  • Dr Craig Swainey, who specializes in addiction medicine and is in long-term recovery himself, shares his perspective on how long someone should stay on buprenorphine medications like Suboxone, Subutex, or Bunavail in their recovery journey.
    -Safe, Comfortable Outpatient Detox
    The Coleman Institute for Addiction Medicine has been a leading outpatient addiction treatment center since 1998. Our innovative withdrawal management programs, often referred to as The Coleman Method, have helped thousands of people free themselves from addiction to Alcohol, Opioids, and Benzodiazepines. Originally founded in Richmond, Virginia, our network has expanded to cover 14 cities across the US.
    -3 - 8 Day Opioid Detoxification Process
    For short-acting opiates like oxycodone, most patients complete their detox and begin Naltrexone therapy within 5 days. Longer-acting opiates like Suboxone and Methadone typically take 8 days. Our standard opioid treatment package in Richmond, VA and Wellesley, MA includes the detox and 6 months of case management and Naltrexone therapy. As a non-addictive opioid blocker, Naltrexone dramatically reduces cravings so that patients can focus on their recovery. We have a 98% success rate for completing detoxification and starting Naltrexone therapy. During the detox, we work with patients and their families to develop an appropriate aftercare plan. We also offer a convenient, 3-day outpatient alcohol detox and a Rapid Benzodiazepine Detox.
    -Caring, Empathetic Environment
    Our founder Dr. Peter Coleman understands first-hand the challenges our patients are facing due to his own personal struggle with the disease of addiction. He has been in long term recovery since 1984. Dr. Coleman has dedicated his career to treating addiction patients and creating a team and an environment conducive to long term recovery for his patients.

    Why is getting off suboxone more physically and emotionally / mentally harder and in many cases 20X worse than if you just had to get off say a 10 year oxy addiction? If I had to do it all over again I would have never ever touched suboxone, and found a dr who would of tapered me off the oxy in rehab setting over a period of a month or two. The problem is the suboxone is a LIFE LONG PRESCRIPTION, no matter what you all are saying and you know it. It’s disgusting and immoral, and a long term problem being traded for a 3-6 month strategy.
    That would never happen because there’s no $$$$$ in doing what’s right, just what pays and makes stakeholders rich. In my opinion the addictionologists and Dr’s are a huge part of the problem because they aren’t and will never do what should be done to actually help people like the origins of their professions were supposed to. They aren’t willing to stand up for what’s right because they’ll lose their retirement, pension, etc you name it. It’s called leverage and they are just as bad as the cartels injecting fentanyl into our precious USA.
    In the end, God wins and will judge ALL

      But then again maybe you had a loving family who was always there for you who supported you and financially aided you in your younger years . Me , I had to work , ain’t no time to be withdrawling ! Ain’t no Time to nodd off , that’s why I only take oxy. Suboxone made me nodd off more than oxy , it’s really strong but gave me crazy depression and the worse anxiety and no confidence

    I feel that from a very young age there's an imbalance in your brain chemistry. That makes you dependent on certain medications to supplement the imbalance

    • @glenbearh9109
      @glenbearh9109 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! spot on. I am alcoholic and ask why can others drink a few and get away with it? Well I think it's in the brain so I avoid alcohol and am sober 35 years but I am still lacking something. I have been on medication and have found buprenorphine not only kills my severe chronic pain but it helps my depression. so bottom line is I am staying on buprenorphine. Address the underlying stress? Ok but it's in the brain so it is not that easy "Had a tough childhood? etc etc" these things add to it but the underlying issue is my brain is not normal talking only goes so far as do the 12 steps which BTW are in my life.

      That's kind of toxic
      Mine told me the same. It's not though. It's a medication that shouldn't be used for ever. They are making hell of money off of you. Of course they want to keep their patients. After so many years you should be stable enough to go down some and start to taper. It's been a handcuff for me and I'm sick of it

      My doctor said that too? Is that the playbook for Addiction Specialist's or "Doctors" to get people on it? I know those doctors get way bigger kickbacks from the government, and make good money being in the field of an addiction specialist.

      You have to taper down. I did it. Jumping off without tapering will not work.
      I lowered down to 2mg then to 1mg. I used Kratom for a week after to help with the w/d but research Kratom before using it.

  • @Killmaisy
    @Killmaisy ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hello! Please advise? I jumped from high doses of opiods to nothing for 24 hours, then macrodosed suboxone and avoided WD. Ive only been on sub for 4 days ramped up to 22mg and then back down to 11 by day 3. Now on day 4 I am trying to take only 6 or 8mg because of fear of addiction, plus I am not reacting well to suboxone.
    I probably won't get an answer before I will need to make a choice, as I read you can be addicted after only 4 or 5 days use, and that WD from subs are 10x worse than heroin?

    • @brielleanyez7113
      @brielleanyez7113 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You cannot become addicted after 4 or 5 days use. Takes at least 30 days to form an addiction to Suboxone. My husband unfortunately died of heroin in the end so I'm familiar with opiates. You'll be ok and I'm proud of you seriously 💖trust God, talk to him, I think you'll be just fine!!

    • @Rugmunchersauce3
      @Rugmunchersauce3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's not worse. It's longer but much milder. Much , much. But you need to reduce a LITTLE at a time and for a longer while to avoid as much discomfort as possible.

    I want to use suboxone to get off 8 month 20gpd Kratom habit. I know like you say it's not a long term solution but i have been burned horrible and i just want to get off this and it was so horrible that i will never take another substance a gain. This hurt so much i will never do this stuff or any drug again as long as i live. Problem is Suboxone is stronger than Kratom so you should use kratom to get off suboxone so that is a sort of a conundrum cause i def don't want to get addicted to suboxone.
    People have told me that taking Suboxone just a few times like 3-4 days you can become dependant on it cause of the long half life. Is this true?? I was thinking of taking Suboxone like this: 2mg-1.5mg-1mg-.5mg-.25mg Or 1mg-.75mg-.5mg-.25mg. Which one should i go with and would i become dependant on it like that? Probably start on the 2nd day of the jump cause i hear the 3-5 days are the worst? Will i become dependant on suboxone using it for 4 days like that?? Please i really donb' need another addiction

      I will suggest to cold turkey. You're the only person I have ever met in comments talking about using suboxone to taper off Kratom, i have only heard about people using Kratom to stop using opioids but hey everyone is different and you got to do what you need to do to get off those drugs. Trust me you'll feel great with the freedom you get without having to think about medicines all the time.
