- Hello everyone have you ever wondered, do prairie dogs make good pets? Well, in this video that’s what we will be discussing. Many people have seen videos with other people having them as pets. If it is legal in the state you reside in make sure you check out this video to learn some information on these cute little critters. Not only you as the owner will benefit from learning more about this animal, but the animal itself would benefit so they have a good home life and are well taken care of.
Enjoy the video!
Look for Poppy the prairie dog here on youtube. She's litter trained.
She’s not litter trained. She has a couple of places the she uses for that purpose. 😳
Well clothes pile trained, they are just for her. I believe he said she has two spots outside of her cage, which she also use small clothes pile as a toilet 😊
I love poppy and paxton
@@Jesus4Life78I do, too.
I hate it that those adorable, social creatures have to live in a house with humans - I've seen them eat human food, what a shame, can't help it, I would never enslave an animal for a youtube channel
Big ounce was a great pet
Rip big ounce
Yes he was
No he wasn’t. Uncle Ben said as much.
3:40 far right... Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan... Hmmm...maybe it's not Alan?
Steve, Steve, Steve, Steve....
If you know, you KNOW! 😂🤣😅
I never thought people had Prairie Dogs for pets before seeing these videos.
I love prairie dogs. They’re the most fascinating rodents in the whole entire world.❤️😍🥰
We have these in the Texas Panhandle. Ranchers hate them. I’m an artist and I love them and take pics if I see them. Our baseball team are known as sod poodles!
ranchers are idiots, these animals are crucial for the balance of life where they life, countless other species depend on and profit from their presence, they are so precious and so few nowadays - because of idiots/ humans
That look: “Who me?” I’m sorry: “Who us?”
I would love one,but I live in England,I haven't heard of anyone having one over here..I have got guinea pigs lol..If I could get one I'm not looking at getting one just yet..think I'm going to do some searching into seeing if I can even get one..They are adorably cute & really intresting..
Right,have a lovely day & Take care 🌼💜🌼💜
They are adorable but they are not for everyone. Since I am in the United States, it’s based on what state you are in allows you to own one and also if it’s one of the legal states you have to check if your county and town allows them as pets. In England you should see if it is allowed to own one but make sure you check if your county and town allows you to own one.
That was great thank you
Not very specific in detail about needs and diet.
welcome to the new age of no soul, lifeless AI created videos.
I came here specifically to learn first if prairie dogs are a good fit for me, not what they eat. Next if it was suitable I find a video on how to care for it, it’s a process.
@@AmberDawnRising100Also, find out if it's legal in your state. I was shocked to find out I can't have one in Arizona!! Holy crap!
As with all potential pets, DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST.
That is correct because you do not want to bring a new pet into your home, then just to surrender the animal because the owner cannot handle the animal.
❤
This could be the perfect lil baby for me to love! I'm disabled, & kinda a shut-in. Recently my doctor has been calling me "profoundly depressed", & wants me to get a dog. I totally agree! I just know myself... I have to have a rodent in my life🤗. & I'm looking for such a deep connection, I don't know how it would be with two babies😶... Mr. Arthur, do you know what the laws are like in California, having a doctors prescription?
Hello annachristina6539, unfortunately in the state of California prairie dogs are illegal to own in that state. Having a prescription or a letter from your primary care physician will not be considered as an acceptation. When your state has it in the law books that the animal is 100% illegal, then there is nothing you can do. Prairie dogs are one of those kind of wild animals that are legal to own in some states. There are a handful of states that you can legally own one but you would have to have a permit.
There are other types of rodents that are legal to own in California that I can recommend to you?
They are wonderful, full time pets. BTW, they are also abused a lot in states where they are considered a pets. Sadly people are sick and like to shoot them.
No!
They Chew, Chew, Chew!
But Really Cute!
I Was In North Dakota And In A Bismark Pet Store They Were Selling Prairie Dogs, I Went Back To My Wife's Mom's House And Told Them That I Saw These Cute Prairie Dogs In A Pet Store, They Said I Was Crazy That They Were Puppies.
Bottom Line I Dragged Everybody To The Pet Store To Show Them.
They Couldn't Believe It! My Wife Said They Would Use Them For Target Practice! And, They Are Pest And That Farmers Hated Them...
Don't tell the Po Po but I got three right now.
Answer: Yes. Reasoning: Big Ounce
People that think they would make a great pet need to ask Poppy & Paxton how easy it is. Check out their channel. These are wild animals & they are not easy pets, they take constant care. If you want a pet get a dog or cat don’t get something that is a wild animal & you really have no idea how to care for.
Thank you for this
@@carolray3637 your welcome
I been trying to get one I been looking I just don't know where I can go to get one
Finding a prairie dog in a pet store can be very hard to find. You will have better chances of finding one through a breeder online.
Ask a wildlife rehaber
The one question I hoped would be answered is how easy is it to housetrain them? Or is owning one surrendering to the concept of endless piles of prairie dog poop left all over the place?
Hello, house training them is easy. They can be trained to use a liter box. They do defecate quite frequently every 15-30 mins, but that can vary on different types of prairie dogs.
Yes
I hope more people don’t keep them as pets. There’s always abuse, neglect, abandonment and all that is already in epic proportions with cats and dogs. That’s why there are rescues for all the many types of pets, people just don’t take care of them. It’s really sad.
Do they have or carry fleas?
Yes they can carry fleas.
This makes me so sad that my family made us exterminate them when we were younger. So needless. They're a part of a healthy prairie ecosystem, and we need to respect them.
theyre a great pet, but unless theyre watched closely they will chew everything in your house to shreds
I think you need to mention litter training for every animal you make a video about.
Thank you for the suggestion. I will keep it in mind for future videos.
Thank you for replying :)@@ArthurandtheAnimalKingdom
I would imagine they can't be house trained like dogs and cats
if it has giant incisors, claws, its going to cause major damage. they never show you that part in all the, look how cute they are vids..
pets seldom get angry enough to bite and warn u with a big SQUEEK
Appropriate pet for next to no one…
pretty sure prairiedogging means something different.
"they're not cats, dogs or even bunnies." are they jelly fishies?
Ranchers are selfish being they forgot that the prairie dogs were here first before we took their land. Leave them alone give them their space they don't belong in someone's house serving as pets
Unless your an outlaw that has not consented to be governed by a courupt government ! then it dosent matter what you do
Nah I'll pass on the prairie dog as a pet. I already have 100s of gofers here. That's enough rodents for me.
They are not rats😢😢😢 you they were not made to be someone's pet. So, leave them alone let them be free. If you kill them because you don't like them you will get the same treatment you will be punished for hurting them
NO....ITS NOT FOR ME
Leave them alone in their natural environment. Poppy and Pax had special circumstances and would not survive out there. Dont want to see people "farming" them.
They’re not pets!
There rats and make mess everywere just keep for dog meat
So they’re like a lot of people!
Leave them in the prairie.
