Pure genius…I’ve never thought about photographing a painting upside down to avoid glare. And then to use Procreate to merge the good parts together. Thank you so much for sharing this tip and to demo on Procreate your process.

Thanks for sharing. I do the same thing for my paintings. A friend of mine taught me to take pictures this way a long time ago. I do it with full natural light near the window to avoid any glare. Best wishes and keep going. ❤❤❤

Love the DIY copy stand! This is a great idea for artists working in a small space where they can't leave a camera set up all the time. One of our team said they still have lingering anxiety of dropping off originals to have slides photographed, hoping the lab chemicals weren't so old that everything would look purple, and worrying about masking images with mylar tape. Film photography was, and is, a marvelous documentary and expressive medium, but digital photography made life a lot better for artists!

Thanks! Yeah I’m planning to get a studio soon where I can have a camera set up, but for now this works for me :) and omg making slides sounds so rough!! I’m very glad we have digital cameras now 😂

@@christinakentart There are probably a few artists who have fond, nostalgic memories of sending their only slides out to a gallery with a self-addressed, stamped envelope, then waiting 6 months to get them back with a rejection letter... but we haven't met them yet.

When I have a painting with the size of an A4 sheet, I pass it through the scanner. The result is infinitely superior to any photograph. Even if it is larger than A4, I scan it in 2 parts and assemble it digitally.

This is a fantastic video. My setup is similar but I never knew how easy it could be to merge the two images together, I was always so intimidated! Definitely going to try this out :)

Yay, glad you found it helpful! Merging the two images is tricky at first but you quickly get the hang of it :)

I have a good camera, i just need a better space if i wanted to photograph anything. I need to get good first though. I was wondering if you might make a video specifically on the topic of encouraging us to paint, why painting matters. Why it is important for ourselves and society. Why would should do it even if we dont think we are great at it and if you have any hang ups about the longevity of a painting. You speak about everything I think throughout your videos and in your replies to many of my comments, but i think that would make a great video on its own. Just you talking about your feelings, just like you did with AI art.

A rigid tripod would be superior to the flexible holder. Don't take pictures in wide-angle as it results in lens distortion. A 10 second timer would be superior to 3 seconds
