The beauty of Kilimanjaro, which loses every day the snow that crowns it. Time undoes it as it undoes our lives. In my loneliness and my slow deathbed, I say goodbye.

The film, as a film, is excellent. The jarring aspect is the hunting for game sequences - given today's response to such things. It is obviously about Hemingway's life. No wonder he travelled so much, to seek inspiration for writing. The central dilemma? Writing or his gorgeous wife, played by Ava Gardner. Often, one partner has to give way to the other, with unhappy outcomes.
I've only ever seen stills (studio stills) of Ava Gardner, and never understood why everyone was so enamored of her. Seeing her in action, she is much more appealing.
@@anurag684 No, she did many movies. It was Hollywood who used her and spat her out. So many actresses like her in those days were contracted to one big studio and had to do all the movies that came their way. Once they hit their 40s though the studios stopped offering them any roles and had their contracts terminated. Ava Gardner was also considered 'difficult' because she questioned some of the roles that were given to her - she was tired of playing the 'femme fatale' role all the time. She wanted to do something more serious but her ravishing beauty was a curse for her career.
@@MTMF.london I know she was in several movies. But how many movies were good ? She was a good actress and had a great screen persona. She never got good characters
I remember seeing this show as a teen in the '70s. It was, then, promoted as Hemingway's autobiography. It was unimpressive then, as now. Casa Blanca, Hitari, African Queen, Sahara, Out of Africa, Legend of the Lost, etc. are much better flicks about Africa. It's sad to remember Eva Gardner later in her life (perhaps this motion picture documents her real-life descent into alcoholism and premature death).
@@pattimaeda6097 There's always some asswipe in the comment section rolling their eyes at 'geezers' because they have a heart the size of a chipmunk's balls
This was based on a short story about a dying man with regrets but the writers seem to have incorporated material from Hemingway’s novels, which were somewhat autobiographical. If it’s boring, that’s because Hemingway loved meaning, but not enough to truly seize it through all his womanizing, alcohol, hunting, and machismo. We think we see through his type now, but nah! Hemingway was best trying to express the nobility of those who, because they were materially destitute were more rich in meaning of life, such as in Old Man and the Sea, The Pearl, For Whom the Bell Tolls.
Hemingway always saw himself as the champion of the wretched of the world. Yet when fellow writer Dos Passos wanted to denounce the red atrocities in Spain that had nothing to envy those of the nazis & fascists on the other side, Hemingway denounced him to the reds & Dos Passos had to leave Spain.
@@Charlesputnam-bn9zy The "Republicans" were really just communist losers who did things like torturing nuns to death. Yet all we hear about is Picasso's Guernica.

Africa was so beautiful back then.
Despite the population.
My brother worked in Chad. He said it was beautiful.
TY for this download @Film Detective. We all appreciate it very much! sheila
Timelles great movie !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💖 Thanks for upload .
Hello Mirjana,
How are you doing ?
I don’t remember the movie. I’m going to enjoy it.
Edit: it was long. Not boring.
Grait Beauty like Ava Gardner is borne once in 100 years❤️🌹👑
A wonderful classic, thanks so much
I loooove Gregory Peck!!!
That's my home place can see the mountain from our balcony 😀
un grand merci from France, Film Detective
Ava Gardner was so beautiful.
@Ted Carruthers she was my 3rd cousin ,my grandmother Mildred Gardner never wanted to talk about her the only thing she said was "she was a hussy".
@@maryparent9573 you should post that as a comment, hilarious 😀😀😀
I always thought I’d seen this movie but no. I couldn’t help but think that this is how the rhinos went extinct in the wild. Well done movie.
I'm a sucker for every old movie that starts with a gangrenous wound.
Who isn't?
Ava been so beautiful!
Hello Tanzilya,
How are you doing ?
Love this beautiful movie!🎥❤
Thank u sooooo very much🙏🙏🙏really enjoyed it! AWESOME! 👍👍👍👌👌👌
Фильм шедевр ! А с такими актёрами и не могло быть по другому.
Gregory peck - such a hunk, tall, dark, and handsome- And a gentleman w/o scandals ( I can’t confirm ) but a find and rare specimen .
Utterly Gorgeous - lucky wife (the second one)
TRUE wowza on Gregory.
He met his second wife and totally was under her spell until he died. He was the epitome of TDH. Tall Dark and Handsome.
@@Agapy8888 Peck said Audrey Hepburn and Ava were his favorite co-stars.
@@lray1948 Roman Holiday!!one of the best!!!
The film entered the public domain in 1980 when its copyright wasn’t renewed.
Susan Hayward and ava Gardner were two of the most beautiful women ever born on this planet, cant find women like that now !!
These are when movies had class and the acting was first-rate.
Unfortunately NO such movies nowadays & brilliant novelist like
Ernest Hemingway.
Always some geezer in the comment section making the comment about “ they don’t make movies like this now”🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

////////////the Pearl was by Steinbeck
@@alecfoster5542 sorry Mr. Foster,
I've posted about the reds/anarchists on the Republican side who wasted the Carmelites convents, killing the living nuns & unearthing the corpses of the dead ones
and exposing them standing up.
Yet one Spaniard had the audacity to say that they are just manikins exposed in a museum !
Yeah an open air museum in 1936.
The reds & anarchists happily shot priests as in a gallery & boasted about it.
The tragedy of Spain was tat both sides were supported by plagues who would soon join hands.
@@Charlesputnam-bn9zy Very well put!
The orchestra music when Ava and Gregory are kissing was superb.
