      Have to admit Adam you are one of the best instructors I have ever listened to. I'm a bit of an advanced player and as you know it gets harder to improve the better you get. Progress comes in little increments. But I have found your drills dealing with rhythm tempo and the weight shift to be tremendously helpful. Keep up the good work. I like your philosophy on play around a bit with it. Instead of trying to follow a bunch of connect to. Type of instruction. I like your method a practicing better then the other types.

      Many thanks, been searching for "clearing the left shoulder in golf swing" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method minus the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my partner got great results with it.

    One of the most straightforward and basic (in a good way!) videos I’ve ever seen to get the swing right. I’ve suffered the dreaded sway from right to left in my swing rather than a rotation, and this has helped me ever so slowly and surely to stop doing that and hit much better iron shots.

    Another great video. I was and am guilty throwing the club at the top of my backswing and as a result I sometimes hit my irons fat. Your tip of little half swings to force the weight onto my front foot is a brilliant idea and one I will certainly try and practice. I always remember the saying, Rome was not built in a day. Keep these excellent and informative videos coming and I will always watch them.

    After the last video with the feel of whipping it this now follows on perfect. I had a 2nd and a 1st so got cut 2 shots. I'm am coming into the ball on inside now and ball striking far more consistent. Will work on my weight shift and tempo now. Driver is still my barrier to single figures but will get there. Thanks Adam. 🏌

    Based on my short experience I buy that idea presented ' on calm (downword) pressure on left leg' at coversion of back swing on downswing. Its not either to stay cool and wait for the club coming down... But try to focus on that thorougly on my winter training season. Your tips highly appreciated👍

    Great lesson. I am doing this now and sort of found it by accident. When I shifted my weight, there was a feeling of my body getting readiness and aligning itself for power. I think I'd liken that feeling of settling in to an archer pulling the arrow on the bow string taut and then settling it down for final aim and release.

    Adam, all your stuff is so well presented - when shifting into the right side, is it just the hips or does the head (and torso) go as well. Cheers, and all the best.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Ben.
      Regards the downswing (you mentioned right side, which would be true for a left handed golfer), the head should stay pretty still, with the hips shifting towards the target.
      Hope this helps.
      All the best, Adam

    • @JRC2053
      @JRC2053 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben, I don't think your question was answered. My study says not to conscientiously move your head and torso backward on the backswing as it will add another element of unnecessary timing to the downswing. It is also likely to cause a sway. Divided your right foot in half as a mental image. Feel the weight on the inside of the right foot and right heel at the top of the backswing. Let the head rotate (looking at the ball using the left eye per Nicklaus ) and drift back slightly as a natural result of the shoulder turn on the bacswing. Freezing the head in its address place on the backswing is not good either. See Jim McClean's "Eight Step Swing" for more discussion.

    3:40 perhaps that's why most good golfers started when they were children - when the club feels alot heavier and they are forced to sequence correctly

  • @JimCornell
    @JimCornell 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sounds like the two main lessons from this great lesson are to implement the weight shift to your front door immediately after reaching the end of the backswing and to extend your hips toward the target as you swing through. I really liked the reminder to come back to drill speed after a few full swings too. Also, as you shift weight, be passive with your arms and let them come through later in the swing, or you won't properly get the weight off your back foot. Thanks for the lesson!!!

    Question: When you shift into your left shoe prior to posting, are you moving lateral (heel to heel) or towards the front of the foot (Big toe)?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony,
      It's a good question, and I don't think all great players do it the same. I'd say the ideal is that weight would be somewhat toward heel of right foot at end of backswing, then transfer more to ball of left foot, then back towards left heel as hips turn out.
      Hope this helps.
      Best, Adam

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Hard to say without seeing you swing, but often there is a reason we raise up. A steep downswing, for example, would cause you to raise to avoid deep divots.
      Hope this helps. Best, Adam

    Great stuff again! How comes we never seem to hear the contact of club on ball - seriously, its like you have cotton wool on the club face or is it the ball going super sonic? One more thing could you do a piece on controlled swing and contact vs smashing the ball as hard as you can (what's the differences in distance and dispersion, etc)? Cheers ! 👍

  • @normankleinberg5525
    @normankleinberg5525 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    As far as I am concerned, the biggest issue is having PATIENCE in transition. I think there is a built-in tendency for golfers to shift their weight to the lead side as they transition from backswing to downswing, but it takes a second or so for the shift to occur. IF you can manage not to rush the transition, if you can pause for a second at the top, then you'll have more success in getting forward. The problem is looking at the ball and feeling you've got to rush the downswing. The recommendation in some swing models (e.g. Manuel de la Torre) to let the momentum of the backswing set the wrists naturally helps; the innate weight shift seems to occur once the arms and torso stop rotating back. Thus, if you wait a second for the wrists to set that gives your body time to shift your weight forward naturally. Regardless, it's for some reason extremely difficult for me (and I presume others) to slow the swing down.

      William,

    You talk about it being natural for kids to jump into it and throw their weight at the ball. Is there any method for helping a pre-schooler not get into too much of a bad habit?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy

      Honestly, I wouldn't get that detailed with a pre-schooler. Their instinct to make contact with the ball will regulate most of it.
