that's the principe of the razzle dazzle camo, you break the ship look to make it harder for telemetrics to range (which doesn't work if it's stereoscopic telemetry)

That was all normal pen plus some over pen in the St-Vincent clip at the beginning, no citadels. Source: I was the the St-Vincent.
One more downside to the ship - the ship's camo kind of makes it look like it's broken/lightly folded in the middle and it really fucks with my head xD

Carriers were not 'historically a part of naval combat.' They were what ENDED naval combat. They were instrumental in destroying the most powerful BB's on both side of the conflict, in the decision to not build any new ones and in creating a whole new form of naval warfare. This is why they should not be in the game at all.
But, but...the money.
Not at all. Carriers and planes have been around since WW1 but they peaked in WW2 and beyond. What actually ended surface ships is the range and power of missle systems. Submarines and smaller vessels could do the same work, at even more range than big gun ships, while smaller and less cost if lost. If we are going to have up to 1960s, which plenty of vessels in this game would have been built in if the "what ifs" happened, you just going to have to deal with planes and CVs.
Yep I agree with the exception of carriers that got ambushed at close range - that generally got sunk. They ended what WoWs was about, and basically ended WoWs in the same way...
@@solace6633 LOL. Prince of Wales and and Repulse were sunk by CV's. Yamato and Musashi were sunk by CV's. Bismarck was spotted and crippled and torped and bombed by CV's. The list of US BB's damaged and crippled by CV's is too long to print here. These are just the examples off the top of my head. CV's are what ended BB's, which is what this game - and this discussion - is about (and btw, nice attempt at reframing it, I never spoke of 'surface ships').
I agree with you that as time went on, it only got worse for surface ships in general but to say that subs and smaller ships could do what CV's did is beyond ridiculous.
In WW1 planes had no power yet against ships. Then there was nearly a quarter century of no major wars by which time CV's had evolved to a degree that no one understood until time came to test them in battle, and they proved to have completely replaced BB's as the heart and power of the fleet. Not missiles, not subs, not any other craft.
POW and Repulse were sunk by land-based aircraft. Apart from that I mostly agree with you. No point in building a Montana class BB if it can be sunk by an Essex class CV 200 miles away. CV’s are still very effective at projecting power which is why the USN still spends billions on them. A SSN is more effective weapon only if you don’t use it…
CVs in WOWs reduce the playing enjoyment for everyone except the CV player who has a completely disproportionate impact on the game. I think that’s the salient point.

if you know roughly where the DD is, you can start the strafing run before they're actually spotted to be able to have time to hit them.
Yey more carriers! Great! ffs..... You cannot really argue that carriers were part of naval engagements fought within gunrange - or at least only briefly and in limited roles (Glorious and Taffy3 carriers getting sunk for example). If I see this and I'm in a BB it's getting focussed.

I mean its real design by the Soviets, its project X 1930-ish design. Its got alaska size but baltimore displacement. Also project X supposedly have planes and hangar for those planes, and a midget sub facility and can launch midget sub for scout. I still wonder how the soviet wanna build it without it having capsized, or sunk before sailing 🤣
From my experience, more aircraft = less ships willing to push, even dd

Oh yeah, being on the receiving end of those rockets planes is not fun either, around 5-10k dmg even when angling + fires + get spotted and shot at

Kinda wish we could get a version of this without the planes, BUT with like 5 torpedo launchers per side. It'd be very dumb, but also a just a bit funny.
When I first saw the title of this video, the notion of rocket planes didn't even enter my mind, and I was 100% ready to accept that WeeGee had actually added a ship with rocket pods as an armament.
It'll happen sooner or later anyway.

I know this is off topic but, I was just taking a re-look at your aiming guide from 3yrs ago and wondering if it is still applicable, mainly whether the games auto-aim and the minimap dot are still as out of sync or has WG gotten them closer. Thanks for the content.
How good is citadel protection on the rear? I feel like with that massive launch deck anything hitting the stern will detonate before it gets to the citadel, right?
Why do we have planes in a ship game
Because World of Warplanes was a failure and WG still wants the players' money. Just goes to show that given the choice, there's a large number of gamers who will choose the game without real (in this case plane vs. plane) PvP action and where their "opponents" can't fight back in any meaningful way.
Because WG does not have any idea about what's going on in the game and there's this data analyst who is very convinced that cvs are weak light cruiser are very op and cvs have to be buffed even more and planes will solve everything and make the game better...and then there is this demented part of the playerbase who just wants more planes who have no lives whatsoever and just want to be in-game kings just cause they couldn't do anything in real life and do they use cvs and planes to crap on other players without any repercussions
@@MartialEmperor6344 Anyone who looks at a ship game and thinks "needs more planes" needs to be institutionalized, not given a job.
My best guess is they had contracts with employees over at World of Warplanes and couldn't easily fire them when that game foundered, so they brought them over to WoWs, and now they've established themselves within the social framework of the team.

You should play the Chikuma II, I got it for free out of the Golden Week event and it seems very, very strong as it has all the utility.
Got a few WTF moments when I ran into this "test"-ship on the EU server. Didn't know anything about this ship and I was really surprised about the firepower of this ship and also about it's hybrid capabilities.
At least the few times I can recall it was also hard to kill. Maybe they changed the armor?
When you play this game alot you need to remember to push back againts confirmation bias, I've played this game for a long time (not very good) and I can say its really easy to see somthing you think is OP and go "Look at that!" when somthing good happens that confirms what you think and then ignore it and say nothing in a moment when it gets counter played or fails to work right, its a really wide spread issue. Like how you go off on how unfair the ship is dispite the fact they failed to kill you and remove you from the game and having to deal with you in the late game because of those failures, then later around 12:34 when your air attack you think is so op fails to be op you just say nothing, like you only really notice moments when you get a flat side hit on a ship and not the ones where they turn towards you.
As for that guy when you said "would have" gotten some heals off before you killed him, he was sitting still in a game with an active Komissar and on low health so he should know he will be next, he could have done alot but he did nothing, thats not on you, its on him.
To my mind you did well with a little luck and alot of skill, the fact they ended up with little AA is again the situation they found themselves with, they could have been heavy on AA but thats just too dam bad for them tbh
My thoughts on CVs as someone who dabbles in them.
Sure a rework would be nice, but what they have planned will be worse for the game. Oh we wont get spotted as much, but CVs will be able to strike faster and beat down larger ships faster. Yay just what we want. Just make it minimap spotting and call it a day.
What would also be useful/impactful is modern AA which will never happen. Modern AA would be the most effective change and would also the biggest rework CVs would ever see in the game. May be easier to remove them at this point for how much this would effect the gameplay of t8 and up.
It is as you said an arcade game and the goal is fun while maintaining a level of balance. Unfortunately the scale is tipped in favor of CVs (and subs but thats a problem for later.)
Maybe one day we will get a proper solution or watch the game eventually fade away.

Komi is the better choice cause dd rail guns which can cit BBs and something else which I don't like but yeh get komi if u want a steel ship
While you can easily spot a Jager with the planes since it has literal tier 3 or 4 levels of AA, you will be hard pressed to spot anything for long with proper tier X AA. These are Nakhimov planes with very, very little HP so they will die very quickly.

I don't think so. I'm pretty sure the only changes were giving it petro AP pen angles, though I could be wrong.
I tried running reload for a few battles and it was just miserable. I had one decent game and all the others I was just perma-spotted by DDs and CVs while I got farmed by BBs and BCs who were outside of my range. Especially with the camping meta range mod seems like the better option, especially with how good the ballistics are.
Hope this cv change has a lot of un nerfings to, sure that jager has no AA but you try that on any other tx dd and see how it goes, try it on a halland with a t8 CV and see how that goes. he sees you 10km out he can hit you with flak 6km out you need 4+ km to attack him, you see him at 2 km ... GL with that.. then you have issues like if you cant see the ship that fired it you cant see the flak , or the way a dd can sit in a smoke screen and without giving away any positional information shoot down planes with perfect accuracy.
I like i think most CV players are for the loss of our spotting its been a poisoned chalice that has cost us so much at every turn.

They were a part indeed but they didn't have unlimited and invincible planes and subs couldn't go more than 20 kts
I really wish WG would experiment more with solutions to the cv v surface ship interactions. Maybe a nighttime mode with no cvs (since CVs didn’t perform night strikes during this era) in a similar manner to the naval battles at Guadalcanal. Maybe giving cvs their own mode where they are free to dominate the skies against other cvs, sinking fleets of bots in the process. Idk what the solution looks like exactly but that Jagar clip cements the idea that there’s something fundamentally broken about “CV/surface interaction”
I don’t think it’s something you can just patch out into a balanced state, its like starting from a false premise: everything following it would be incorrect. I love my cvs, but even I don’t like playing them against surface players, it feels unfair and it certainly doesn’t help when everyone dog-piles on the cvs for playing how WG intended.
Idk man, some times i REALLY wish WG had some proper competition with naval combat, but until there’s another ship game that doesn’t feel like a coordinate-mapping mini game with fun visuals or an actual hour-long scenario where you occasionally pull the trigger at little dots on your screen (because the scale is actually correct) before getting nuked from a single player in an airplane. Until theres another proper arcade ship shooting game we are stuck with whatever wg wants to feed us, which for a long time now has been literal dogshit.

The entire design and functionality of this game is counter intuitive to aircraft in this game but they just keep adding even more planes.

Getting harder and harder to talk myself into playing this game that's been going/heading/anti-progressing in the wrong direction for years now.
The zeitgeist of the airplane is what ended the age of the gunboat. It is perfectly fair to be unhappy with them, and WG needs to think carefully about what direction they want to take the game in
Bro WG is now introducing AP skip bombers to the game and it's confirmed in the next or the one after the next patch...and they will be implemented on a richtofin copy cv Werner Voss or something..

an other OP schip in the game that almost nobody seems to talk about is the Shchors. it should be taken the spotter plain away or moved up to tier 8. When I play the shchors it feel only fair when I'm in a tier 9 battle and I always wondered how it would preform against tier 10.

Kommissar is a high skill floor ship that requires technical mastery on cruisers to make use of its assets correctly. Its the type of ship you get when you are tired of traditional cruiser play and want a challenge.
The fact the meta fanatics in my clan don't like it is enough for me to get it. Tho I wanted it anyway.
edit: is it going to be available in the next update? Patch says it is both in bundle & on its own, other CC claimed the ship on its own releases in 13.5.
Just wanted to note, there is no russian ship line in the game. Soviet is not synonym to russian. Oh, and the ship looks nice, tnx for the video
The lower tier ships are from the Imperial Russian Navy. Idk if you consider that as a "ship line", but there certainly are Russian ships in the game.

The way this plays is like a giant Donskoi. It's fast, has got 12 punishing guns, long range, and of course torpedoes. Oh and poor armor lol.
Poor armour is not a lot of a problem cause just like gouden it has to sit behind cover and spam planes and that's wht I have seen players only do with it..the playerbase is as demented as WG itself
I wonder if the nerf coming to CVs, taking away the ability to loiter and spot without attacking, will effect Hybrids? This will be a major nerf to this ship also.

1:44 into the video and I can already tell you that wg should just remove the rocket aircraft and improve the armor amidships. It's just another island camper. Find an island, farm with HE, swap to AP for anything that goes fairly broadside, and spam out your rocket aircraft. As much as I want to say that wg is trying to improve the game, they are adding in hybrids, which literally nobody wanted. whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I have too many cruisers at tier 10 that are one-hit-wonders. I'd probably buy it if it was just slightly more tanky. But as things stand with tier 10 play, I'd rather have something like a Napoli or a Michelangelo.

Wrong perks - this ship can have 50mm HE armor Pearsing, so it dont need fiers!
Another High-Dmg-Blow-Up-Cruiser - because why would we want for games to last longer? Higher DPM it is!

11:48 ish, I was in almost the exact same senario. I was in the Marsielle or however you spell that, vs a GK and I opt'd to run north and try and sneak the cap from behind him, betting on my speed boost. I was literally JUST short on points. we were both 1 tick from 1000 points but because he had two caps, he ended out ticking first and won because I was just a little two slow. at the end I managed to cheek citadel him 3 times so that was funny. He just tanked it thought cause he was near full HP. Unfortunate team plus a bad match up kinda screwed me over
Oh, and another thing to mention is that it started 2 vs 1, but my friendly cruiser charged the GK and died. No he didn't have torps so I have no idea what he was thinking. We had all 3 caps at the start as well.
Unfortunately, WG isn't going to honor their discount coupon for this ship! Too sad!!!

Its stupid and not what makes the game better again. Still the ship looks nice but i wish it wouldnt be hybrid. Also a comparison with Zao would be nice. Its hard to believe Zao can compete. I mean one of Zaos own weaknes is slow turret speed. Would love to see a fair comparison between these new fiction ships and the old ones from the game.

I hate this new trend of balancing ships through heals and cooldowns instead of armour. It's worthless being able to 3d print your ship back except in the scenarios where people are actually shooting you.
