Probably one of the most musically talented front men of the 80’s honestly. Everyone else had an Ego as big as their hair. Yet Tom was the only one playing lead guitar and singing, flying under the radar selling millions of records.

I agree when it come to hair bands no one else I can think that did it both but in the metal genre not hair thrash there were a few wickedly talented much harder music 2 if the most notable are Jame Hatfield and Dave mustaine Dave probably the most talented one out all of them just kick ass leads rythem and singing but I love Tom and Cinderella Kong cold winter to me was one of the best hard rock blues albums of decade such a great album the singles kill coming home gypsy road and don't know what you got but honestly every song on the album is seriously great I'll never understand why it wasn't a massive success they may have looked hair metal but that album was a hard rock blues album people just never gave it chance

Tom reminds me of a more bluesy Dave Meniketti, from Y&T. I think those two are very similar, in an abstract way. Both criminally underrated.

Just one problem with your statement, Tom played rhythm guitar, not lead. The late, great, Jeff LaBar was lead guitar. While Tom is quoted as saying he did most of the guitar work on the record, Jeff is the one stated to be lead. He also played lead when I saw them open for Bon Jovi during their "Slippery when Wet" tour, in Knoxville TN. That night, Bon Jovi shouldn't have even came on stage. Cinderella absolutely killed it and left no room for what came after them. It was literally like listening to "Night Songs", only louder. They were damn near perfect that night. Bon Jovi, while working the crowd like nobodies business, just didn't sound right. It was very evident that they spend a lot of time in post on Jon's voice. The band was tight and Richie was as good as you would expect him to be, if not better. Jon on the other hand, was very "pitchy". Imagine every Bon Jovi song ever, now imagine that voice after inhaling ~ 2 huge balloons full of helium! His voice is already in a higher range for a male, so this took it to damn near Alvin and the Chipmunks territory. Cinderella all made a big impact on me that night and I became a big fan. I still am.
      * NOTE* I was just 14 and had to go to the concert so my sister could go with her boyfriend...my now brother in law. I liked Bon Jovi, but it wasn't like I owned an album of theirs. I did buy "Night Songs" the next week with my yard mowing money. I literally played that tape till it broke. So, I bought a CD later on. I still listen to those first two albums today. And, that part in the video/concert where Tom played his neck and picked Jeff's strings and Jeff did the opposite, has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Oh, and the first thing I did later on with my brand new 1988 "Razzberry" Fender Strat HM was to try to spin it around me like they did in the video lol. ( a real one, not the squire with a pick guard or the one's with a single humbucker ) Well, I didn't know what strap locks were, but I found out real quick. Luckily the guitar wasn't damaged, but my head was different story. I probably would have ended up with stitches if I had told anyone. Talking about feeling like an idiot, boy I did. I still have that guitar sitting right behind me right now. It was a good investment and has only went up in value over the years. The neck alone is worth more than I payed for the guitar back then!

Easily my favorite glam rock vocalist of all time (ehhh, maybe he's a tie with Axl), but not super original, imo, I see him as a cross between Bon Scott and Steven Tyler. Phenomenal either way, I don't hold borrowing things against people, since all bands do it, most just lie about it at the end of the day. Remember Kingdom Come, lol? My favorite songs of Cinderella has been Shake me, Nobody’s Fool and Don’t know what you got till it’s gone, but watching Tom Keifer’s interview gives those songs a new meaning. Not only he is afable and talks candidly about his drugs problems and problems with his voice, he seems very humble and down to Earth. I remember Johan Sebastian Bach failed eye surgery and how Beethoven went deaf. After a period of depression, they both created the best and most beloved masterpieces. I hope Tom Keifer could do the same. While some people may claim that Hair Rock is dead, people like me who loves both classical music, (I play the piano) but also love Hard Rock and Heavy Metal with be able to hear new compositions and songs. God bless you Tom! You are an inspiration!

Tom, if you ever happen to read this, thank you so much for the music. It has been such a gift in my life. I owe you guys a lot. The price I payed for a ticket to see you guys open for Bon Jovi during the "Slippery" tour, then "Night Songs" on cassette at 14 after seeing you guys live, again on CD at 18, and "Long Cold Winter" at 19, was not enough for all the enrichment that music brought to me. YOU sir, made the 14 year old me want to learn to play guitar. I'm still learning at 49 lol. I tell people I play AT guitar, not play guitar. Your playing had/has so much feeling in it. It was pretty rare by that time, and is unfortunately almost non existent today. The blues in your music really came out of that Les Paul. Thank you, the band, the late great Jeff LaBar, and I don't want forget the medical professionals that helped with your voice. Oh, almost forgot, I'm proud to call you a fellow Tennessean. While I live in the foothills of mountains to the east of you in Nashville, I hope it's everything you were looking for in a place to live, and found you a home instead. Welcome home, you and your family are most welcome and we're glad you're here!
Anyone that is not a fan of this man's music, what are you waiting for? You've come this far, do yourself a favor and go listen to anything he's done. I promise you, if you like that style of music, you will not regret it. My old boss was about 5 year younger than me. He grew up listening to grunge, but it didn't speak to him. He found Van Halen and came alive. He thought that was the end all be all. We were talking about music one day and he asked me about "Hair Bands" and which were my favorites. I named two bands, the first he knew, Motley Crue (own every album, every book, some on audiobook, own(ed) all the shows, saw them live during "To Fast For Love", "Shout at the Devil", Girls, Girls, Girls" and "Dr. Feelgood", and who doesn't love "The Dirt" on Netflix...but the book is better and worse lol). The second was Cinderella. He had never heard of them, or heard a single song. I gave him a list of songs, with links to TH-cam videos, in an email. He called me ~ 30 minutes later saying how blown away he was. He loved it all. His wife did too when she heard them. He bought every album on iTunes that day, most without hearing a single song off of. The way he got her hooked was a bit different than most people. She loves ballads/love songs. So he asked me what to hit her with to start. I told him to let her hear the version of "Don't Know What You Got (Till It's Gone)" from the "VH1 Classic Metal Mania: Stripped" album. That did it for her. Actually, if you haven't heard all of it, do. That song, "Every Rose has it's thorn" from Poison, "I saw Red" from Warrant, "Sister Christian" from Night Ranger, and "Silent Lucidity" from Queensryche will all blow you away! The one that took me by complete surprise was Kip Winger doing "Miles away". I was not a fan, and I made fun of them as much as anybody did after Beavis and Butthead. But, wow, what a shock.

I don't know what that means, and she's all but deaf these days, but total dick move regardless. Totally not cool. In all reality, my friend was a big fan, and met him at a hole in the wall bar here in Hollywood (Power Station, I believe). Said he was super cool, and even bought my friend a beer, and sat and talked to him for a while. Sounds pretty cool if you ask me. He seems loud and obnoxious, but not unfriendly or aloof. Still doesn't make up for what he did to my dear sweet Grambly.

I believe that ages 13 through 18 are a persons most impressionable in their lives. It is really where you kind of decide what you like, don't like, love, hate, etc. In 1986 I was 16, and really leaning towards the metal scene of the 80's. I had already had a love of groups like Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Priest and all the big names of the time. Ozzy, Led Zepplin, ACDC and all those bands were also huge with me. The Glam scene was my thing though. Motley Crue was my favorite, so Cinderella was a natural fit. Tom Keifer was just so fucking cool and that voice! I had never heard such a powerful, raspy, rough yet refined. How do you describe it?

Ditto. I was 16 in 86 as well. Read your comment and it was the same micro universe I was living. Very different from today's scene. Many times I'm stricken by nostalgia when I listen to those bands or watch videos like this one. Very blessed to have lived that era, one that will never be duplicated. Cheers to whoever you are friend.

However , being the professional he and cinderella are , took the stage RIGHT on time , and put on a KILLER SHOW with great sound . So even if he was wasted like the rest of us were, it didnt affect the quality or sound of the band and vocals. All while having like 10 min from cab to stage. Always delivering that shot of gasoline and giving you your $ worth. Ive seen 100's bands but these guys top 3 fav!!!

Tom Keifer in my opinion, is the best of the best song writer's, guitarists and singers!!!!! The lyrics and chord arrangements in his song's, pure genius!!!!! I didn't know of Cinderella in the 80's, I was too young. It's 2018 now and I've learned of them, bought 2 of their CD's which is awesome and found out he went solo and has a new album out called, The Way Life Goes. Sadly, Alabama is always several year's behind in the music scene ( band's, shows, albums available etc). I'm hoping his newer solo album will be available soon other than just on Amazon, because that's one of the competitor's for the company I work for. There's a lot of people who want to buy his albums from other retail chains besides Amazon and I tunes, no offense to those companies. It should be available everywhere!!!!

We were sold on Cinderella from that night on. My best friend and I went out got ourselves one each an LP along with a cassette tape. We went to every show, when they came to town. The last show I went to was in 2014 I think at the Anaheim House Blues! Couldn't go with my best friend he died, that year,in an explosion. My he R.I.P.
