Thank you for the update on the transplants, I think it's really important to also show the trees that don't make it (or which aren't doing that well). We can all learn from the failures and it also shows that experience and failure is how we make progress and become better at it. And also that we shouldn't give up.
Great to see the love you have for fruit trees, you also have a beautiful yard. I recently bought an Ardith and Don Gillogly avocados, my friend got them from the CRFG in Los Angeles. Keep the videos rolling 👍
I had a dream about inarch grafting because of one of your previous videos. I have a couple avocado trees that I'm trying to grow in containers long term, and in the dream I grew seedlings in the ground and inarch grafted them to the potted avocado as a way to give it more nutrients and support but still allowing me to cut them and move the tree when I eventually move apartments... Haha I wonder if that would work!
My original or oldest avocado tree I've been trying to save from root rot has turned black. I broke down a bit of the soil for aeration and to check the health of the feeder roots and moisture. I accidentally pushed the tree further down in the pot. There used to be worms down in the pot, but there aren't as many now. The soil smells metalic. It's also got a lot of dead wood material. Until I get my hands on DG, I can't repot it or do anything to save this tree. 😢 Most of the roots deep are white and smell good if squeezed or broken.
I have found a website that sells decomposed granite granite and I think it ships to Bulgaria. The type of DG was 1/4 inch rocks minus something I forgot. I think I'm too late to use it for saving my tree. The trunk has almost died and the tree is exhausted. But when I pruned it I put the cutting in water. Regardless, I think it's best to switch to 100% decomposed granite. I've lost trust with store-bought potting soils. And my avocados are growing super slow even when they're they're healthy. From my experience mine grow only up to a foot a year. Sometimes, they don't even grow half a foot for 12 months. Obviously it's the soil that's causing all these problems - root rot, stunted growth and even pests. But anyways, I think I'll buy DG from that site soon, wish me luck!
Are you growing inside or outside? I found that in the long term lack of sunlight really slows down growth. Also, planting in mounds is essential if you have poor native soil and drainage/root rot issues.
I got a fresh seedling in a water cup that sent 3 separate shoots from the seed. Soon it will be time to graft 3 different varieties onto it!! Taking suggestions for the varieties. How late in the summer is too late to do grafting in SoCal?
Super interesting as always
Thanks!
Great report. I’m looking forward to you discovering another old avocado tree in someone’s back yard and posting the video.
Thanks. More of those videos to come.
Great content as always!
You are the Doctor Frankenstein of Grafting!
😂great compliment.. I’ll take it 👍🏽😀
Good job❤
Thank you
That’s the best answer/explanation for inarching I have heard. I wonder if the sapling needs to be same species

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I agree, don't give up! Keep going!

Your videos have given me the confidence to go make some grafts on my stone fruit trees.
Good luck with your grafting

@vegardno Indoors. I use Air conditioner, so it's rather low humidity.
Great video… IMO Id cut those avocados wayyy back.
Thanks! That’s a very good idea.

Hi AJ, hope all is well. Do you have any cuttings for sale? I have a avocado that my father in law gave me, but it was grown from seed
Lol ive been wishing for this for a while. Bought 2 bags of perlite using his amazon link and used it all up already
What’s your winter temp number
Any books or literature you can recommend? I love stuff about propagation in general.
I don’t know any books about propagation unfortunately.
@@AJTheGraftMan might be time for you to write one! Lol
AJ where did you learn to graft and do you give grafting lessons?
Self taught and yes i do give lessons.
Could you inarch graft to the tree with damaged taproot?
Yes
Very annoying I know. Just did a similar thing. Such is life
Yes indeed. Lessons learned.
You need to pee on those avocado trees.
Wow great report. Some wins and some loss. Next time u wil be better
Thanks for the encouraging message. 🙂
