Malfitano is always absolutely great in all her so many different roles, in concert as well on stage. Everyone who has ever seen Kraus on stage knows him as a very unique singer.
Malfitano is always a superb artist; her 'Amelia' in 'The Makropolous Affair' at NYCO was absolutely mesmerizing and a triumph. The late Alfredo Kraus was a wonderful absolutely superb artist in every respect. Bravi.
Both singers sound very noble, beuatiful phrasing. The blending of styles is like a dream. Kraus was critiziced for singing Romeo to up in years. The modulation and perfect enunciation makes him the ideal Romeo. Malfitano forward crystal soprano is lovely. The soft messa di voce prior to the drammatic acuti finale is vocal art unequaled.
Thank you so much !!! I have never been a great fan of Alfredo Kraus and here he is a little past his best . I hear Catherine Malfitano for the first time ; what a beautiful voice , beautiful girl and so expressive .
I heard Malfitano in recital at Royce Hall in Los Angeles in the late 80s. In comparison to others I heard in the same hall in that time period: L. Price, Te Kanawa and Caballe, she had no magic. This reminds me. The others performed on a completely different plane.
That is sobering math because I watched it on TV on the occasion it was broadcast. I loved it and have never forgotten it. I really noticed Alfredo Kraus because he played to his partner beautifully.
can't say that i care for this woman's voice. maybe is it my speakers or the recording. but it seems grating. alas. thanks for posting. i do enjoy hearing variations on this piece.
Catherine Malfitano has sweet notes at times (especially when she sings the name of the bird "le rossingnol"--but doesn't get the low notes. Kraus's tenor heavy & overloaded with vibrato. They stage in the outdated ego-loving way, facing out to the audience most of the time. See Alagna/Netrobko's R&J videos to see the other-centric mode I prefer. Still, Malfitano's and Kraus's voices blend better than those of Dessay & Kaufman in the same two roles.
Thank you for sharing…💎

Lovely duet grandly performed. I first became acquainted with it by Battle and Domingo's performance about five years later, also lovely.

Kraus ha sido en su repertorio único.

Gorgeous!
Hard to believe this was almost 26 years ago!!!!! Time flies...
37 years now. It certainly does fly!

Both are great singers!
Why is Malfitano dressed like the Old Countess from 'Pique Dame'?
INIGUALABLES!!!

Malfitano looks like a spinster Princess Leia.
This is good for a recital format but foe me the historic broadcast of 1947 with Sayao and Bjoerling is unforgettable.
Always someone comparing. It's stupid and unfair.
Lovely memories of great performances.
Kraus whitout the moustache!!!
But this is NOT Jussi Bjørling and Bidu Sayao at The Met February 1947!!
En este repertorio kraus el Rey.
I wish they had done Pavarotti and Caballe the bed scene ... it would be heavily romantic
Pavarotti no sabía cantar este repertorio.
To compare is not the best. Everyone has preference for singers. If You do,nt like this performence, please do not listen it!
orchestra fail...

No seas ignorante.
