    In this video I teach you how to import SVG files into FreeCAD and convert them into 3D objects. This is a really useful thing to know because you can convert complex SVG files into a 3D printable model in a matter of minutes.

    Something I have noticed while working along your videos, for the horizontal and vertical constraints you can also click the line between the points, FreeCAD will then automatically select the corresponding points. I find this quicker and easier than manually selecting the points themselves =).

    Quick tip.....if you leave the draft workbench and have found that you forgot to turn off the grid just use the "g r" key combo.

    Nice vid I’ve learned a new ability in FreeCAD. You can also zoom to fit by clicking the icon with “ a page with magnifying glass “ that will centre and fit the object/sketch.
    Keep up the good work

    great video, do you think you could do a one in Freecad on how to import and sketch on top of images like PNG or JPEG

    Thanks for the video. For those of us where the freecad does not provide decimal places in the scale dialog - go to Edit -> Preferences -> Units. Do not change anything, just hit apply and OK. Close and re-open the scale dialog - voila, 6 decimal places are there :)

    I like your video tutorials. Been following you since your 1st FreeCad tutorial. You explain things very well and always straight to the point and easy to understand. Unlike me, always picking my nose and get lost Lol.

    So you can scan a hand drawing. Use inkscape to "trace" the drawing to a SVG. And this completes the path to a 3d print! Thank you so much!

    Very nice video. At one point you make your little Twitter scale bigger, in my case I need to reduce my model and the scaling just increases the size for what did understand. How do you scale down?

    Good morning,
    I just finished watching your SVG to STL file using free cad. My question is is there any way to make the outside surface of what you’re extruding smoother in free CAD. When I open the exported stl file in lychee software, the sides sort of look blocky and didn’t know if there was a way or settings in freecad to smooth out the number of lines for the contour. Thanks for any help you can provide and keep up the good tutorials on free cad

    The problem with that is that it does not ask which plane it should be in, and just creates a sketch in the XY plane. But I need it in the XZ plane and the only place I could find talking about it is an message on the FreeCAD forum where someone asks how to do it and later replies to himself that he had figure it out, but did not bother to tell the rest of us how to do it. So how do you do it?

    i tried that with an svg made of 4-5 solids full of b-splines but i wasn't able to make changes on the b-spline curves... do you know any workaround maybe? thanks!

    What do you do if the path imported on a different Axe? Even the 300mm box we create matches the wrong axe.

  • @jmemusic
    @jmemusic ปีที่แล้ว

    4:12 -> Not necessary. I saw that this depends on the SVG you import. If you are using Inkscape to create SVG, then you need to move your paths to the origin there; otherwise, they won't appear on the origin from FreeCAD

    I would like to see how this can be done with more complex SVG, such as one with holes and non-contiguous parts (eg, lettering from a logo)

    • @bigd22686
      @bigd22686 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'm trying to do rn, dunno if im doing it right but freecad keeps freezing and crashing on me

    • @pyd8032
      @pyd8032 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is doable but much more complex, you have to modify each non continuous parts manually. If you want to avoid a crash of the software you can create different sketches with only few parts.

    Is there a way to import SVG lines and circles as ACTUAL lines and circles into FreeCAD? I get all B-splines in the sketch, even for straight lines, which makes it very hard to reference further geometry to it.

    What I noticed is that if I import svg, and extrude it like you show is that the resulting shape doesn't work in any tool, like thickness or offset. I guess it's because the polycurve line is imported as a all separate B-splines instead of one multi-knot one. Do you have any solution to that?

  • @tanjamuller3247
    @tanjamuller3247 ปีที่แล้ว

    First of all thanks for the video! I almost got the result I wanted…although it doesn’t let me scale the svg file downwards. And the svg file is so big plus it doesn’t pin the imported file to the origin… like in your video:( maybe you have a guess what I am doing wrong
