I finally got my hands on the USS Halford and decided to dive right in with it.
In this video you will see my captain and recommendations for one, modules and my first impression of the ship.
I will say, my initial impressions are a bit different than my later impressions but there will be more videos on Halford so do not worry ;)

just another way to confirm why i quit playing the game.
Next idea; a dd with homing torps🤔
That Ending just felt dirty
Destroyer/carrier hybrid. Waiting for the submarine/carrier I400 class.

Not only 4....minimal 12...4 in air, 8 loose in combat :-D
The USS Halford a Fletcher class modified into a light scout with 1 scout aircraft which in the game is changed to a squadron lol.
Single Kingfisher changes to a flight of fantasy float-Bearcats...
And had the plane removed before she deployed due to stability issues.
Halford must have had a secure container. Those planes had to come from somewhere....oh WG's backside.
Nope a real metal ship but it had single spotter plane but the US junked and put it back as it should have been.
The stupidity of this game never ceases to amaze me
But the dutch ships Are okay?
What next? Carriers that can drop BB's anywhere on the map? Wargaming have totally lost their minds..
Benham with a bit worse conceal and less torps, but with planes.
Being able to scout an area for DDs and radar cruisers seems like a good strength. Do that, send your planes to a nearby ship for additional damage and move in with safety. Or sail away from danger.
I hate planes with a passion, but I could see people enjoying this ship. And remember when people said ships like Hyuuga, Harekaze II or Minegumo were going to be thrash ?
As long as you don't throw away 75% of your HP to a radar cruiser you knew was there, in the first 2 minutes of the game, to try to get your torpedoes away...
Halford. Has the funny 12km torps, slow but really rocking damage.
You can launch F8F bearcats only if you find cover. You can spot the carrier for carrier sniping.
To be fair, this ship is not entirely made up. In real life, the USS Halford was fitted with a plane that is used for weather scouting, but not for attacking. Just like in game, it lost a gun and torpedo rack. It proved ineffective and was later removed, with the guns and torpedo rack being put back on.
ive been playing the halford intensively for some months now and i actually like to play it a lot. Yes it is kinda weak when it comes to raw damage but its very fun for its strategic posibilities. Yes you go back and forth between torps an planes but you can actually hold planes and you can have "saved" an squadron just after you launched one, so you dont have to use planes ASAP, you can wait and you wont be wasting time. i speced my halford with a captain that has torps and the extra aa + fire rate to be less usless defending my self against dds and cvs, and i use the aa consumable too, and actually shoot planes down, specially if you "ambush" the planes. The planes are really good at finishing bbs and cruisers, the torps are 13.5 km so you can play "safe" most of the time and as you saw, you can have 1 hp and still be effective

I’ve had pretty good games with this thing in ranked. Longer range fast reloading torps and planes has more
Impact in those smaller games. Otherwise in randoms, it’s allot stronger late game when you can use the planes to finish off low health ships.
Crazy. But it does open up an additional method for DDs to help with spotting. Might be useful in battles where it comes down to maintaining caps to win with the ability to spot ships 3 caps away trying to flip a capture point and being able to reset them with plane rockets.
It's certainly not a brawling DD and needs to stay in the shadows to be effective and survive.
This ship sacrifice everything for the planes. Funny enough, she's quite balance because plane spotting and plane damage both unavoidable.
Can't wait to see how soon we'll get the first sub flying planes...!
Now i get it. WG is slowly changing WoWs to WoWp so they finally said that game was a success.
Every fire you set was immediately put out.
That's y you learn to time it, launch torps, hit with planes fire put out, torps hit, flood sticks.
Or reverse that let torps hit enemy uses DCP then you light perma fire.
I got one from a crate a while ago, I've used it once
Funnily enough the US was not the first to do this, back in WW1, Germany put a catapult plane on one of their torpedo boats but I don’t recall which one.

I have my spotting damage record in Halford. It racks up over time
Even the actual US Navy during WW2 didn't like putting a scout plane on a DD

Just wish they had put an ACTUAL spotter plane on it like the real metal ship. Yes I know it was a failure and was converted back, but with new CV rework one of the new spotter planes might work.
Skill and good decision making made that match happen. the ship looks like a hot mess. who thought up a DD carrier platform?!
The Brilliant Minds at WG ...DDs really hate the CVs, lets give them planes and maybe We can get them to like them! That is their balance plan?
Patrol ship...Testing Use of Planes, BEfore we got our Carriers up. Fletcher class. Saw Action for 3 years then To Navel Inaction patrol fleet.

How does it park 4 airplanes on a Destroyer hull? And yes, it will suck, cause CV's and aerial spotting is so underpowered... And you get guns, and torpedo's? This will have some insane skillcap.
This would have been much better with Tromp "fire and forget" style planes.
You spot with plaines no atteck with them...
So Kearsarge needs this giant, tumor like flight deck to basically launch the same number of planes slower than this dd with a single catapult...

Those planes need torpedoes... Don't attack... Just loiter around spotting BB's, CB's DD's...
the plane spotting is annoying, that's really what is going for it. Seen quite a few players sit in smoke and 'fly' which isn't a great move because smokes are torp magnets, and I've killed quite a few like that. Otherwise underpowered, but given how important spotting is and how quickly the planes come back up I imagine it would be good in a div, or ranked perhaps if for some reason you aren't allowed radar.
At this moment this game is running on gimmicks. Hybrid BB's, hybrid DD's...
I'm waiting for a hybrid submarine with battleship guns.
Well seeing as there was that historic French sub with a turret I would not put it past them to try…although that Sub in practice did not function well as it disappeared during a voyage (I assume it sunk).

Fun fact: Japanese Navy used several large submarines with watertight hangar for a scout/attack plane. Therefore submersible CV is not out of question in WoWs LOL

It's now 18 months since I quit WoWs. I'm so pleased I did. Still enjoy watching the odd game though. ;)

I have no played but saw your game and looks like a new developer recruited by wargaming and told him/her to code DD features.
You can't be close to the enemy, because in the moment you pop up the planes, enemy knows exactly where you are - you already were blind-fired because of it, any skilled shooter will use it with ease. So you really were expected to chill out with Delaware...
Solo is weak. I play it only in division. And I spot for my cruiser the DD. But there’s one nasty thing about it. I have a mod that displays the rpf on minimap. So.... when I fly those planes I see where that enemy DD is. Yeah 😂

this ship seems so stupidly weak, yet able to ruin any other stealth ship's game in a wink. that's what it is all about now nowadays. ruin someones game completely, then die or sail around aimlessly because the ships purpose is fulfilled
worst thing about this ship is that gameplay is incredibly boring. at least CVs you almost constantly have planes in the air for the early part of the battle, this you need to wait between plane reload and torp reload. Flambass in a DD should NEVER be boring
What did you expect from WG? If there is a way to screw up something they WILL find a way. 85 seconds to reload one torpedo launcher when it's faster to reload three on other destroyers is nuts as well. But the question is, Are you surprised? Nope, didn't think so.

Ah yes WoWs solution to OP airplanes and aircraft carriers is to just give aircraft to all player types so everyone can enjoy the fun. If they haven’t already I’d put money on them doing this to the Japanese sub line in the near future. Clearly this is easier than just fixing the game.
You should not do torpedoes on that dd because they are weak and worthless so building it for guns is more worth it

Its probably for the best you cant hit DDs with the planes. Being able to spot them, for free, while keeping yourself safe, completely slams the scales in your favor. Imagine a ship that did this but could also hurt the DD too, good thing WG loves the loli botes too much to subject them to such- waitaminute
looks a bit like a small version of Kid
It's the same hull than Kidd but Kidd is much more powerful with the heal and 5 fletcher guns in tier 8
It's a Fletcher, not a Benson. And, NO, WG is not the only one stupid enough to come up with this. The U.S. Navy did in WWII. Look it up.
Sub that outrun dds. DDs that launch entire squadrons of aircraft. Carriers with lower detection than cruisers.
WG have incredibly low standards in game design.
She's a weak ship, can confirm. Good games in that ship requires finely balanced MM (in your own favour ofc lol), and that shit lines up perfectly for your rotation. Poor concealment, low HP and only 4 pea shooters... Why play that DD when you have other, superior DDs to choose from?

Halford is a Fletcher with a plane instead of one torpedo rack and a gun. It's the dumbest idea there is (hybrid DD) and hopefully weegee learned from how ass this ship was and won't do another of these abominations again.
One hybrid ship nr 1 the other hybrid ship dead last, and he had the ability to do massive damage with main battery between flights. Skillz difference. Looks like a terrible ship tbh.

Why is it , you all need to have your faces on screen dont get it ? is it a complex or a hero type era that needs to bee seen ,dont need to see anything but what being talked about then i see why, your takling to me. ,but in like game play , you dont need a face to look at while watching a game play.

I was looking forward to this review but after 10+ minutes of nonstop bitching about how bad it is while making misplay after misplay it was no longer a review just a whine festival. You want it to be exactly like every other DD in the game how mundane, play to its strengths instead same as every other ship in the game man. Just because it doesn’t suit your play style isn’t the dole meta yo define a review by. 🤦🏼♂
