5:00 I remember steps being scrubbed in Leeds when I was a kid in the '50s. The two sides of the steps would be reddened with _Cardinal_ red floor polish, leaving a naked stone tread for stepping on in the middle.
The Armley hippo is alive and well and may be seen on a Friday night. Both male and female specimens abound, though they are nocturnal unlike many creatures of the night, they are surprisingly loud.

Very interesting. It’s so sad that the old housing was destroyed. It happened all over the area, into Beeston and Hunslet and Holbeck.
