    Pete, you should make a playlist specific to your baseball field renovations. I volunteer my time as a baseball coordinator for a youth organization with almost 600 kids that play baseball from 5U-15U. We have to maintain 9 fields at 4 different locations. I'm eager to see what I can learn through your experiences.

    A step you may want to add is rolling the infield to compact the loosened material. While it may have not been necessary on this field, higher end infields (ones with higher clay content in the infield mix) may require it.

    Pete, great work! The term is called 'crowning', which helps with drainage. A product you want to invest in is called Pro's Choice. We put it on all of our little league fields. It is worked into your field mix, and absorbs moisture to help prevent some puddling, and releases moisture when dry. It can downpour and the field can be played on in no time. Great job brother!

    Hey Pete, How's that field you worked on last year looking?

  • @philbuilds116
    @philbuilds116 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I always hated playing on clay infields. The ball comes at you like a cannon. Never minded the odd hops of grass fields because the ball was so much slower. You learned where the low spots were on your field real quick. It never helped being the most sure handed but the weakest fielder. I played catcher or first base depending on the pitcher.

      been there, done that, got the Tshirt...sunny afternoon after work, rocked my brand new WHIITE, expensive, glow-in-the-dark, super White Jean's to my son's little league game, I got picked to guest coach, then a half hour deluge ensued-turned that clay into slippery soup! Quick sprint to the dugout, my dress shoes lost all traction, weren't too white after that!!!

    • @GCITurf
      @GCITurf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL....... But the humps were on the sides of the 3 rubbers.... this field is designed without a true "hump" as a mount...all age groups + local girls and co-ed softball play here...no mound needed. the humps i refer to in the video came from washing

    • @billbrandon5936
      @billbrandon5936 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GCITurf ok...our district uses four inch mounds for our little league rubbers....it doesnt sound like much but its almost impossible to play fastpitch without some kind of elevation...i know the high school mound is signigicant

    That's very generous of you, Pete, to grade your kids' school's ball field so they have a level playing surface to play on. Although the area that you graded might be the right size field for your kids' ages, are you going to level out the outfield too? Older kids might want to play on that ball field so the outfield needs to be leveled and playable for them too. I'm sure the school appreciates you addressing the drainage issue on the ball field also.

    Wouldn’t a French drain solve a lot of issues here?

    • @steelejames9960
      @steelejames9960 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drains are usually avoided on playing fields as it is expected the athletes (in this case kids) can slide anywhere on the field to make a catch. If someone was to slide onto the drain, even it was small, could incur some serious injuries

    • @crunch9876
      @crunch9876 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steele James ok but it’s a French drain, aka a pip with hole running under the ground. There should be nothing on the surface for the athletes to injure themselves on.
