"Like watching a beautiful sunset, at noon." refers to the fact that Henson died fairly young, which they set up in the line before: "Truth is I miss ya, you were gone too soon."

"Watching a sunset at noon" meant Jim Henson died at too young an age, sort of like a day would end too early if the sunset came at noon.
At the time this video was made, ERB videos were produced by Maker Studios. My understanding (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) is that Maker gave them access to professional-grade filming and editing equipment in exchange for a portion of their profits. Maker Studios is, in turn, owned by Disney (like everything else). Since then, starting with season six (the current season), ERB has gone fully independent. So Disney effectively owned them at the time the Stan Lee vs. Jim Henson video was made, but not anymore.
The ending of this video is typical of season finales, which show the multiple screens rather than "Who won? Who's next?".
I agree that Walt Disney clearly won this battle.

  • @DavidRomigJr
    @DavidRomigJr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +53

Walt Disney states that he is owning this battle, as in he is succeeding in it.
However, he builds on this statement with clever wordplay, as he points out that he owns the whole Epic Rap Battles of History series, as the series itself is produced by Maker Studios Inc., a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company purchased for $500 million in 2014.
So technically, Walt broke the fourth wall.

Technically what Jim Henson (and NicePeter) did was puppeteering, not ventriloquism. The only significant difference is with puppets you don't try to hide your mouth moving. Jim Henson wanted to make 100% sure children knew his puppets weren't talking on their own so he would make sure they saw his mouth moving.

  • @KhawChing

At some point in 2014 Disney bought Maker Studio's which was a Kassim G partnership owned and operated thing before that. That was end of season 3 beginning of season 4 time. So from that point Disney essentially owned ERB. After season 5 though ERB was put on the back burner while Lloyd and Peter pursued other interests. They bought ERB back from Disney and now own it themselves which is why there is so much riding on a successful return.

  • @BlackDumble

"Who won? Who's next?" Isn't there for two reasons.
    1º End of season.
2º.....Because Disney won. Of course he did. He owned Maker Studios (the ones who make ERB) right up until the end of Season 5.
Something to note, by the way. If you look closely at all the people painting/drawing at the end, you can clearly see a lot of brands in there. ABC, ESPN, etc etc.
It's actually frightening how much Disney actually owns, directly or indirectly.

With Jack Kirby and Stan Lee they used what they called the Marvel Method to make comics where Stan would give a broad script maybe just a page or so and let Jack actually come up with how the story would happen panel to panel. Then Stan would get the artwork and put in the word bubbles, writing the story to match up with Jack’s art. So who really wrote the story was the big controversy.

The way Disney spells "Mickey" is like the send off from the Mouseketeers.
    M-I-C
    See you later!
    K-E-Y
    Why? Because we like you!

Yeah, Jack was the art/layout man par excellence, while Stan was an idea guy. They both were important, but Stan catered to the public, while Jack didn't want to have the limelight.
"Sunset at noon" is just a metaphor for ending too soon. Suns are supposed to set in the evening, but Jim died well before his time.

    Mr Hooper RIP
The sweatshop thing: Disney famously derided and worked against the unions back in the day - there's even shtick about it in Dumbo (the union 'clowns').

Disney Sweat Shops? Hell, yes, even back in the 1950's, before the parks and toy lines! Hand-drawn animation, thousands upon thousands of drawings -- no computers, remember! -- required long hours of hand-cramping and not always well-paid labor! Air conditioning? What's that?

It was just a reference to Jim dying way too early. He died of some illness I forget (pneumonia? maybe?) at age 53. I was 13 at the time, and man was it heartbreaking. Disney released a really sweet tribute to him: lavendergirl88.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/funny-muppets-disney-kermit-sad.jpg

The kirby thing has more to it. The marvel method has the writer give a shitty vague story outline and the artist does literally damn near everything else. It really was Jack Kirby's comic with Stan's ideas.

Yeah, Walt Disney was not a big fan of unions. Back in the early 40s, his animation studio went on strike because they wanted to form a union of their own, but he wouldn't let them. Several animators broke off and formed their own studio, UPA.

This was intentionally and brilliantly written, Disney spends the whole time emphasizing how he is both undisputably the winner, and also indisputably evil.
This was the last battle ERB produced while working with Maker Studios and technically owned by Disney. A truly epic way to go out while giving the finger to your boss in public.

Fans give kirby credit nowadays. Its kinda similar to Tesla, once the info was realized, it spread to popular knowledge. But yeah for years it was not well known
also to explain it: Disney is the parent company of the company that paid for ERB, the is why there was such a long delay between the last two seasons. they are now privately owned by cast and crew.
P.P.S Disney, after the fox purchase, owns more than 68% of all entertainment, world wide. the beauty of being so big you get to rewrite the monopoly and public domain laws of USA
