I used to work for Detroit Diesel here in Australia during the 80's. They handled the Allison Transmission side of things as well. I remember all the various 2-stroke variations....& this little video brought it all flooding back - wow 😉👍

Oh Lord, when I was 22 (2003), I got a really ratty but free 1955 Bel Aire 2 door, for free. It was total crap but had a 9" Ford swapped in. I approached a couple diesel mechanics I knew about possibly putting a diesel in it, and I was told it wouldn't be shit. Rear got pulled and the shell got junked when we found the torch cut and torch welded crooked frame.
I love this! Definitely a unique conversion, and sounds great with the screaming jimmy up front. 25mpg straight up isn’t bad at all for a 70 Roadrunner with a two cycle engine
2 strokes aren't uneconomical as people think. They just need to keep the weight down, find a good rear end etc. Someone here in the UK built a car out of various things. It has the Commer TS3 2 stroke diesel engine in it and he gets over 30mpg. Not bad at all.

impressive engine swap and such great mileage.. good use of oil for fuel. turbo and 3 times size of injectors..200 HP.. moves the roadrunner along nicely. well done Jon! Your HP may be only 100, but the torque is through the roof. I think it is like double the HP but it's a steady torque through the whole stroke. Coming from an old driver I love it!

That's because he gets 25 mpg on fuel he buys and mixes 50/50, with the free fryer oil he gets to make bio-diesel fuel! So half the fuel he burns is free! So it's LIKE getting twice the mileage! As far as costs are concerned!

mpg is normal for that engine, gearing and vehicle... its a diesel, idling this engine would waste a decent amount of fuel since it has fixed injectors but they are efficient enough under load.
ya got turbo all I needs to do is get like three size bigger injectors witch are relatively cheap an it doubles the HP the hard thing is finding time to make new header an doing it hope this winter an a hood to hide it so make em wondering what's under there

Detroit diesel imop is the best sounding diesel ever made. that and the 6.0 powerstroke. Question is how do you locate these things. This would fit perfect in a modern shit diesel motor swap.

@@cripto626 You can get adapters to just abuot anything, industrial 353s hae SAE mounts, the military gama goat aluminum block has 4 bolt muncie gearbox mounts, regardless you can bolt it up to about anything you want with existing adapters and a little bit of searching online 4btswaps has alot of people that have done swaps with detroits and a lot of good info there.

I just love seeing these old cars ,, and i must say job WELL DONE because i love roadrunners AND screamin jimmys my 2 favorite trucks are both diesel ,, one is powered by a 6V-71 i didn't convert it but actually bought it sight unseen as a project 1973 Chevrolet C50 ,was supposed to have the 427 BBC according to the VIN , has a very nice turbocharged 6V71 instead and my other truck is my own doing , it's powered by a 4BT cummins i just love it ,, it's a 5 speed 4x4 ,, and gets 35MPG burning fryer oil ,,it's been turned up a little and if i really get on it i can get 185HP and 400 LB/FT at the rear wheels ,, it's a quick little beast

My dad had a 3 cyl Detroit in an International pick-up. Woke up the entire neighborhood every morning at 6am. Luckily, they needed up anyway.

Did you make those headers? Did you notice much power increase from the stock exhaust manifolds? Your MPG is amazing!

The 353 was mostly used in log loaders, portable saw mills, small barges and back up stationary powerplants. They would run all day wide open.
