John something to think about any time you end up with some leftovers of highly figured slabs like this take the time to cut them into blocks that are 2 inches by 6 inches and either stabilize them yourself and or don't and sell each of those blocks for 30-65 dollars a piece depending on the wood and amount of action going on in the grain and knife makers will buy them up or you could even cut 2 inch square by 18 or 24 inches and sell them for a 100-150 dollars. you can make some good cash on your scraps. something to think about.

Was going to post a similar thing. Way too many organisations treat their staff as simply chattel. An expense to be "managed" when times are good and laid off with nary a thought when they are not.
I also liked the choice of green. Thought it came out great.

For filling rude voids where i work we fill the bigger voids first with bog, resin, expoxy, ect then seal the table under p180 then we use a wood filler after the seal has dried and sand that off with p240, leaves you with a nice flat face. Furniture Finnisher from AU here btw

For the UV resin filling small cracks. Check out the clear UV resin used in 3d printing, it's way cheaper and thinner. So it'll fall into the smaller cracks that the normal UV resin won't. It leaves a oily residue that you'll need to wipe off with wax and grease remover (stuff used before spraying cars). If the wood is really bad, you can just squeegie the uv resin over the whole thing, wheel it outside and let it set in a few minutes.
Also works for bubbles coming out of the slab edge during bigger pours, and bubbles coming out from spraying finish over the top. Game changer.

Blaxk Forest Wood Co does not seal the edges before they pour the resin. They say it will decrease the bonding of the wood and epoxy and will make it easier for it to delaminate with wood movment eventually. They use a cool room with a aluminium cool plate under the form to prolong the curing time so that the bubbles will be allowed to leave the epoxy naturaly and the epoxy to soak into the wood more. Their epoxy usually takes several days to cure just so that the bubbles will have time to rise to the surface properly.

Cam at blacktail studios uses some sort of melted wax/crayon almost to fill the voids in those soft woods. He then uses a large flat piece of metal to press it down and help cool it. That way he can come back with a scraper and gently scrape just the wax off without putting divots into the soft wood. He always says it’s very tedious

Sooooo question. When you cut slabs like that down. What do you do with the cut offs? Do you use them for another project? Just curious

I definitely would have gone with a lake blue just my personal preference, but it's going in her house so as long as she loves it

The blade is warping because there are no stress relief cuts in the body of the blade for the expansion. Even the little temperature build up can cause that.

I identify with that reaction so much. I find it so hard to express emotion- I mean I still give high-fives instead of hugs.
Her reaction was probably genuinely heartfelt despite what it looks like on the outside
