When I was14 years old in 1996 my dad took me to my first ABB show and we were front row center and I was having the time of my life! Well Warren noticed me there and picked me out to a security guy and went and told Dickey he wanted to give me an Eat A Peach shirt and him and Dickey signed it and walked right to the end of the stage and picked me out and tossed it right to me along with a couple of guitar picks! I still remember that moment like it was yesterday and Warren is still one of my all time biggest influences and I've had a Hughes and Kettner Rotosphere on my board for almost 20 years simply because he uses one as well. He's one of the all time greats. Forever. Period. I've seen him live multiple times with ABB and Gov't Mule and he brings it every time. I couldn't even begin to guess how much time I spent in my bedroom learning everything I could on the Dose album and I saw them open for Skynyrd back then and they absolutely murdered Skynyrd. The original Mule took absolutely ZERO prisoners. They killed! Long live Warren Haynes!

After all I have lived a basically simple country life many many miles away from music venues, although going to them is one of my favorite ways to spend extra money and time. Over the past few months I have seen The Black Crowes, Allman Betts Band, Los Lobos and Blackberry Smoke 2 times, and I see North Mississippi Allstars and Cedric Burnside next week and Hot Tuna & Steve Kimock next month. Was a long 20 months without getting out to shows.........been since Aug. 2018 since my last Warren/Mule gig...........thankfully I`ve been collecting music for nearly 55 years to listen to during the close down times of music venues !

I'm in love with my Les Paul, but they are Les Paul SPECIALS. I don't like the maple cap, because it's so darn expensive, and makes them heavier, plus it changes the sound in a way I don't prefer. Yes they sound good, but I prefer the sound of mahogany bodies, as did Les Paul himself, why the first Les Paul Custom was and all mahogany body. Fortunately for me, Les Paul Specials are much less expensive, especially the model/years I like. I prefer the 1998-2002 era, which used a slim-taper neck, easier for me to play. They also don't have fretboard binding, which I don't like, and it's the only model LP Special that has one. I have a 1999 with humbuckers, 2000 with P-90 pickups, and 2001 with Firebird pickups in the humbucker route. Firebird pickups are becoming my favorite pickup, and I always loved the tone Johnny Winter got with his Firebird, and a few others too. Not many guitar players use Firebird pickups, because they are only usually found in Firebirds, which are not a popular guitar. Now we can get Firebird pickups for both humbucker route, and P-90 soapbar or mini-humbucker sized route. Getting back to Les Paul guitars, I love them, but without the maple cap. Truth be told, I've never owned a Les Paul Standard, and I'll probably buy an inexpensive one soon, to try the experience for awhile. And by "inexpensive, I mean a few hundred dollars. I recently spent $180 on a Grote ES-335 with P-90 pickups, and $389 on a EART Es-335 with humbuckers. Amazingly, they are both excellent guitars, with Indian rosewood fretboards, and bone nuts, something not offered on more expensive guitars from Gibson and Fender. If you want to try a different kind of guitar, don't be afraid to try the inexpensive guitars from companies like Grote, and all the others - there are many making guitars in China now, and they are making good quality instruments. I still can't believe the fretboard on my EART, it has stainless steel frets polished perfectly, with rounded ends, like on a $2,000+ guitar, and the pickups on the EART and Grote sound great too - I don't plan to change either. Yes, I believe a LP Standard from China is in my future, probably EART or Grote, since I have a good feeling about both. Check them out peeps - they are really good instruments, and FUN to play!

Great wisdom 2:55 about how being forced to play fewer notes is a good thing.

Holy crap!!! i got That Willie Dixon box set for Xmas when I was 15 and it opened my world… I went from zeppelin to that and down the rabbit hole and never came back. No regrets.

It's the player,... not the guitar folks... just ask Joe (bonamasa),... you always hear this "Myth" surrounding the "59" Les Pauls,... but in truth, (and this has been proven time and time again),... (double blind tests),... many other guitars sound just as good! Sorry,... but there is nothing magical about a 59 Les Paul.

You're right, It's not the guitar, but a great guitar can unlock something magical from a great guitarist. It's about what inspires the fingertips

Steve Howe's thinnish tone melded perfectly with Chris Squire's huge thick bass tone. Best Bass tone ever, by the way.

I’ll never forget Warrens solo from Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad with Clapton and Derek Trucks. He nailed it, I think he was using a Diaz amp.

I read your comment and I could hear that solo in my head! One of Warren’s best solos.

I luv my gold top Les Paul. It's a Duane Allman tribute. Smooooooth and creamy.

One of my favorite players and a real gentleman. My son is is a huge fan and we met him on his way into the Beacon at am Allman Brothers show, he took the time to talk to my son who was thrilled. A real down to earth guy.

I wonder why the record companies would try & hide these vulnerable sides of the artists? I think showing the artists open up in thess types of ways is unimaginably effective in making them look like a human being. Maybe that's why though. Maybe the record companies have thought about their recording artists like the movie studios have their actors. Like the less you see of who they really are, somehow keeps this aura of who, we as the fans, see them in our own imaginations.
