Usually the actual stick gets black dust in it. Because there metal components in the sticks that rub up against a graphite like material. Ive had to take those apart, but be warned its very difficult to put back together, as metal tabs can break on the analog stick.
TL;DR:
For minor wear and light drift, yes.
For actual damage and heavy drift, no.
i agree
For me it worked with heavy drifting, i put so 3x as much cardboard on top of it that I was barely able to close the pad, but works like a charm
clean it before to see if that helps then does this if none works then it’s bad and prolly is actually broken
" i hope nintendo can hear this "
also nintendo:
"joycon drift isn't real xd"
The fact nintendo could just use a peice of fucking cardboard when producing joycons is amazing
don't stop doing this kind of videos! we really need you. thanks. all the best!
Love to see you back making videos, you are great.👍
Like always. An amazing video! 👍
SO happy about this, thats about £50 for repairs saved
This did the trick! I have a long flight tomorrow, and now 6+ hours will fly by in a flash!
Nice DIY channel you've got here^^ on a more serious note your videos are REALLY good and soooo helpfull
Thank you so much!
I would have loved to see how broken was on the inside the blue neon controller stick, but very good video, it doesn't work always and imo adding that much pressure to the plastics and the screw holes in the long run might not be very good
I've sent the unit to my customer, i guess the conductor film is dying. we cannot fix it using the cardboard method. i spray it with contact cleaner too but it didn't fix the issue.
I have bottle of hand sanitizer in my home, i pushed the top a couple times and put a couple drops in under the rubber and twisted the joystick and that fixed it instantly!
Great video!
uhm when i removed the joystick chel, the shoulder button came off with a spring
You need to clean the analog on the blue joycon aswell
Amazing this fixed my joy cons drift, it was driving me nuts. Such an easy fix, just took me 40 min
Great to hear!
Was it permanent or did u face drifting problem again
@@dem0_o14it’s always worth trying. If you don’t already have the tools, buy the tools and the gulikit stick to install.
But if you do have the tools, this is 100% worth it, and can be done in about 35-40 mins.
Your are the best bro thanx
despite having to drill the screws out, nearly ripping one of the ribbon connectors, eyeballing the size of the cardboard, and holding the joycon back together with hair-ties; it solved the drift. to anyone doing this at home- FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TYPE OF TRI-WING SCREWDRIVER YOU ARE GONNA RUIN THE SCREW OTHERWISE PLEASE JUST TAKE IT TO A PHONE-REPAIR-SHOP IF YOU DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS. but aside from that, its relatively self-explanatory
last word is EPIC!
I reccomend using a piece of tape (fold it if it's not thick enough) as cardboard can absorb moisture over time
Hello! Is it okay if I ask specifically what kind of tape? Masking? Cellophane? Duct tape? Just to double check
Masking tape can absorb moisture because it is made out of paper material.
You can create a 1 mm thick square out of plaplate, a cheap plastic hobby material you can cut using a hobby knife or wire cutters.
Plastic will be somewhat sturdier than cardboard and apply more pressure. So you may have to be careful. You do not want to bulge the plastic casing.
Glueing together a couple of layers from a plastic takeaway tub or plastic bottle may have the same effect.
I am a bit late, though I plan on doing this repair myself after replacing both sticks. I am not sure what the effect of doing this with brand new sticks will have.
Does Somebody know how thicc Nintendo labo card Board is?
Ahh I love the inteo
Did u try applying contact cleaner on the left analog stick?
no.
Does this work on the newer OLED remodels? Also, can you do it on a lite?
Yes it works the same thing but I dont recommend you to follow this guide, it is better to replace the analog stick entirely
This.
Buy a pack then replace
Didn't work for me. I'm waiting on my replacement thumb sticks arriving from ebay.
When mine starts drifting, I just spray contact cleaner under the thumbstick rubber flap and it's good. I've had my switch from launch and only had to do the "fix" twice. And I play with my switch quite often.
contact cleaner does fix the issue easily
Hello i've got a huge drift with my left joy con, did thid method still work with an extreme drift or i need to purchase a new joy con?
Better replace the analog stick
@@sthetixofficial okay thanks
Maybe debris collected under the gasket, you can use compressed air n contactcleaner to see if it helps
otherwise get some analogue spares
By vita stick, do you mean ps vita stick? I have severe drift and am looking for a stick replacement :3
yes vita analog stick. it is better than the switch
@@sthetixofficial But they are not interchangable? For eg to put vitas analog to switch joy con?
And second question - where from get original switch analog. On AliExpress there are no originals..
it is not interchangeable. there are originals. i usually buy stuff from vivi gane store or gamerzone store
Fixed :)
Ciao carissimo, si aprono e si riparano i joycon, non serve cambiarli... 👍🏻🔝
Works!!!
You are welcome.
Hi, I updated to 12.1.0 with Deep Sea as I have updated in the past, now I get. Unable To Start Software . Return To Home Menu and Try Again on all games. Any Help , Thanks
well, i dont know what you did but try deleting the old atmosphere/bootloader/config/ sept before extracting the pack. and I dont use deepsea, i use my own pack, if you need help with deepsea, ask them on their discord channel
@@sthetixofficial I tried what you said and the same issue is still there, after reinstalling atmosphere. I installed deep sea using your instructional each time. What are you using now instead?
deepsea has no sigpatches.

@@sthetixofficial Thank you, Thank You. Its Working Great Now.
Super sekali gan... Thx A lot..
Btw can i put a lil bit glue in cardboard to keep it sticky?
bisa aja kynya.
So, I learned that my 2 JoyCons out of 2 are dead.
Yes a joycon drift fix!
yo yo kai watch fan
@@oli67600 hi
Hey, does this work on Nintendo Switch lite too?
I think it wont
Yes.
Same design.
Taking out the left analogue is even possible w.o. removing the heatshield
can i use glue as a sticking agent?
you can but what for?
doesnt matter, i wanted to stick the cardboard down, turns out i dont need to, my joycon drift is mostly gone now! the red one was hard cus of its extra parts, but the blue one still has slight drift, but its much more barable then before!@@sthetixofficial
I did this fix and yh it worked for a few months of hard playing but the drift did come back
yea. we need to replace the analog stick
I really want to do this but I stripped the screw of one my left joycons
apply crazy glue and immeadietely put in the screwdriver
Pray
unscrew
(Then get rid of the stripped screw instantly)
you can also use contact Spray to fix it
sure. I've did that video last year
Both methods in tandem might yield the best results
will any cardboard do
yes but it is not a recommended way to fix the driting issue
does it work long term
It does not.
@@sthetixofficial why? do you have to replace it after a bit?
Fascinating
bruh
Cardboard itu semacam kardus bang?
yoi.
And why do you need to use the cardboard trick method. Because of the R3 and L3 buttons. When you press down on the joy-stick that is what is causing the metal inside to bend. Just don't use the joy-stick as a button and the whole Switch drift mess wouldn't have happened in the first place.
I'm sure the problem causing the joy-con drift are the R3 and L3 buttons. I've seen a lot of things pointing to this. Just don't press down on the joy-cons/Switch Lite joy-stick and everything should be fine. Something about something bending when pressure is put on it. I read this somewhere. I'm planning on getting a Switch Lite for Christmas so I've been reading up on this.
It's not just the Switch/Switch Lite. Other controllers with similar buttons have the same thing happen from what I've been reading up online. Maybe this is why some people don't have the problem. They never press down on the control sticks like a button as much as others do or not at all.
Maybe the stick was never meant to be used as a button. Just don't use it. On any system.
i never use l3 or r3 and it drifts
WELL SORRY BUT SOME GAMES USE THOSE BUTTONS AND I PLAY THEM
BS.
Drift occurs due to wear.
Only controlers not suceptible utilize hall sensors

tell that to the person who commented 19 mins ago
First
I have 3 years old Switch v1 and never had problems with joycon drift. If you use heavily no wonder there will be a problem.
i dont know about you, but a console is meant to be used heavily.
What kind of stupid dumb comment is this??? Should I buy a console to not play it?
Dumbest comment ever
