Pro-Khalistan activists escalated tensions between Canada and India with a demonstration in Vancouver, targeting Indian diplomatic missions and symbols. The protesters mobbed and kicked an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, desecrated Indian flags, and demanded the closure of all Indian consulates in Canada.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has been accused of pandering to identity politics, amid his sinking popularity.
Though Khalistan is a dead and discredited cause in India, “Canada now looks like the sanctuary of choice for Sikh terrorists”, says Kapil Komireddi - Author of “Malevolent Republic: A Short History of the New India.

Dear Kapil, don't equate Hindutva with Khalistan or any other ideology. The motivation for Hindutva comes from the fact that, historically Hindus were divided for all kinds of reasons, and sufferred for that. Hindus want to change that. Imagine, if Europeans decide to form one country, based on a common Christian heritage, rather than local linguistic differences. Europe isn't even able to fight Russia, in the current divided state.
I do think, Muslims should not be bashed, and need to be integrated well, and for that we need Uniform Civil Code, and reforms within that religion, like Hindus went through.

Sorry, it is not true that only a few Sikhs propagate for Khalistan, if you talk to any Sikh who is living in Canada and few in Punjab will vent out their anger and would accept that they want Khalistan. My question to you is if very Sikhs want Khalistan than how come Mr. Amrit Pal singh won the election. In Punjab and Canada Sikhs do not want to come into light because they have to face hurdles by government.
