Yes, I did upgrade from an iPhone 11 to the iPhone 16 Pro Max. I really like it. But I Transferred all my data Manually, because I had cellular issues with my 11, and I wasn’t sure if it had to do with some settings, so I thought that was the best option, to set it up manually. Friendly greetings from Switzerland
I work with iPhones all the time, and I have had one for years. However, it is REALLY good to know that they have improved the phone to phone so much. I was backing up my phone manually to PC to do a 1:1 restore because the phone to phone and iCloud backups were completely unreliable. I will trust in the process and give this a try. Thanks!
This is my first iPhone (14 Plus) and I’m planning to upgrade to the 16 Plus soon. It’s like you knew this is what I wanted because I was a bit anxious as to how I was gonna transfer all this data to the new one. Thank you so much Brandon. 🙏🏾
Note: if you’re having issues installing the iOS 18.1 Beta update (or a future version), try this: 1. go through the setup process without restoring from your old device 2. once on the Home Screen of the 16, go to Settings > general > software update & update the software 3. Reset iPhone (as shown at 0:46) and transfer data
If you are doing this then don't transfer the esim right away. I did and when I updated to 18.1 and then reset it the esim disappeared so I had no esim on either phone. I had to call my carrier to get a new esim.
Thanks Brandon, this hint was useful: I was stuck in the migration process at the Emergency SOS screen. But then I restarted and decided not to restore from any backup and setup as a new device. After doing that I was able to get to the OS and see that I was still on iOS 18. I updated to iOS 18.1 developer beta then reset the phone to re-start the initial setup. Now I was able to get past the Emergency SOS screen.
Wait if my old phone is on 18.1 I realized I don't have a backup that I can "use" since June... should I update both to iOS 18.1 Beta 2 and then I can transfer everything to the new phone?
Thank you so much for sharing this! My folks and I finally upgraded from our IPhone 12 to the IPhone 16 Pro. So this video was just what I needed to get the process started… 🤗 I never fully understood how transferring worked, but after making sure I had everything backed up, I tried out my phone and it went smoothly! The process took no more than 15-20min max and I’m so relieved that I don’t need to manually transfer much (if at all!) 😌 Thanks again for explaining each step thoroughly! Appreciate you! 🙏🏼
Your video is a lifesaver thank you!!! Now I just need to get exactly the same case I had on my iPhone 15 and I'll be happy 😭 Is anyone else this obsessed with having the same phone in a new body? 😭

Thank you for this video! I got my pro max 16 by ups today. I have never set up my own iphone. I put your video on my laptop while I worked with both phones side by side. My entire time was about 30 ish minutes including the screw up LOL Thanks again Hello from Titusville!
I would love if you can do another full in-depth video on BATTERY SAVING tips. With all these news IOSs coming out I’m afraid my settings are outdated.
Hey Brandon - your videos are always top notch! - I had an awful experience with direct transfer from 15 ProMax to 16 ProMax. I had 650GB of data and it said 30-40min which I know is incorrect. Then it showed 1 day. 12 hours later it showed 12 more hours. I have read of others having similar issues this go round with this much data. I erased and tried again but used iCloud restore. I had access to the phone in 20min and it finished downloading in a couple of hours downloading 60gb total. Important for people to know about purgeable data which apple doesn't disclose to end users. These are usually large videos that are stored on the phone but also already uploaded to iCloud Photo Library. Apple earmarks this data to purge as needed. When doing iPhone direct transfer this local data gets copied to the new phone which can greatly increase transfer time. When using iCloud Restore, only thumbnails/lo rez versions are downloaded which was why it only had 60gb to download in total vs. 650gb. So I suppose in some ways it could be considered an advantage to use iCloud Restore if you truly want to clean up your new phone. Most importantly though is the crazy amount of time it wanted to do direct transfer. I suppose it would've been less than 24hrs but it sure was taking it's time. I would recommend if people have under 200gb to do direct transfer. Problem is the only way to see how much 'real locally stored data' you actually have on the phone is to connect it to your mac. When it mounts in the Finder I noticed it reveals the correct number first - then quickly changes to the purgeable amount. I also saw the accurate number in apps like TH-cam in the downloads settings. It shows how much free space TH-cam sees on the phone. Sorry for the long reply but wanted others to learn from what took me hours of research over the last two days!
Also - I was going to try using the Apple $60 USBC/TB4 cable for direct transfer via cable. Problem was how long might it take and then would I run out of power? - I also read of many others having over heating issues for some reason with this method.
Im just loving having dark icons as well as larger app icons without the text at the bottom. Makes my iphone look better now. Lot easier on my eyes also. works well with dark background also
Thanks for this! I've done it a bazillion times but it's always nice to review the process while waiting for my new iPhone to arrive. And to be reassured that e-sim to e-sim transfer is automagic. And I might add, it works automagically even if you deliberately ordered a carrier-agnostic iPhone, as I did.

Very nice video. Im trying to transfer my old iphone xr to 15 pro max. The question is when to remove my sim card from old to new iphone? Before or after transfer?
Luckily I did it the same way as you have taught and recommended for 13PM to 16PM. My 11PM to 13PM transfer was terrible cause I used iCloud transfer but something screwed up so a lot of things were missing. Had to re-transfer this same way used and will never use iCloud transfer ever.
Is updating the old phone to the latest update required or just to make it quicker? My new phone comes in a few weeks but my current phone has no storage and is on a pretty old update 😬

Hi, Great video. Thanks for that. I’m pretty sure I followed your instructions precisely but my new iPhone 16 Pro is staying in Bluetooth that it is discoverable as an iPhone 8+ (my previous phone- I know o know but it only just starting to fail in a couple of areas. The new iPhone doesn’t pick up any of my previous Bluetooth devices. It just doesn’t “see” them , so I’m not sure how to reconnect to existing devices or indeed any new ones that I might purchase in the future. Can you help please?
I spent several hours last night attempting to transfer everything over to my new iPhone 16 Pro Max from my iPhone 14 Pro Max, I left the two phones do their thing while I went to work for a few hours and used my Apple Watch ultra as my cell phone if needed and use my iPad to download the specific app to clock into work. Lol Came home later to find out my data transferred over fine, but it couldn’t transfer the phone number even though I paid off my old phone, AT&T wouldn’t allow me to transfer the phone number to the new phone so I had to wait until morning to call them but at least it was a relatively easy and quick fix over the phone for them to do.
Will data trash also be transferred? I know, that this method should be very efficient and as I upgrade every year, I nearly start fresh every year. But don’t wanna do it this year. Should I worry about any data trash which was on my old iPhone from old apps which I have uninstalled?
I transferred this way last time. This time mine was stuck on "1 day" for hours and wasn't budging so I switched to restore from iCloud Backup instead.

if you have one available backing up your phone to a mac or windows computer (using itunes) and then just restoring from backup on the new phone is probably significantly faster than iphone to iphone transfer because it took me like 4 hours going from my 11 pro max to my 15 pro max. You will probably need to have a lot of storage on your computer though if you horde a lot of stuff on your phone. I was using over 200gb on my phone so I would've needed to delete stuff on my computer first, and it wouldn't even have been possible on my mac because it has the same amount of storage as my phone
Hello and thank you for this guide !! just a quick question about Whatsapp - is this process also transferring Whatsapp autentication and chat history? In the past I remember logging whatsapp on new iphone was quite dangerous (if you did not have a backup on iCloud for example) since old iphone chat history was immediately gone after login on new iphone was completed. So wondering now ... thanks!!

Thank you for the quick reply! I think I used a 3rd party software called iMazing to transfer those apps in the past, but it would log me out of apps that had me logged in
I have an older iPhone XR I'm upgrading to the 16 Pro Max. Question: my XR phone has been with me for several years, installing/removing many apps and going through multiple beta updates, etc. In this instance, would it be better for me to setup the new phone without transferring data and settings (only moving over the eSIM,) or does that not matter? Mainly making sure the process isn't moving over old data files or left over packets from those uninstalled apps during this process? Basically, how clean is this process on the backend?
I usually don’t have trouble transferring data to a new iPhone… but this time, it was a bit of a headache. I had to delete and re-install apps because it wouldn’t allow me to log into them… And then my notes which I’ve organized into a PARA format was all dumped into one folder. So now I have to go back and re-organize every single note.
So what happens if you decide not to continue with beta? Do you still get everything back from your old phone? Does it still transfer everything over ?
Will using a usb c cable make it faster? Also any way to make the photos and apps appear faster ? Usually my photos take days even weeks to appear on the new phone.
Mr. Buch, I just switched providers and went from Iphone 14 to Iphone 16 pro max and have a new phone number, does this transfer setup download cloud data (ie. photos from old provider to the new one?
can you still use the apps on your old iPhone? I ask because there are some work login apps on my old phone that I will have to manually adjust on my new phone but until I do I would like to use my old phone so I can login to my work network.
If I transfer from my iCloud account, will the layout be the same and will my folders exist with all the apps within the folders or will I have to do all of that manually? Thank you in advance.
6s to 12pro… I got the orb, but the 12pro had to do a minor update. I didn’t get the orb after the minor update. I didn’t think to turn the source phone on/off again. I think this misstep led to a non-transference of some logins from the old to “new” phone. Does that sound right? Anyhoo, informative video, as usual, Brandon! Thank you!

Great video. just got my 16Pro and you made it easy, thanks.
I've already set up my iPhone 16+, and I know how to do it. I'm still watching because it's Brandon. Love your videos! Do you have any idea when iOS 18.0.1 is coming out?
@@EllcieTV haha thanks!!! And no idea, it’s whenever Apple has it ready! I wouldn’t be surprised to see it this coming week
@@BrandonButchthanks!!!! I don't see the video where you said first things to do on your iPhone 16. Is it not quite out yet? Also thanks for replying!
@@EllcieTV yep, it should be out soon!
I prefer direct transfer, only issue this time was having to login 3 apps due to updated Face ID. Visible makes transferring service a breeze also so total time for me was about 23 minutes for both and I had 128gb of storage in use surprisingly
Nice video 🔥, also can I choose which apps I want to transfer over?
Thanks! And nope, unfortunately not. You can always cancel the download once you get to the HS on the new device though
How much does 18.1 affect battery life? Is it worth it for Apple Intelligence?
Is updating the old phone to the latest update required or just to make it quicker?
My new phone comes in a few weeks but my current phone has no storage and is on a pretty old update 😬
Great vid! Very helpful!
Hey Brandon : you sticking with the Pro Max this year or Going back to the smaller size?
This video came right on time
Great video as usual:-) Could you please do the same for transfer from Android device?
I might do that! Do you have an Android now?
@@BrandonButch Yep, right now I have Ulefone Armor 17 Pro with Android 12 and iPhone 16 Pro Max is on it's way🙂I'm Android user since 2010 and never had any iPhone so I'm bit scared and excited at the samo time🙂
Great video! I can get through everything until the data transfer process. I am doing the side by side transfer method, but it keeps failing. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you so much!
Do all passwords for the apps transfer over? Thanks, Brandon!
Do you need internet connected?
How did you get you internet connected while transfering?
Great video Brandon 👏 mine has been sitting in china since the 20th and won’t be here till late next week. While I wait patiently what are some things I could or should do to prepare for the switch? Like should you practice good online foot prints? Such as delete old photos and files?
Loving my 16 Pro
No one cares
thank you so much I had a very hard panic attack from these kind of tech problems since I ran into an issue where I was locked out of some accounts a while ago I was worried the most about my phone # and my photos transferring over but I'm a bit more relaxed about it :) however do I need to have ios 18 installed or will having 17.7 work?
I’m going to listen to a fellow Brandon
I forgot to do this the day before i picked it up and i was sitting in the apple store for 2 hours waiting for the backup😭
Hi,
Great video.
Lol
Came home later to find out my data transferred over fine, but it couldn’t transfer the phone number even though I paid off my old phone, AT&T wouldn’t allow me to transfer the phone number to the new phone so I had to wait until morning to call them but at least it was a relatively easy and quick fix over the phone for them to do.
Did your watch transfer easy
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.
Does it transfer your AirPods connection too 6:00 ? Great video!
AirPods use your Apple ID, so everything using your Apple ID (including AirPods) will be used across devices, with no transfer needed.
Will data trash also be transferred? I know, that this method should be very efficient and as I upgrade every year, I nearly start fresh every year. But don’t wanna do it this year. Should I worry about any data trash which was on my old iPhone from old apps which I have uninstalled?
I’m still asking again,
Is iOS 18 worth upgrading to your main device? Any issue with 15 pro ? I haven’t updated yet
I transferred this way last time. This time mine was stuck on "1 day" for hours and wasn't budging so I switched to restore from iCloud Backup instead.
It said 2 days for me at one point and only took 1.5 hours lol it’s not accurate at first
@@BrandonButch Maybe I should’ve held out longer. Thanks for the info!
Yeah you could just cancel it and do it again, helps with giving a more accurate time
I always do restore I cloud through WiFi and always works out great and fast
Are you doing a battery tips video for iOS 18?
Thank you
How much data you had for the transfer via wireless?
Also, do you know how to do so via the wired option?
Nice Video..How to Transfer Data Iphone 6s plus with Home Button to Iphone 16 please? What is the procedure to transfer iphone 6s plus to iphone 16 please?Do you need home button to finger scan because my iphone 6s plus Home Button is not working please?
if you have one available backing up your phone to a mac or windows computer (using itunes) and then just restoring from backup on the new phone is probably significantly faster than iphone to iphone transfer because it took me like 4 hours going from my 11 pro max to my 15 pro max.
So wondering now ... thanks!!
Just got the iPhone 16! Don't do what i did and forget i was still on beta and tried to set up the new phone at the store. Was stuck there for hours cause i was doing a trade in 😢
Does the also transfer apps that no longer are available in the app store?
They'll show up as downloading but they won't download/install
I wish I would’ve seen this before i got my phone on Friday. The transfer process has been HORRIBLE for me
Do all of the passwords transfer over such as website sign ons?
Will this work with a older model of iPhone 📱 because I’m getting the new iPhone 16 pro max
Are there any issues with passwords or wallet info or in-app data not transferring over?
So what happens if you decide not to continue with beta? Do you still get everything back from your old phone? Does it still transfer everything over ?
Will using a usb c cable make it faster? Also any way to make the photos and apps appear faster ? Usually my photos take days even weeks to appear on the new phone.
Excellent thank you!
awesome, but I have a question if you don’t wanna transfer your pics, can you do that?
and I also have a different phone number not the same phone #
Mr. Buch, I just switched providers and went from Iphone 14 to Iphone 16 pro max and have a new phone number, does this transfer setup download cloud data (ie. photos from old provider to the new one?
Great Video
I watch your video and your video and it’ help me how to do things like this
can you still use the apps on your old iPhone?
Thank you!
What if you don’t want to continue on beta? Can you explain or make a video on that
Brandon, there’s a feature I need help with & no one seems to know about. It’s the ‘Access Notes from Lock Screen’ options in settings. They have an option to resume last note created on the Lock Screen when using this functions but I don’t believe it’s working correctly. If you see this tell me what you think is going on or if I’m misunderstanding the feature.
I’d like to press the quick launch note button & resume the same note every time so that I can quickly enter notes as they come to mind. But it just starts a. We note every time & I can’t operate out of a million different notes sadly lol. Thx
How about bank apps installed on the old phone? Do all of those info transfer as well?
How long did your watch take to sync to the new phone? That’s my worry is erasing old iPhone and the watch ends up having issues
just remmeber if ur transfering ur google auth codes make sure u transfer it to ur new google auth app and make sure it works correctly before u erase ur whole old iphone
@@BlackGokuSolos I transferred all my codes just fine
@@BrandonButch yea i know i usually make sure in case if it works
how would u downgrade from the ios18.1 public beta? (also, fire video 🔥🔥🔥)
Thanks!! I wouldn’t downgrade tbh, too much potential for issues
