    These are awesome pieces! If it helps, my experience using Crayola markers has led me to find that keeping the marker on the page while coloring large areas is the best technique to minimize streaks and layer lines. You can also use an Aquabrush as a colorless blender, and I’ve found that is the most helpful tool for water based markers. It lets you smooth out large areas that are still a bit streaky, and helps smooth any rough looking blends as well. I hope this helps 😊

    With watercolor paper, you have two styles...cold press, which is what you used in this video, and hot press. Hot press is smooth and has no texture so it might be the way to go for marker artwork.

  • @clairewilliams9416
    @clairewilliams9416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I’m still very new to alcohol markers but I’ve noticed that water based markers can be viewed by some as lesser. They are not but the two markers are very different beasts and if you treat water based markers like alcohol markers or visa versa your likely to be disappointed in the results. These pens actually look like they straddle a middle line here. These are not the markers for me but I could see them being really great for some people.

  • @mjpete27
    @mjpete27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I love the Molotow company and their dedication to refillable supplies! You might try a Bristol Velum paper and Hot pressed watercolor paper for beginners is most often the easiest transition paper to use, if your coming from marker papers. I would also suggest taping your paper down, even if you do not stretch it after soaking taping can help with buckling. I have a watercolor background so I thought of mixing for your limited number of markers right off!
    I have seen some amazing pictures with the Karin brand of markers as well, they have water and acrylic paint markers. You might check them out as well.
    Sweet video! Good to see you back at it ADC!

    I think I love you. I found your channel on a long and winding road that started with Sarah Clarke, took a turn at Jazza, wandered around a bit, and here I am. I love your style and what you accomplished with the palette you had at hand. It would never occur to me to use these markers (or really any watercolor markers) on anything besides watercolor paper so I'm really glad you showed how well they did there, as opposed to the marker pad. All 3 drawings are just amazing, though, despite the paper. I'm definitely a fan and now I need to try these pens.

    I only came across Molotow brand last year when I was comssioned to do a 2mx8m mural for a school, amd needed to black line the art work easiest was using acrylic markers as I wanted to do it in one stroke. Awesome result. Glad to see they’ve done this. It’s the banding issue that markers struggle with, so alcohol is the solutions as they blend better, so great to see this from a great brand

    Awesome work! I definitely like these more so than the Copic. For really crazy results, after I ink and clean traditional art. I then get a color copy of it, make sure it is color copy, as the paper is so much better, and even makes your ink look great.
    I then would color it, if you mess up, just grab another copy. Make sure you have another under what you're coloring, so it bleeds through to that. After that, you still have your inked drawing.
    I used these markers, to color the main character of a comic I drew as a kid, that I am now redoing.

    Best to leave areas unshaded. I sketch in light pencil, line with pigma ink, then erase all the pencil. Then I color. Leaving graphite on the page contaminates the nibs of he markers. I’ve found it transfers to the next area or drawing after time, which drove me insane very quickly. Maybe you’ve come across that maybe the ones you have don’t really do that. Regardless keep on illustrating! You’ve got great work!

    As an Artist myself firstly I applaud your channel and your work, fantastic keep up the great work. I have used various markers myself and the watercolour markers you are using they do look quite good, the only thing is for me, it seems Molotow are trying to re-invent the wheel, so many manufacturers keep trying to create markers that work like watercolours, but there is the problem, we already have watercolours, any artwork can be produced and can be achieved just using gouache which is a more vibrant paint for those viewers who don't know, then use mixed media with it such as watercolours or even acrylics, that is if you want that effect.
    Alcohol markers produce a flat flawless colour and they do look good, but they cant be blended traditionally, they need two or three layers of different shades with alcohol markers, they need a specialist paper which all costs more and more, but you could save a serious amount of money without the need to buy hundreds of markers when it can be done digitally, however if you prefer hand drawn work as I do there is a big bonus for traditional art, the cost of purchasing the likes of Copic Markers can cost serious money, hundreds maybe thousands if you go for every colour and refill, yet in watercolours, gouache or acrylic you only need 6 primary colours which can be purchased for under £10 which when mixed in the right amounts can make every colour in the Copic range, some painters I know buy every colour in the watercolour range, why! the 6 primary colours can make up every single colour. It is a massive con by the manufacturers. All these materials are thrown at us and they all look amazing, but they can be produced with either digital art or traditional paint at the fraction of the cost, please don't read this comment as a criticism far from it, I am just sick of manufacturers trying to fix something that isn't broken.

    if you are going to work on watercolor paper... with a water based marker... you might as well just get watercolor markers from like arteza, tombiow, or kuretake zig. I do know lifting to remove pigment with these markers is difficult. Best results were yielded by kuretake zig. The areteza colors are so bright and saturated I never got them to lift much or disperse in water once it was in the paper. But if you are expecting alcohol marker results with watercolor markers I dont think to a novice artist that its a pleasurable experience. The results are ish,.... Might as well just learn watercolor at that point or get Ohuhu markers the FULL SET with BRUSH TIP. I got ohuhu markers like 48 pack or something and one thing I did learn about copics. You have to have the lightest color value to darkest color value of a color. Otherwise you are just stuck with flat color. Great art is yielded by contrast in values. Less concern on color.
