It took me months to get rid of probably a dozen mice. I started with live traps ( one to begin with then eventually six ) the live traps were taking so long that they could breed faster than I could catch them so poison it was. I swear I can still occasionally smell a dead mouse in between my ceiling and floor joists somewhere but hey, they're long gone, fabreze is a regular on our shopping list now 😆.

    • @SteveWB

Bleach and Ammonia works well and has for almost 100 years. Must find the living area to kill many at once but the mixture is a deadly gas that works well. Great for sewer rats and gutter rats. While at NYU I asked the rat crew and this is what they use when they locate a nesting area of 500 rats or more. If you find an area with 3-6 holes in the ground, pour the mix in each hole then use water to drown the ones in there choaking but scared to run out.

Hey Steve, Do you still have rat problem? If so, would you be willing to try out a DIY rat poison?
As you are aware, vitamin D3 is a rat poison. You can buy 5000 I.U. vitamin D3 in Walmart for under $10. Each soft gel should be enough to make 11 blocks of rat poison. You mix one 5000 I.U. vitamin D3 with coconut oil (2 oz), oat flour (6 oz), icing sugar (1 oz), boric acid (1 oz, to kill cock roach in case they eat it), wheat flour (1 oz). Make sure you break the soft gel and mix it thoroughly with the rest of the ingredients and make 11 blocks out of it.
I would have done it myself, but I don't have a reliable source of rats/mice. If you do it, please let us know the results.
