    Ugh. So close.
    Nothing against the actor, but I hated the portrayal of Link. His getting the whole time and timidness.. it just didn't seem like Link at all. Costumes, sets, CGI, the look and feel of every other character was great, I just didn't like how Link was portrayed.
    Again, nothing against the actor. And I can't imagine how hard it would be to write lines for a character that's been mute forever. Part of the LoZ experience is the player takes their own idea of how Link would react, think, say, in each situation. That's incredibly hard to capture because you've only got your own thoughts to fill in what personality Link has in the games.

    • @d_money707

      Norris Sizemore III I see ur point on link talking and all but a main character with no dialog would be kinda lame. Look at dude in the movie driver and only god forgives. He had hardly any dialog in the movies and not even good lines when he spoke. And the cowardly comedic thing kinda works with the whole thing. But respectfully see where u comin from

    • @norrissizemore3
      @norrissizemore3 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hector Damian Villalobos I totally agree, Link has to have dialog. Without him speaking, it would be terrible.
      I just meant that it clashed with who I see Link being in every game I've played.

      Hector Damian Villalobos it may be someone's version of Link.
      I just started with the NES version. Totally thought of Link as a tough, adventurer type.

    I feel like the cowardly depiction of Link would work better in a full length film or series. Granted, it's a nice reminder that courage doesn't equal fearlessness, but in such a limited time, there isn't a lot of room to explore the fearful side of Link. Nonetheless, the video itself is incredibly well done. The heart put into every aspect is abundantly clear, and makes it a joy to watch.

    • @gbpackerfan85
      @gbpackerfan85 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Professor Quack It's interesting you should say that... Even though the story throughout the entire Zelda franchise has generally depicted Link as a brave hero, it's actually dependant on the player behind (controlling) Link. As an example the part in Majora's Mask where you had to save the ranch from the alien invasion freaked me out so much as a kid lol

    • @FreshAsianSwagg

      I personally dont think this dead air filling Link fits into any of the characters/Links in the game. Link has always been the curious, less rowdy, courageous, tenacious, athletic, resourceful,HONORABLE (This link shown in this video, although not shown, seems to be more of the 'I can do it later' type of person. This is not like any Link shown in the games) and sentimental type. Not the joker, or even clumsy type shown in this video (although he is clumsy, but in a different way)
      Although this isnt a good representation, a few characters from the Studio Ghibli films could be a foundation on links mentality and how he acts (Take both protangs in princess mononoke for example). He's meant to be shown as a hero, not a quirky scott pilgrim type of person. I dont understand why all these other shortfilms/fan stories make him this way whilst nintendo keep pulling him out to be the exact opposite. A good look into his character is through Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, and Breath of The Wild cutscenes. Although they're all different people, they are all similar and shows his character. He is that stereotypical, sacrifice for the greater good, hero.
      Not the underdog, as this link shows here in the video.

    That was the best animation and the best real life trailer. The Viedeo was awesome, perfect, exciting, adventurous, cool, from the viedeo material nice, with wonderful background music and a great idea to integrate Link into a real looking world. (Almost like in BotW) Great work. Better could not describe this work just one. Thank you!!! :)

    Why? Why is this not an actual series on Netflix or something?! This is too good to just leave as a small sample. This deserves the full treatment and turned into an actual tv series.
    The Link in this seemed much more human. So many depict him as serious and fearless. I, however, have never seen fearlessness as courage. Fearlessness is simply being too stupid to be afraid; Courage is being afraid but still doing what you have to do despite that fear.

    • @ChadCosten

      100% with you, Alex! And very well said. As for this being a Netflix series, I made this proof-of-concept video for that exact reason. I so badly want to see this on the big or small screen and hope that fellow fans help share this so much that it eventually reaches the eyeballs of Nintendo (if I can't get there myself) and becomes something more. Thanks so much for watching! =)

      May I ask your thoughts on the Zelda movie in development, then? Personally, I'm excited for it. But so many Zelda fans think that live action is bad and Link talking is just plain sinful.

  • @ConfusedEcho
    @ConfusedEcho 7 ปีที่แล้ว +110

    Visually this was really well-done, the direction and effects were really strong. The dialogue, however, really took away from the overall experience, there was too much of filling dead air with Link talking to himself.

    • @ChadCosten
      @ChadCosten  7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Hello! And thank you for the criticism. I was trying to give a snap-shot of Link's character and how his relationship might work with Navi or how he'd interact with other characters. The actual scene would likely be a lot tighter and of course have more meaning because in this sample most of what he says is out of context. But I really appreciate feedback. Thanks for watching!

      Chad Costen I have to agree. Link kind of reminds me of Micheal Cera ( Scott pilgrim). Other then that really amazing special effects. I truly love how you guys have some of the most convincing locations. I have say still the best Zelda fan film

    • @FreshAsianSwagg

      I personally dont think this dead air filling Link fits into any of the characters/Links in the game. If ANYTHING this dead-air filling scott pilgrim like character fits in with another character from Nintendo, Pit. Even then, it barely does.

    • @tsemiu

      Tony Ravioli I want to point this out to you, since Link doesn't talk in any games and has no real personality, it's suppose let you give him your personality or at least how you would portray him in that universe.
      Link can be portrayed in any way. But the problem with Link in a movie is nobody will he satisfied if he talks because it's not you and his voice is not your own and that's the only way you've known Link.
      You call him an underdog but it's kinda what he is in most games. A forest dweller, a farmer, a small island dweller, a student... he doesn't normally start out as a warrior.

    Link was annoying, he was to chatty and not serious...I am not a fan of live action for Zelda, I think if anything would work for Zelda, it would be animation, 3d or 2d. Also if the format was like Avatar the last airbender where there is a big story but having a bunch of little side stories along the way. The visuals were the only thing I semi liked.....I'm sorry if this was offensive...

      Where Link can joke and all, he needs to appeal to everyone. He is everyone as the avatar of the game, and so should be as any movie. He comes across as annoying too, but the jokes themselves aren't.
      I think casting for Link would be critical. It needs to be someone with universal self appeal, and an aspect nobody really has about themselves so it doesn't feel at all alienating or taken. The audience is Link, a hyper idealized self.... so you have to give him attributes that nobody really has. You don't want to make him look like the high school bulley or nerd or jock or typical movie star or rich kid as not to say about the fundamental character, oh shit I don't think or act anything like that therefore its not me, in fact reminds of someone I can't stand... that avatar is already owned. Casting Link would be a nightmare... but the challenge would be fun.
      Add some seriousness about Link as players and watchers of such movie would also be somewhat serious, don't have him complain as much... they're wanting to play the game, not gripe about the game. Joking about things on occasion though is fine. It's a balance between courageous and cowardly... I don't think Link in any games seems to be cowardly, and he almost seems like parody. I don't see Link as a parody of being cowardly. More naive than a coward or brave. Part of why writing and casting for Link would be a challenge everything has to be middle of the road almost, balanced for all players or at least as many as possible. Or you'll break the illusion and vast majority won't like Link at all.
      Consider actually modifying Links voice, perhaps all Hyrulians have an odd vocal sound, higher pitch of some kind. Gives an other worldly feel that can't be claimed by anyone in particular (allows for that avatar to be available to everyone), adds a majestic and mysterious quality... I would also consider casting all Hyrulians as younger than what they should look for their actual ages. Again adding to the fact these games target audience is to children, but also giving an mysterious mystical feel. And to older audience nostalgia would be further provoked.
      My two cents on what I would consider if making a screen play for this 30 year gaming icon.

    This needs to become a full length movie, I'd watch it all the time. The setting is beautiful and I was baffled at how well Hyrule Castle fit into the scenery. It looked alot like the one from Twilight Princess, my second favorite castle in the series. I know it would cost a fortune and we'd have to beg Nintendo, but a Zelda movie needs to happen.

      I ran an indiegogo.com campaign a year or two ago and couldn't get enough interest to hit $10k. So unless Nintendo gives me the thumbs-up directly, this will be the only Zelda project I do unfortunately. Thanks for the supportive thought and for watching! Love it !!! Great attention to detail !! I would love to have this as a actual series. There is a lot of opportunities here for the series and all of you ! Could be as big as lords of the rings or even starwars if done correctly. Great job and most important thanks from a true zelda fan to another.

    Really great except the fact that Link can talk. I mean it's so unusual for me. I remember how surprised I was when I found out that Link could talk in the mangas. But other than that, IT'S FRIKKIN' AWESOME. However with Link talking it does help in the plot. Nothing against anybody at all.

    @jahmezzthompson7881 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is amazing!!!! One thought though...
    Out of all the concept videos for a LOZ movie I have seen, none portray a Link that doesn't speak.
    I know it would be slightly difficult to portray this, but movies with silent protagonists have been done.
    Any Mr. Bean movie, Silent Bob (Although he has Jay speaking), Valhalla Rising, Cuba Gooding, Jr. in Lightning Jack". The T.V. show "Switched at Birth" has a roster that uses deaf actors and quite a few scenes are ASL only.
    In other words, I really think it could be done to have Link never speak (or when he is about to have someone interrupt him or something humorous like that). There could be a Narrator for longer intro scenes, if Navi is in the movie she does all the talking, or every interaction with someone would work too. If he were to talk, make it like the Silent Bob, where he days one line in the whole movie. Am I alone on this one?

  • @mackenziechilders9377
    @mackenziechilders9377 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey! Great job! You clearly worked super hard on this! If I were making a live action LOZ film, I would most likely shy away from too many special effects and keep it as realistic as I could. However, your character and monster montage was very adorable, and I throughly enjoyed viewing your video. Well done!

    Oh my god. If there was a movie with this technique (which I wish there would be before I kill over) I would go out of my way to get it on what ever format. This was absolutely outstanding. The visual affects were astonishing for a small project.
    Breathtaking and deserves some kind of award!
    I hope Nintendo let's you create a fully developed movie. ♡☆
