My phone to phone transfer from XR to 15Plus was easy and relatively quick. When selecting the local WiFi, the login info wasn’t asked for - nice. I did get an Messages text before sim (card) swap-over that doesn’t appear on the new phone (could be because Messages wasn’t synced/backed-up to iCloud). Before upgrading, I did remove a lot of photos from iCloud to an external drive, making the photos footprint smaller and quicker during the migration. I now have Messages backed-up to iCloud. The Tips app is worth keeping on for a few days. Also, the Migration (before/after) may be a good time to review what’s in your shared photo albums.
I’d recommend avoiding erasing old phone immediately after transfer since restoring some apps to full functionality, in particular, banking or other authentication apps may require the old phone installations.

Such great information. Are there any reasons why these methods wouldn’t be recommended and it be better to just start from scratch? Although I’ve paired back many of my apps, I worry that these methods may pull over unwanted older data from uninstalled apps that were left on the phone. Hope this question made sense.

Will this method also copy over all existing text messages from within texting apps like What’s App, Signal, LINE, etc or do they need to be downloaded separately from those servers? Also, what about emails in the Apple Mail app? Do they get copied over too or do they need to be downloaded again from the mail server? And I assume there is no problem with copying over Notes and Files like PDF, DOC, and XLS that are synced with the iCloud Drive?

Any chance you have one of these videos for transferring from Samsung to IPhone ? I’m going from an Old Samsung galaxy s10 plus to a new IPhone 15 pro max !! Great videos Brandon, thank you for all you do.
Great explanation. One question though Is it necessary to update my Old iphone to latest ios software in order to transfer the data from old to new iphone?
From my own experience, if your iPhone has more than 50GB of data (in my case mine has 96GB) I found it to be faster to restore from a iCloud back up instead of transferring data with the phones next to each other. I know some people reading this are probably thinking “oh he has fast wifi for that to work” technically yes I do but I set my iPhone 15 Pro Max up at the Apple Store this time and from my test the download speed was ~100mb/s and the ping was about 16 from everyone else trying to set up their iPhones as well. I did try the method of having my two phones next to each other, only to have to factory reset it due to a condition error
It's faster up front/to get to your home screen, but iCloud takes substantially longer to actually get all data onto the new phone (especially photos and messages). That's why I will always opt for device-to-device transfer despite having strong wifi 6E speeds at home - because it's instantly there after exiting the transfer screen
@@BrandonButch I can understand how that does help, but to provide more detail on what was happening for me personally when attempting this method, my iPhone 15 Pro Max kept freezing up becoming unresponsive before I could even get to the transferring data page, I first tried to power the phone off and back on to save my progress and that caused it to then freeze up when attempting to connect to wifi, resulting in having to factory reset
