    Usually the actual stick gets black dust in it. Because there metal components in the sticks that rub up against a graphite like material. Ive had to take those apart, but be warned its very difficult to put back together, as metal tabs can break on the analog stick.

    TL;DR:
    For minor wear and light drift, yes.
    For actual damage and heavy drift, no.

    I would have loved to see how broken was on the inside the blue neon controller stick, but very good video, it doesn't work always and imo adding that much pressure to the plastics and the screw holes in the long run might not be very good

    despite having to drill the screws out, nearly ripping one of the ribbon connectors, eyeballing the size of the cardboard, and holding the joycon back together with hair-ties; it solved the drift. to anyone doing this at home- FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TYPE OF TRI-WING SCREWDRIVER YOU ARE GONNA RUIN THE SCREW OTHERWISE PLEASE JUST TAKE IT TO A PHONE-REPAIR-SHOP IF YOU DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS. but aside from that, its relatively self-explanatory

    I reccomend using a piece of tape (fold it if it's not thick enough) as cardboard can absorb moisture over time

    • @Kogami
      @Kogami ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Is it okay if I ask specifically what kind of tape? Masking? Cellophane? Duct tape? Just to double check

    • @tomd96
      @tomd96 ปีที่แล้ว

      Masking tape can absorb moisture because it is made out of paper material.
      You can create a 1 mm thick square out of plaplate, a cheap plastic hobby material you can cut using a hobby knife or wire cutters.
      Plastic will be somewhat sturdier than cardboard and apply more pressure. So you may have to be careful. You do not want to bulge the plastic casing.
      Glueing together a couple of layers from a plastic takeaway tub or plastic bottle may have the same effect.
      I am a bit late, though I plan on doing this repair myself after replacing both sticks. I am not sure what the effect of doing this with brand new sticks will have.

    And why do you need to use the cardboard trick method. Because of the R3 and L3 buttons. When you press down on the joy-stick that is what is causing the metal inside to bend. Just don't use the joy-stick as a button and the whole Switch drift mess wouldn't have happened in the first place.
    I'm sure the problem causing the joy-con drift are the R3 and L3 buttons. I've seen a lot of things pointing to this. Just don't press down on the joy-cons/Switch Lite joy-stick and everything should be fine. Something about something bending when pressure is put on it. I read this somewhere. I'm planning on getting a Switch Lite for Christmas so I've been reading up on this.
    It's not just the Switch/Switch Lite. Other controllers with similar buttons have the same thing happen from what I've been reading up online. Maybe this is why some people don't have the problem. They never press down on the control sticks like a button as much as others do or not at all.
    Maybe the stick was never meant to be used as a button. Just don't use it. On any system.
