sensitive, beautiful signing I've had the pleasure to hear in my 50 years of experiencing opera.

I have often wondered about that. In his later performances he interacts with his partners very convincingly. She is so beautiful. Why did he bury himself in the music rather than look at her? His wife was in the hospital dying of a brain tumour at this time. I don’t know if this was why.
