Jason Breeden did this one, not Joe of the Flowers Clan, apologies!
Joe must have been sleeping that day. I swear he designs all of the other condor knives
I also believe they have two different lengths of this knife available as I've seen a much longer chopper version on good ol ebay...
A wise man once said- If I turn on a video and that knife is not either in the WOODS or IN USE at the intended purpose it is bunk and I click off the video. I myself would agree with the wise man.........good job Sir. This was not a waste of my time and showed me what I needed to see. Cheers from around the pond mate.
As a knife maker, I've cut myself a time of two. My current fix is a drop of two of CA glue, and a quick covering of a small piece of paper towel. It's kind of like instant armor. Moments later, back to work, with no more bleeding.
Oiling the sharpener beforehand just made my day. My God! I'm not the only one!
want that frictionless slide
It brightens my day to hear FFIX music in the background.
I do like Condor's philosophy of solid, no BS knives. No pretense of being a survival knife etc
You know why I love this channel? I mean knives are nice but reverence for the music of Final Fantasy IX, that's really nice.
Hahaha another fun video. Your home and new knife dungeon are coming along nicely! Keep up this entertaining content!
I'm digging the healthy foods too. Those plates looked tasty 😋
Damn Bricky, right in the Insecurity.
Being a super genius freak of civilization and beast of nature is like being strapped to 11 with everyone already dead. 😮💨 My home is gone, music has no melody, and the god of greed and fear sits on a throne of ignorance, indifference, and insecurity.
I have the mtn pass machete coming tomorrow
Please review the Mountain Pass Machete.😊
Love the music, love the comparisons, HATE THE BRICK get out of my head! lol great work as always!
I'm always impressed with Pete's culinary skills, he's a regular Aussie Jaimie Oliver
The extra length of the handle allows you to swing it with more velocity. Like a whip. Try it with a long handle knife held at the base and compare it to a knife with a shorter handle. I’m not a physicist but you can def swing the mf faster if it has a long handle
The music was epic. You are a master of the background music
I'm currently in the market for a milk & water apocalypse knife & this looks like a winner! I own several Condors & all have required some edge work out of the box - nothing serious mostly touch-up/stropping. I find Condor knives great value and I never hesitate to use them - these are no safe queens. Agree with Pete - looks like a great camp/field/utility fixed blade. Re. sheath. My Condor leather sheaths are good quality and have lasted (with the occasional use of leather conditioner). This one however looks to be slightly lower grade - might be using bonded leather which tends to feel bit bit like cardboard. Thanks for another great vid.
What is a milk and water apocalypse?
@@DL-ij7tf It's when you get attacked by milk and water containers and have a sudden need to destroy them (LOL).
@@realbroggo Oh hahaha I should have figured that out
I no longer use drink or drugs, so I'm kicking off my weekend by watching this and having almost as much fun. Thanks Pete. Your vids are the fkin sh*t! 💪
Me too bro! 5 years' sober...last week! Knife collection growing, growing!! 😁👍🇦🇺
Dave Whipple used this knife on season 6 (?) Of Alone and the blade got beat to garbage straight away
What did he do to it tho? :-/
Well done Pete! A knife video deserves blood
When the retention strap is too short, I just wet the strap down and snap around the knife. It will learn the shape of the knife much faster
Thank U!!! Was ABT to return a sheath for this reason!! 😁👍🇦🇺
At 7:35, success ! I'm with you on the sheaths.Even 20 years ago some not-too-cheap knives came with disappointing leather sheaths. Most always have retention straps that are too short ! Give it at least an inch past the connecting device. Yeah, kydex is more durable but I still like a GOOD leather sheath.
Hey Pete, you know that stainless steel fry pan you’re using that the chicken is sticking to, you can make it non-stick in a similar way to seasoning cast iron. Love your videos mate.
Agree completely with your review. I felt the exact same way about my selknam. I like Condor as a company. There is room for improvement but then it would be more expensive. It’s all about what the market will bear. I think Condor is good value in the budget knife world.
@@LXT43 ….yes they all are. Never did I think I could spend so much on a knife.
My thoughts exactly, the fit and finish isn’t exactly stellar. but still good materials with a good looking design.
I come to this channel for the true survivalist triage content. Well done.
edit: Thank you for around 10:22 and 16:20 and the survivalist triage. Bless your heart.
The cooking music made me cry!
dude I am so thrilled to see you sharpening again with final fantasy music!
I always get a nostalgic feeling when watching your videos. You should rank your favorite Final Fantasy games lol
I actually kinda love this knife. I like a long thin blade for camp chores. I've usually got a small axe in tow so I'd only be doing light batoning anyway. This looks like a pretty nice choice for $100(In Merica)
Condor makes some cool looking tools that’s for sure. I really like the Bush Mondo. short machete-thin 1075 does a good job chopping wood, but it will roll of course. A little convex to the edge works wonders.
Even though it didn't come very sharp, it was far sharper than any of the three Condors I bought. I couldn't even cut myself with them, let alone cut paper. I could draw the edge across my palm with pressure, and no cut. They were duller than a butter knife. They have a lot of good designs, but they do not know how to sharpen them.
If you don't mind sharpening them before you can use them however, they are a pretty decent value. They have a lot of designs that I really like.
A lot like Ontario in my experience. Good designs, solid materials, not always best QC
QC has improved tremendously, recently bought 3 Condors : trail intent in 14C28, bushglider in 1095 and mountaneer trail in 440c, all 3 sliced paper easily. Not shaving sharp, but sharp enough that I had to spend less than 2 minuts on ceramic.
I have primitive camp knife, still this looks good too! I'm glad companies are making knives like this and Earth Skills Knife. The thinner spine makes a difference!!!!
You tempted the gods when you did that first aid kit video a while back and were duly punished.
A company called Hide and Drink makes some pretty nice sheathes and other leather goods. They are also made in El Salvadore and are available on Amazon. I think it's a pretty cool name too. I have one for a Mora Companion and I managed to stuff a Companion HD in it. Hopefully they will make one for the Bushcraft Black soon if they haven't already. I haven't checked in a while.
Awesome channel. Thanks for the review.
Ff9 was my favorite. Awesome sound track
Condor fill a good little niche in the market and Joe is a perfect ambassador for them.
I wish I could eat at your house. Dang. Now I have to move to Australia.
I like the modified coffin shape handle
Condor used to make great leather sheaths
Still do! My new low drag's sheath is 9/10!! 😁👍🇦🇺
Turn that chopper into a slicer! Big piece of steel there Pete, be careful!
Aloha thank you
Pete, a little mink oil or bick4 will "livin" that leather up. Still probably not perfect but it'll make a big difference.
You’re my favorite bro!!! I love your video game music when you’re questing thru the knife adventure challenges
Bricky has been spending time at the WEF I see
Your vegie patch is kick ass bud!
Low drag knife also have a good feel to it. Sheath fit is could be tighter.
So good knife. I got a Condor Bushcraft knife a few years ago. It works great for all kinds of stick whacking. I keep it with my kindling and use it whenever I’m building a fire. Different blade and handle and it is awesome. I would rather not cut vegetables with mine though.
I don't know if the Space Force knife is any good, but it makes me laugh every time I see it. :)
I'm just impressed your work bench is level to within 0.005 degrees
I'm a big Condor fan from back when they were seriously inexpensive for the quality. The Condor Low Drag is one of my favorite real-use knives. Perfect design for all around outdoor use for a medium-large knife.
I too had lots of Condors before the prices increased, good designs.
Yes, but also this is one of the brands that got me in the habit of buying too many knives LOL
Great users for beating up around the yard and stuff.
Same, them and the inexpensive Cold Steel and Ontario stuff. I have a lot of all those brands. The Condor Bushlore, Swamp Romper, and especially the Hudson Bay have been some of my most used knives.
Yeah, the most disappointing thing is that their quality control seems to have noticeably declined while prices have increased. I’m reluctant with Condor purchases now, sadly.
@@brawndothethirstmutilator9848 I would agree that Condor remains a little iffy on QC, at least compared to Cold Steel, but I think they're better than they used to be. Probably compared to Ontario which can be a bit shoddy especially with grind angles and sharpness. I like Ontario but I have a few that essentially had to completely reprofile the edge since they came with a 75 degree edge hah.
Nice javelin cast!
" A little bit less alive". So like the edge on a Huusk knife.
Hey! I just realized one of my comments got called out in the fancy lad axe video... I've been noticed! This one is for ye olde algos.
As someone who's handled most of the mountain pass series thanks to my work, I gotta say I like them. The only issue I got with them are their sheaths. They just feel cheap or really thin.
I’m curious, beyond look or feel have you had any durability issue with them?
My low drag sheath is really nice! Hard to fault it actually 😁👍🇦🇺
Looks very much like an upgraded, nicer version of the 7" Old Hickory knives my cousins, uncles, dad , friends, (pretty much anyone I knew who hunted, camped or did any sort of outdoor activity) & myself of course used back as a youth & young man. I wouldn't mind getting one of these. I would probably take that primary grind a bit higher with my belt grinder though.
On a side note: I noticed you didn't use your new carbon steel pan while you were playing about being a chef making that tasty & wholesome looking meal.
This is what I like to see-a camp knife that's roughly equally good at all the things you'd be likely to do in a camp. Because God bless all our bushcrafting friends, but if you're spending one night in the woods, never mind more, you're probably going to want some dinner. This knife can make dinner and, if you insist, baton too.
3mm thick blade, is the maximum I would go for a scandi edge knife. In my opinion, that's why Morakniv are considered the best bushcraft knives out there!
Who is considering Morakniv knives as the best bushcraft knives? Maybe the best budget option but not the best bushcraft knife. To state this it also makes no sense as everyone has different preferences. I personally don't like Scandi ground knives that much...BTW. I live in the near of Mora in Sweden.
@@Robert.Northwoods Mors Kochanski, Cody Lundin, Dave Canterbury, also all the other survival/bushcraft instructors who do not try to push their, or other knives (marketing) All these, including me. Now, if your opinion, has come out after watching too many TH-cam marketing videos, but you ignore, that they all try to make more money, then you are 100% right, that we all have different opinions. However, people I mentioned, all are considering Moras, as the best bushcraft knives.
PS We all own thousands of $ in knives. from Martiini, to 400$ custom and even more than that. Ferarri is also a great car, however, all people buy 4X4 for the outdoors, and Toyotas for their family..
@@greekveteran2715 yes, all of them have used these knives and they recommend them as a budget entry....except maybe Mors. This is about marketing....and Morakniv is good with it.
Pete you are looking healthy as fuck, well done mate the country agrees with you
Own a few Condor knives now. Only one of them ever came remotely sharp. I think for the price point they could do better. Condor Plan A is a beast if you can still find one.
Great video, great music
Love condor knives. They’ve got that rustic charm and this one seems perfect as a well rounded general purpose blade. PS .. I fully endorse spear kills
u should make a cooking show video as well, u cook well, what was that spray u used on the food? also good knife
Nice knife collection......
That strop is tiny Pete..LOL
Nice throw ! LOL
Their big leaf blade 1095 is an insanely good deal. I use their 25$ neck knife for edc.
That Artak, or similar word?
@@adods9824 simple skeleton blade in a kydex sheath. Easy neck deployment access.
No no, the big leaf blade! Artak, or similar? U like that one?@@adcaptandumvulgus4252
Damn the dish looks delicious
Condor knives are the real deal for the money. I'm an expat in Canada and they are a better price over here or better again in the usa.
The music during the sharpening montage gave me a migraine
lol loved the troy but you threw in there.
That soundtrack early in the video, is it from Banjo-Tooie? Sounds really familiar!
You should check out the Australian maker Forged Hunters knives . Very good value for the Aussie dollar. I bought two of his choppers.
Can't find any info anywhere ... ? :-(
Not too into the Mountain Pass simply because I don't like the way that it looks. I like how you showcased it's slicing ability, that's pretty capable for a knife of that size. I have 4 Condor fixed blades and I love all of them. All came paper slicing sharp however I did re-profile two of them to an edge angle leaning more towards slicey like you did.
Definitely takes some influence from the Green River and Old Hickory butcher's knives. As much as I like the look of this knife, I'd have to buy an Old Hickory (OKC) 7025 18cm (30cm overall) Butcher's knife in 1095. It isn't quite as thick (2.45cm) but the price is damned fine at $23.95 Aussie dollars.
OMG I just noticed the BRICKARD HERITAGE COLLECTION
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the FF music
That chicken sallad looks very tasteful.
I'm just here for the 🥔🥔🥔 content.
Great video as usual! Did you grow the yams/sweet potatoes?
I thought "eh, Henry Cavill is review knives!" Wanna audition for the new Superman Role? Who knows?
Really tempted by this one... but the sheath is a little chinsy for what i want :x
#PodLyfe
Nice bowsers, perfect gig econerry work pods
Good Gravy
"Great poop knife" Brickie stickers please
Wow!
I've just enjoyed watching your M7 vs. Apocalypse vid. Have you ever been tempted by the beautiful and monstrous and fairly inexpensive OKC Bushcraft Woodsman? It always puts a smile on my face! I'd very much like to get your opinion ... unless you don't rate it, in which case I'll unsubscribe because I've bought one! : )
Just curious if you'd heard any opinions on the Off-Grid Knives Camp Cleaver? I've considered getting one to go with the CJRB Silax for camp food prep.
condors always like 85% done imo. theyre good on a budget for people that can finish them up and maintain em themselves.
yes that is what i do, and then they become really great and the way i want them.
Might be the perfect knife for my son's grandpa 🤔 I've never owned a condor. The length puts it at Prather war bowie length and since I have large hands it should fit like my Prather.
My son's grandparents on his mother's side are both Salvadoran and his grandpa's hands are about my size. The sheath honestly looks exact like traditional Salvadoran machete sheaths in the construction style and obviously material. Might have to get two
1:38 bout gave me a heart attack lol
I had just let my dogs out before watchin the vid, and thought they got in a fight with a coyote or something.
Crisis Averted.
3mm, .118 thick, a little under 1/8th inch, .125 makes a great slicer, but I'd be very careful on splitting wood with it as I see you were. Also for sticky snaps a bit of wax from a candle works pretty good and it will get looser soon enough, probably plated steel.
My current go-to batoning knife is a SOG in .125" 7cr, and it's been fine, good even. The edge has never chipped, or even rolled, and I've also twisted and pryed it out when it was stuck fully expecting it to break.
I don't have a ton of experience with 1095. Are you genuinely telling me that 1095 wouldn't hold up to what my $20 7cr Chinese SOG will, or is your experience more based on reading forums than using knives?
@@CNYKnifeNerd I have made knives since 1992 and I'll stand by what I said. 1095 is a simple high carbon steel, the number tells you what it's composed of, .95% carbon, same as many steels like O1 or 440C. If you're Chinesium steel doesn't break it's because it is only around Rc56-58 hard and .70% carbon. At the same hardness 1095 would be fine for batoning, but at Rc60+ I'd be careful using it for splitting wood unless it was thicker because it isn't just hardness that causes brittleness. Higher carbon 1095 if not heat treated right will have what is called retained austenite and that is what can cause brittleness, that and its shape. I would guess your knife isn't hollow ground, not the best shape for splitting wood, would get stuck a lot. Ever slice carrots with a hollow grind?
Your 7Cr14MoV can be heat treated much harder than they typically do and it should be, but mass produced knives are seldom maximized to their best parameters.
Because it is lower carbon at .70% and has a small .2% more or less of vanadium its grain structure will be very fine, that is what small amounts of vanadium does, it doesn't start making vanadium carbides in that high Cr matrix until it is at least 2.00% V. The low carbon content will also prevent the formation of too many chromium carbides which would also make it brittle.
I tell people if they want to split wood a hatchet works a lot better than using a knife to do it, but if they want me to make a thin knife I'll use 14C28N which is very tough, far surpassing 7Cr and especially 1095, if made from a high carbon steel I'd make it out of 15N20 a high nickel steel which is what they make bandsaw blades for sawmills. Very tough can also use L6, but it's not usually available thin enough.
FYI I also used to be the heat treater for a large machine shop among my other duties. Before I went to work there I had only ever HT 3 steels O1, 440C and D2. I started making knives using a charcoal forge and O1. I only use O1 with the .20% vanadium, restricts grain growth better.
@@MountainFisheras an experienced heat treater, what do U think of TOPS' heat treater treating by eye, eye balling the steel to judge when the heat treatment is done? Is that acceptable? I've lost confidence in my TOPS knives since seeing that happening inside their factory on a YT clip 😫👎🇦🇺
There's a sound at 1:40 that's like "HELP MEEEEEEE"
lol it'd probably make a fine poop-knife, but ultimately i think i'd use a lengthy, slender and stainless fillet knife for poop purposes. in H1 steel! i might've finally found a good use for that stuff.
Is that music Princess Chelsea?
Where can i find this dope ass background soundtrack? Makes me boogie like no tomorrow.
These songs are from Final Fantasy OST ;)
I enjoy my Condor Bisonte as my camp knife, more practical
I love it, I cut myself when sharpening too 😝
the Condor blades are allways clearcoated even the edges, just use some aceton and steelwool and paper. they gunk upp stones and strops. And the long handle is for more power when chopping, holding further back. That has been fashion a long time now. many sheats is of bader quality these days, maybe it is the c19 thing and delivering of raw materials. The ESEE 6 is a very small survival knife, the Junglas is a survival knife, the 6 with the stupid finger choil thing takes away too much of the best and usable edge. It is too small to need a choil in the first place because it is not a chopping blade.
I love and despise the music, just as I love and despise myself. -Gollum
You should do a podcast with the dbk boys lol
16:05 I’d argue the flexy flat stock scandi Condor at 50-55 RC is more “durable” than the thin tipped flat ground Esee 6 at 55-57 RC.
Today in the US on Amazon the Condor is $104, Esee 6 is $131, Esee 6HM is $118, and the BK7 is $112. The 6HM has by far the best sheath, so if knife/sheath/price are the top 3 priorities thats the pick.
Also, the Terävä Skrama 200 and Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140 are excellent hard-use indestructible options, and if sharpened correctly* they can be kept razor sharp in the field with only a double sided strop (Tormek paste on one side, bare smooth leather on the other)
*Using large flat diamond hones, remove the machine marks and zero the scandi edge, switch to 3M honing paper stuck to glass, work up to 1500 grit, strop it with Tormek paste.. keep stropping a tiny convex into the edge until you can pound it through a pine 2x4 without any dings appearing. Always keep the scandi flat on the strop.. never ever raise it up onto the edge or else it’ll round over too blunt. A zero-scandi cuts wood - and everything else - better, but its too delicate and “dives” into wood when only a shave/featherstick is wanted.. a tiny convex greatly increases durability and allows for greater control.
That method would apply to this Condor as well.
I’m thinking with a little more time from release this Condor will drop to $84 or so. Often happens with their lower price point offerings.
For the same money I have an old hickory (leather grip and palm swell), a condor terrasaur and an opinel 9 all of about the same steel 1095. I think condor is missing the price point on this one.
I have 2 Old Hickory 14 inchers great machete
