- The Lada Niva must be one of the most versatile cars ever made. It serves as an ambulace, fire truck, pace car, rally car and they even made a special vesion of the Lada Niva for exploring Antartica.

Reliability - doesn't have it. Maybe a little in export cars. In Russia you have to fix niva even if it's new.

@@Liforus1 Is not necessarily about my preferences. I just want to see something different from the skills of a designer. I suggested 2000's design because i think it's more doable. I would love to see him turn a 2018 car in a 1918 one, but i dont think is possible.

I actually really like the original. Simple and effective. The only change I would want is a modern engine for improved power and reliability

The one change I would do to the Niva is to put a turbodiesel engine on it. That's the perfect engine for the job, maximum torque at low speed in difficult terrain.

I think Lada Niva stood the test of time perfectly. This car designed in early 70ies has
just petfect proportions. I think somebody did a hell of a job designing it.

Imagine waiting 1-2 years in queue to buy this Niva - Despite having the cash my grandfather had to wait nearly 2 years to get one . it was the coolest "Range Rover " at the time - which puts a smile on my face even today !

Lada Niva always looked to me like a body-building brother of Fiat 126p.
because it is, all the the first ladas are rebadged fiats with a soft facelift
It has a lot of Fiat parts, one of the government's requirements was to use parts which are already used in other cars.
@@visekual6248 all, except for this one. Doesn't have anything in common with Fiat except for the engine and transmittion. But the engine was made especially for Lada by FIAT (it wasn't on any FIATs).

Not that the design is bad, but this is the Niva ! You cannot change the looks.
The thing with LADA is that the model will never change , yet be in production for a lifetime.
I think that chrome windshield borders should be removed too. They look too old school. And maybe redesign Moskvitch 1500sl next time?
My grandpa had a Lada Niva that he sold recently but man, that thing is a beast! It has got more that 1 million kms and never broke down, though it did not had a first gear and a radio, but i loved it , that was the car i learned to drive stick shift on, and with my dad, we even did some donuts in a parking lot in winter ;D
Maybe a big project but instead of remodel cars why don’t you make a new one but make it inspired by a type of car. Like a gtr but a different shape

You should try to redesign the Yugo.. its impossible.
The best offroader ever. There were some factory modernisations on it but they kept it vanila as possible because people liked it as it is and mostly bought it for the capabilities and not too much of the looks.
Could you take an old mercedes G (1980 or so) and modernize it. Later compare your „vision“ with mercedes new 2019 model.
So many people ridicule the design of this amazing vehicle, they hold their noses high in the air until they see videos of 50 and $100,000 vehicles being crushed by the amazing Niva that cost 10 times less :-)

I'll be honest, the new front fascia is a bit sloppy. It doesn't follow the perspective of the car exactly, and you can see it lifting up to the right. Good work tho

Man, you are legend! The only thing I would do differently is I'd keep the front as @ 10:30 making it a black media screen all over the face so that it draws the lights, eyebrows and the Lada badge upon the ignition. How cool is that? 😎

I had the exact same reaction when I saw the Lada for the first time. It's like an offroad mini cooper classic or something. Wish there was a modern equivalent.

The front looks too much like a Defender or a G-Wagon. When you removed the roundness in the front you took away the cuteness of the original design.

I think it'd be so cool to see cars reimagined as other types of cars. Especially a mid 1980's Volvo 240 as a hatchback, or as an SUV, as an American muscle car (you know that boxy shape would lend itself well), etc.

Love the aggressive stance the tires and wheels give the vehicle. As an off road vehicle it either needs a bumper or push bar to protect that beautiful design you gave it. Great job!!!

I'd love to see what you can do with the classic Ford Sierra Cosworth. The two window design and whale tail spoiler are both iconic features but the front of the car, particularly the lights and grill are very dated today.
You've done a good job, looks really cool! These soviet cars is quite dramatic for me: there is always a potential that never been accomplished. Back in the day I've done some redesign on Lada Samara 2108 and was surprized how stylish these cars can be if you give them a little bit of attention. Dealer-styled versions is same. Would love to see your redesign of 2108. Best regards!

Actually, this is original Niva from Soviet union. Today its called Lada 4x4, and design is refreshed, not so much, but looks better. Also, it has "urban" version with plastic bumpers.

Btw, I know you're looking for some ideas, so maybe a Evo XI, inspired by the new crossovers or the Evo X would be amazing!
Keep in mind that the skinny tires are there for a reason. It's a very light vehicle so to get traction on wet or slick surfaces it needs the skinny tires.
The original design is amazingly clean.

There’s actually a restyled model: Lada 4x4 Urban. It’s not as futuristic (read: modern) and is more of a light low-cost facelift but still it looks a bit more interesting than the original Niva
UPD: there’s no way you could hide wipers underneath the hood. The car’s design itself would not allow this to happen if you’ve ever seen one

I love mine 2015 Lada Niva. The Niva is one of the coolest cars in the world. The Niva isn‘t a fast car. The quality is cheap. He is a thirsty, russians like and nearly every part makes noise but it makes so much fun to drive, you can go every where and it‘s cheap and reliable. I more like the old 1600 ones.

Yes. Yes I would drive the lada. Haven't even started this one yet i just think it's such a cool car. I mean just look at those chonky tires on such a small car. Perfect for all the mud roads of eastern Europe.
You can redesign it untill you faint. Lada Niva - the exterior estetic design is not the problem.

Folks, you're gonna feel the point - lada 4x4 still the most affordable, Niva is sells for 1/3 of price of closest competitor. Btw, It is a city crossover with increased cross-terrain ability) It's high time Grandma fo Russian crossovers had a well-deserved vacation, but looks like there is no chance to replace it on the market)
