Quick note about the surgeons knot. Of course, using a blood knot on the last section might be superior, but when on the water and when replacing the tip in a hurry I would probably use a surgeons knot anyway. It gets me back in action quicker and no problems with the line laying straight or strength with those diameters. We sell hand made leaders in the fly shop and use blood knots all the way. I use the surgeon knot at all junctions and a double loop rock climbing knot for the loop to loop. Will have to try the blood knot. Use Bimini twist and put toothy critter on the end but was thinking I might try that giant spool of wire you can get at bass pro. Cause even the cable is stiff.
For a 8wt line,I use 5’6” of 40# Mono then blood knot to then 26”of 25# Mono then a blood knot to 18” of 15# fluorocarbon. It works really well. 3 sections and and only two knots. If there is snook around. I will tie 30 or 40# shock tippet.
Nice video. Why the surgeon’s knot for the tippet? I don’t like how the tippet come out an angle from the knot. I usually use a nail knot splice instead of a blood knot.

Just perfect leader...I'm doing the same( but blood at all the sections) from many years, with perfexion loop at butt section...
