For anyone who didn't understand the Knot reference:
It is said that Alexander went to a sort of holy site and there was a Knot. Legend said that "whoever undid the Knot would rule all Asia" i believe.

The full story, I believe, was that the people of Phrygia were without a king, so an Oracle declared that the next man to enter their capital on an ox-cart would be declared king. A peasant by the name of Gordias drove into town on an ox-cart and was named king. In thanks, Gordias' son, Midas (yes, *that* Midas) dedicated the cart to one of their gods before tying it to a post with an intricate knot. By the time Alexander arrived, the kingdom of Phrygia was reduced to a mere satrapy of the Persian Empire, with the Gordian Knot in the capital's palace. An Oracle declared that whoever managed to unravel the knot would go on to become ruler of Asia.
The legend goes two different ways from there. The most commonly quoted says that Alexander *did* in fact try to untie it at first before reasoning that it didn't matter how the knot was undone (as the Oracle hadn't said "untie" but "unravel") and cutting it. The other, less quoted version, is that Alexander removed the linchpin from the cart's yoke, which caused the knot to unravel.

@@Rhyza13 I had to look it up myself. The exact cause isnt certain I guess. Some argue it was poison, some say malaria or something like malaria. I think the only thing that is agreed on is he had a high fever that lasted 10 days and ended up killing him

Well on the ps2, guitar hero 3 if I'm correct on the game, you were able to use the controller. I remember using it on the game because I was too young to hold the guitar and used the controller but I'm not sure about the other consoles or systems because I never played those

I have to say, the visuals of this ERB are often ignored. Alexander mentions that Ivan died in the middle of a game of chess, but he turns over the black king. For those unfamiliar with chess white moves first, and since Ivan went first in the battle that symbolically makes him the "White King." So when Alexander turned over the black king instead, he was foreshadowing his own death ahead of Ivan's. In contrast when Catherine says "Empress to Tsar 8 bitch, checkmate" the white king falls over, showing the death of Ivan (the "white king"). It's something that you need to know chess for to understand, and is intentionally obscured. It is obscured both by Alexander being mentioned before Ivan (Alexander the Great vs Ivan the Terrible), and their titles ("great" typically being associated with good and white, and "terrible" typically being associated with bad/evil and black).

1.) Pompey was killed VIA decapitation from the geratte wire which was acting as a callback to Ivan attempting to use it on Fredrick.
2.) Cathrine had settled Alaska in 1784 and it was sold to the US in 1912
3.) The death by horse sex was actually one of many rumors. However her actual cause of death was the result of a stroke, from which she never recovered, eventually passing in her sleep.

Frederick the Great was well known for using the oblique order of battle, which meant using most of his forces on one section of the enemy line for a local advantage to roll up an enemy battle line. Also, the 'ain't exactly straight' line means what you probably think it does. Frederick was either gay or bisexual, and since he reportedly never lay with his wife and had no children, i think it's safe to say that he isn't interested in women

Even back then there were expansions... Mostly on PC, but there were things like the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors expansions on PS2... You could play them as their own thing too, but yeah, they were essentially expansions...Oh and let's not forget Sonic and Knuckles is kinda an expansion for Sonic 3 back on the Mega Drive/ Genesis...
Regardless, personally I like expansions... when they are done right.
Some games benefit so much from getting expanded on... The problem is more that some companies are really taking the piss with it.

Supposedly alot of her furniture in her bedroom was carved with fairly interesting bits into them. She definitely had multiple lovers. The horse thing is almost certainly untrue, but was widely spoken of by her polotical opponents.

the oblique reference was partly mentioned in regards to the attack technique or battle plan that Alexander would use with his armies in battles.

The oblique attack line is a double entendre.
There are rumors that he was gay and he used oblique order in battle. Basically you have one section of your line disproportionately strengthened, so when they make contact with the enemy they collapse their flank. Idea was to defeat the enemy in detail. When one end of the enemy line starts failing, they'll unravel like a zipper.

She killed him with the garrote ( pronounced GAH-ROT ) wire that Ivan was about to use earlier. A garrote is an assassination technique where you come up behind someone and shock them out to death. Favored because of the lack of sound they make as they die from being strangled. The wire on a garrote was usually piano wire so once around the neck it was impossible to save yourself by doing the natural reaction of grabbing what's around your throat. Combined with leverage it was lethal and stealthy.
Catherine is such an underrated historical figure for everything she accommplished in a single lifetime. Especially for a woman, which at the time women leaders in Europe was almost unheard of.

I give the battle to Catherine personally. She's one of my historical idols. Her story isn't quite rags to riches, but it's close to it. Born to a woman from a lesser noble family, married into the Russian royal family to a manchild of a husband, won the love of the Russian people, lead a coup against her husband when it became clear he was bad for the country...And the story of her love with Grigory Potemkin is one for the ages. Even after they stopped being lovers, the love between them was a true and deep one. He'd send men her way that he hoped would hold her love and attention, and speaking bad about him was a fast way to be kicked to the curb by the most powerful woman in the world at the time. The love they had is the kind of love people search for their entire lives.

Oblique attack is to have your line attack an enemy's at a diagonal disposition. Basically you're putting pressure on one end of the enemy's line first, thrown them off balance, then sweep out what's left. The risk to your own men is that the first to make contact take the hardest hits before hitting the enemy.

Also, Catherine the great didn't die by fucking a horse. It's a rumour. I mean, she may have died that way but it's never been confirmed or proven. That's why she said that story was horse shit.

most historians now agree that that was political enemy propaganda. It started when her lover/husband situations required various men to go be political figures elsewhere. this allowed for some entrepreneurial endeavors about lovers, husbands, heirs, etc. coming and claiming various rights and powers. she beheaded most of them.

But not many Russians wanted to move there and they needed money after some wars so Alexander II sold it. So it would've been about 70 years after Catherine died.

Vasilyewitch (Greogriewich, Aleskadnriewich) is created from father's name, and means "Son of Vasil". No, the implication is that Ivan DOESN'T survive. When Catherine ends her verse saying "Checkmate" it indicates the chess game is over, so he had to have had his stroke before she finished. She's the survivor.

Catherine is why I keep coming back to this battle and its one of my favourite. Her style is awesome, even though I love the whole battle.
ERB is the best when they are doing proper history battles.
The beauty of this vid is that Alexander died due to alcohol, Fredrick died in his chair of old age, and Pompey was assassinated right before he gave a speech. The reason Ivan failed to kill Catherine is that the horse rumor wasn't true.
As for the winner I think there are three legitimate choices: Alexander for Zach's exceptional flow, Fredrick for tightest verse, or Catherine for the best take down (2 strong verses vs. nothing but an uninformed assassination attempt from Ivan.) Ivan fails because he only had one verse which was immediately beat by Alexander and then he tried to kill off his competitors and only succeeded once (and that is only if you go with the rumor of Alexander being poisoned instead of just drinking too much.)
So I am going to have to disagree with you. You had several choices and still chose wrong. That's okay people do it all the time.
