    Thank you for the review. I have not had good luck with any of Mr. Tremblay’s books. So I was lukewarm on this story but Course of the Reaper is one of my favorites. So I put this on my library list. Then B&N put out an edition with extra’s and it was marketed as “learn what movies inspired the book”. So I bought it and the the whole thing was a con job. The extra’s are supposed pages from the original movie from the book. I was expecting something like, the head spin scene in the Exorcist inspired this in the book. Anyway, I think I’m done with Mr. Tremblay’s books. I hope you have a wonderful week.

    I literally just finished the book and had to search for somebody with a likeminded opinion. Because, for real, I didn't get the point of this book at all and my only thought when I turned the last page was, "bruh, are you for real." I enjoyed your review more than the book, thank you 😂

    Paul Tremblay is if Reddit became sentient and decided to write horror. 100% with you on the struggle to care about “Thin Kid.” How hard did your eyes roll out of your head during the chapter dedicated to explaining how the 5min scene in the movie where nothing happens is *actually* super big-brained and epic? 😂

    • @violetprynne

      That scene was the standout scene for me on why I didn't like this book. 😂

    I LOVED A Head Full of Ghosts…. Some of the stories in Growing Things were okay, and I HATED Cabin basically because of the ending. I love that you used the word pretentious in this video because that is what I think Tremblay has become. I thank you for saving me from reading Pallbearers (that review video was absolutely epic) and from reading this. I was going to check it out to give him another chance but I don’t think I will waste my time. You’re the best.

      Thank you so much! He's definitely become a very different author since the release of Head Full of Ghosts and it's such a shame. I like every book he releases less and less nowadays. :(

    As I prepare for my vacation at the Hollywood Roosevelt, I'm packing Paul Tremblay's Horror Movie book - the perfect poolside read for a relaxing evening.

    I LOVED HFOG as well, and I think Horror Movie is absolutely brilliant, but I didn't like it as entertainment. It was intriguing, and wonderful for analysis, but I just didn't care about these characters at all. Maybe that was the point? It will definitely stay with me though. TFS!

    I loved The Cabin at the end of the World, not a fan of A Head Full of Ghosts and couldn't stand The Pallbearers Club. I want to try one more book by him but not sure which one that should be ...

    On the other hand ( and I have not read it) an advanced college assignment to write 7 pages describing silence seems brillant.

      @violetprynne  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hahaha very fair point. But I still think these seven pages would fail that assignment :P

    Thought this book was great. Very only read cabin previously but I dug the ambiguity of this one and how it worked on many levels. It goes deep into self reflexive or post modern sections that really worked: there is one section in the script ( one part of how the novel is told) where the action being related actually jumps off the screen and digs into the mind of the audience watching the film. It was a true mindf**k.

    Oh no, I was hoping this book would make me like Paul Tremblay again!
    Like you, I really liked Head Full of Ghosts and Cabin at the End of the World, but I really disliked Survivor Song and I couldn't stand Pallbearer's Club. Why was it even called that, the club had so little to do with the story. And why it was marketed as horror I will never understand. Ugh! Tremblay certainly seem to find himself fascinating...

    • @violetprynne
      @violetprynne  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He absolutely thinks everyone wants to read about his own life experiences. And I feel like most authors are inspired by their own lives to write amazing stories. But Tremblay writes about the most mundane parts of his life and then tries to add a supernatural element to sort of make it interesting. I will never understand how his publishers are on board with this.

    I'm currently forcing my way through Pallbearer's Club, which is a bit of a slog compared to the superior Head Full of Ghosts that I had recently finished. Your video was helpful at steering me away from Horror Movie as my next Tremblay read. I'm curious if his short story collections are worth a shot.

    • @katblack394
      @katblack394 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, his short story collections are tedious, I have so say. The stories are good, but every one is open ended. Once you keep getting ambiguous endings over and over, the novelty kind of wears off. I've been trying to finish Growing Things for over 6 months now 🙃

    Hi Violet, Thanks for your honest review.. I didn't read the book yet and I'm a little worried, but who knows?!.... I allow myself to be surprised....Maybe i will love this book 🙃. By the way, Did you read already "Disappearance at Devil's Rock (2016)"? I'm very convince that you will love this book.

    My favorite Paul Tremblay novel is Survivor Song and then The Cabin at the End of the World. I have to say, I was disappointed in Horror Movie but I liked parts of it. I was annoyed through a lot and I didn't like the characters but I finished it because I had to know what was going on. It was just strange.
