  • We had a person contact us about vibration on his starboard prop. After inspection 2 blades from his prop were gone and one of the blades did damage to the hull, leaving a gash about 5 inches long and a half inch deep. I use a product called Splash Zone to patch the hull. Splash Zone is a 2 part product that sets up in no time and cures in about 12 hours. I have saved many a boat from going down with it. Even the ones I raise after they sink gets this stuff depending on the situation. Hope you enjoy the video. Its my first edit of a video so be patient.

    I found a Home Depot gift card with $50 on it and a Lowes card with like $45 on it a few months back. Talk about treasure. :) Thanks for watching.

    Excellent video. I always wondered how soft or malleable the product was as applied. Your hand worked better than any tool in applying and finishing the patch. Also kudos on the camera work. Good breath control made this underwater video worth watching.

    Good job Roy, looks like JB weld, I've used similar stuff but not under water. Cool.

    dude nice fix!!!! bad spot to have a hole lol is a big boat like a small boat as in I had a 14' aluminum boat and it would rain I would back it out get moving a bit then pull the plug lol allthe water sucks out so you don't have to pump it lol dad told us that as kids

    How would you fix a very large hole in the hull underwater? Add planks then seal the edges with this?

  • @MegaReception1
    @MegaReception1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Careful with the bubbles it can lift the epoxy. You can used this stuff on steel, glass or wood hulls. Marine Repairs and Salvage, inc. at the Panama canal.

    Two questions
    1. Can I use this for fiberglass hull?
    2. Can I use this for a large vessel, like a tugboat?

    • @frogman319

      This boat was fiberglass . You can use thos stuff on anything .

      Yes you can . As far as how long it will last I guess it depends on hole size . This stuff dries like concrete so it should last a very long time.

      E.Shahidy it's called Splash Zone . It's a two part putty like substance that is designed for this type of work. This boat still has the same patch on it without fail and they use their boat et very week.

    I'll get this editing down if it kills me...LOL. its pretty similar to JB weld. if you know of anyone with a boat and it needs a patch Splash Zone is great. it can be a permanent fix on some applications.

    I am having same problem in my boat
    Could you please tell me the name of the product you used

    • @frogman319
      @frogman319  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The product is called splash zone . It's a 2 part epoxy . One is yellow and the hardener is black. If combined right it will be the green color. Best to use warm water to dampen to mix it but not necessary. I usually just dig out the amount I need to cover and mix it underwater . The boat i put this on still has it on . He never hauled out to fix it . That shows you how tough this stuff is .

    Have you ever used "hydraulic cement" like waterplug inside a sack in an emergency? I remember seeing stories of warships during WW II being filled with concrete to avoid a stint in a shipyard.

    • @frogman319
      @frogman319  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      stanthology I personally have not done that. I've used a lot of materials to keep a boat from sinking or raising boats. Another great combination to use for a quick fix to plug hokes are toilet wax rings and cheese cloth. There are many tricks out there .

    • @stanthology
      @stanthology 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diver Below I can see how the wax would make
      complete sense as soon as the idea is presented! Thanks.

      @@frogman319 Man for the sake of humanity please tell us more, I'd love to be able to keep my boat from sinking in more than one way depending on teh circumstances and the material at hand. I am actually looking into splash zone because I saw it kept a yacht from sinking when it looked the case was beyond desperate, I am definitely going to get some as a guest of honor on my boat.

    • @frogman319
      @frogman319  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bengrizzlyadams6187 there are a lot of things you can buy fairly cheap and keep on your boat. I recommend getting a couple of the normal need footbslld. They are great for plugging holes especially your exhaust. Simple toilet wax coated on cheese cloth makes a great plug. The splash zones is great. There are some tapes that cure underwater like steel really fast too. But definitely recommend the splash zone and cheese cloth to keep on bosrd. Even the drywall mesh tape cam be handy for cracks too.
