Damn, thats why they were so damn awesome in the day. Chris and the boys were on time and in tune and Geoff was in key and could hit ranges that are completely amazing. It was the best days of my life and am so thankful that QueensRyche is part of that for me. Voices are calling me back to the day...Listen
Superb stuff. Been a ryche fan since the mid 80's and this is one of the best live versions I've seen. Geoffs voice is just so strong. Anyone who questions his voice needs to watch this clip.
It still amazes me that Tate could nail this song live. I've listened to Queensryche countless times and I'm still in awe whenever I hear them during their prime.
OMG! The mighty Queensryche in their prime. Geoff Tate was the greatest voice to come out of the 80's scene. Rage for Order was such an underrated album (or to far ahead of it's time). I wish I had seen them in this tour. Got to see them the next year though. Thanx for posting.
When did I say Todd is better than Tate at his best? Prime Tate is my favourite vocalist of all time, in any genre; Live in Tokyo remains my most played music DVD. He was one of a kind, and will be remembered (one can only hope) as a legend and a trailblazer. At present, however, he has a severely deficient voice, and even struggles to stay on pitch. As evidenced by Tate's recent shows, Todd is, today, a better singer. His tone is improving (with his breath control), and he's always emotive.
Saw these guys in Baltimore open for Kiss during the Lick It Up tour (1985 I believe) and they BLEW 'EM OFF THE STAGE! I was sitting in about tenth row- main floor and Geoff Tate's voice was UNBELIEVABLE!
Okay definitely NOT the Lick It Up Tour that was 83'. In 85' KISS had released the Asylum album. It was 84' that KISS was supporting the Animalize album and when I saw Queensryche open for them (Philly). They were GREAT and I love Queensryche but they did NOT blow KISS off stage (imo) just sayin'
Geoff Tate was the FINEST most gifted singer in rock history with apologies to Halford, Dio, and Dickinson all of whom are spectacular in their own right. Still, could any of them pull off Queen of the Reich at the END of a show like Tate did? Lord that is some powerful stuff.
I've seen a lot of bands over the years...including this one in '84 and on this tour, but I've NEVER heard vocals like that from anyone else. It was an amazing time for sure.
Todd is actually benefiting from not only the legacy of QR, but also the point in time he joined the band. Back in their beginnings, being young, full of energy and ambition, they toured hard and partied hard. It's just a part of being young. Today they are past that and working to build the brand. So, for me, I feel very fortunate to have witnessed those early years live and in progress. And I like how you noted "driven by vocal lines", which a lot of people overlook but are drawn to.
Wow ... just amazing ! their energy is sooo intense on stage at these magical times ... this is a godsend precious video that makes us forget its bad quality for the huge perfomance of this song ! i wish I could travel back in times ... I was only 10 in 1986 ^^
Absolutely amazing! This band was perfect at the time this was made. I miss the duel guitars and Geoff's awesome 4 octave vocal range. Studied under, Maestro David Kyle, also the vocal trainer for the Wilson Sisters of Heart. He's also fluent in piano and keyboards also saxophone. Chris DeGarmo was such an amazing composer. RYCHE ROLLED THE WORLD!
i saw them play a lil club in NYC called LaMour .... they had nothing on record yet but for this ep....we had no idea who they were....when they left NYC was put on notice.....things were about to change.....and they did....
@resurgam44, Geoff Tate was born in Germany, while his dad was stationed there on military duty with the U.S., but he is a U.S. citizen. Thanks for uploading this awesome vid. RYCHE ON!
People may make fun of so called "hair metal" these days, but this was serious stuff back than. These guys would melt your face. The craftsmanship has rarely been matched. I was lucky enuff to see them in 85 opening for Kiss.
I'm actually in the same boat as you. I discovered Queensryche around 2005 when I was 15, and am 19 now. Age doesn't matter, gender doesn't matter, only the music matters. Ryche on.
degarmo is a great metal guitarist and tate is one of the best metal vocalists EVA!!!! they have been one of my favorite bands for over 20yrs... even their new stuff is high on my list... as much as I love rage for order, promised land is still my favorite album from them...
@sobeto28 Nope. Head voice. He hits a short A5 in one version of "Prophecy" and, I believe, at the end of the album version of "Blinded". A good example of a G5 from him is in his 1985 Live in Tokyo performance of "Queen of the Reich". If you can hit a G5 that powerfully, an A5 really isn't all that far-fetched. It seems, however, that this is pretty much the definitive top of his range.
I wish Queensryche still had this intensity, and -above all - I wish they still had DeGarmo. While I'd still buy a ticket to see the band anytime anywhere, this incarnation of the band was just so hungry and ready to take on the world. I'm glad I got to see them several times during that era.
I agree 100% about HITNF! Very underrated.. The song "You" on there is such classic Ryche, and that no one can see that is absurd!!!! That was an amazing album and I will argue with anyone who will disagree!!
@elfquest108 Yes! They are still around without Chris De Garmo, but I just saw them las month in Dallas at The House Of Blues. Their set list was kick ass! They played alot of their old stuff & a few of their newer songs. TOTALLY AWESOME SHOW!!
+1 The band I was in during the 80's wore spandex and eye liner. We used to get razed from time to time so I started wearing a torn up t-shirt on stage that said "Fuck off and die!"
@TheLeroyMoon I saw them on Operation Mindcrime. Are they really still around? I thought they tapered off after Empire and maybe another bad album afterwards.
@resurgam44 Hush! Maybe right, but he's earned his respect. One of the best operatic voices in rock of all time, if not the best! I don't want to hear anything from Freddie either, sit down, shut up!
Yeah they rule. 1st time I saw them was in USA...supporting KISS 1984...they were supposed to open for RATT in 1987 but they dropped off the tour..I stil have the newspaper ad proclaiming them as the opening act...they were replaced by Joan Jett and Poison; then in 1988 I saw them open for METALLICA. Then in 1991 I saw them headline and I've caught every tour since except the current tour because it isn't coming to my city
@REXxMaskimus I totally agree with you. Most guys dress boring now. In the 80's male artists were allowed to look good, and you sure as hell didn't have to be gay to appreciate that. They were our idols, leaders, superheroes, and they had to have super appearance. It was very inspirational and cool. Image was and still is very important! You can't really look up to a guy who looks like he just walked off the street.
thats why im impressed that you even know who queensryche is, i tell people about them and there like huh, who, is that a band lol, im like you gotta be kidding me
seen them ever since they came to holland ,first time in 1984 supporting Dio last time in Zwolle 2009I think tey are the best The Pink Floyd of progressive metal
@cetanlutah Yeh he is an amazing singer, definitely up there with the likes of Bruce and Halford. Dont forget Ian Gillian and Harry "the Tyrant" though. Personally, even though Geoff is incredible, i just love Halford and he is my fav singer.
The comments that Geoff Tate must be "gay" because of the way he dressed in a particular era (20+ years ago) are simply unwarranted. It's amazing how much more homophobic people are now than they were in the '80s. Back then, most rock bands--whether they were metal, alternative, or mainstream--experimented with different looks. That meant having big hair and making fashion statements. That was the '80s. I suppose every band from the '80s would look "gay" to today's homophobic population.
@GuitarBill13 I was referring to the douchey user, tmwnat, NOT Geoff Tate; believe me, I know my Tate. It would behove you check the previous comments before responding next time. Thank you.
let me shake your hand that im very impressed that your 18, your a girl and you know alot about queenryche. Girls that i talk about them say who, is that a band and even guys dont have a clue who they are and thats sad
Damn, thats why they were so damn awesome in the day. Chris and the boys were on time and in tune and Geoff was in key and could hit ranges that are completely amazing. This concert was the reason I became such a huge fan of QR. It was a great concert!!

Oh my god what a voice !!!

Oh SUCH memories.. ty geoff.. you put a song in my heart.. and a fire to perform..
Priceless. I was just a year to young to see this tour. What a band. Thanks for the share.
Geoff Tate was the FINEST most gifted singer in rock history with apologies to Halford, Dio, and Dickinson all of whom are spectacular in their own right. Still, could any of them pull off Queen of the Reich at the END of a show like Tate did? Lord that is some powerful stuff.
Halford on the ram it down tour was absolutely insane.
They're doing Queen of the Reich at the END of the fucking show!! Thats more than INSANE!!! That's QUEENSRYCHE FUCK YEAH!
Hard to believe these guys were an opening act for any band
agree.
I've seen a lot of bands over the years...including this one in '84 and on this tour, but I've NEVER heard vocals like that from anyone else. It was an amazing time for sure.
Wow, just amazing...
Yeah, I saw that tour and everyone was going nuts when Queenryche played. They came out for an encore. Bad ass
geoff tate was one of the best voices in the 80"s
Saw this tour and it was excellent...
I still remember the first time I heard this riff. I still get goosebumps to this day.
Todd is actually benefiting from not only the legacy of QR, but also the point in time he joined the band. Amazing!
Yes!!!!! I saw this tour in Albuquerque in a warehouse with about 1000 of my closest friends! Thanks for the post!
That's INSANE!!!
Wow ... just amazing ! their energy is sooo intense on stage at these magical times ... this is a godsend precious video that makes us forget its bad quality for the huge perfomance of this song ! i wish I could travel back in times ... I was only 10 in 1986 ^^
I don't care what any one says, the 80's rocked!
Tate is amazing.
i saw them play a lil club in NYC called LaMour .... they had nothing on record yet but for this ep....we had no idea who they were....when they left NYC was put on notice.....things were about to change.....and they did....
pure greatness.....
He was so amazing up till 1988
THE PERFECT METAL/ROCK SINGER!!
I still cant get over that voice eh guys, i really cant!
This song should be mandatory listening for all high school senoirs b4 graduating!!!
@resurgam44, Geoff Tate was born in Germany, while his dad was stationed there on military duty with the U.S., but he is a U.S. citizen. Thanks for uploading this awesome vid. RYCHE ON!
Wow great! 10x for sharing
People may make fun of so called "hair metal" these days, but this was serious stuff back than. These guys would melt your face. The craftsmanship has rarely been matched. I was lucky enuff to see them in 85 opening for Kiss.
@unixkid1 Good to see, that some legendary singers are still in good shape.
StagnantExistance who are you referring to? Tater Tot is a bloated drunk, who smokes a carton of Camel Crush a day!
I'm actually in the same boat as you. I discovered Queensryche around 2005 when I was 15, and am 19 now. Age doesn't matter, gender doesn't matter, only the music matters. Ryche on.
@MrVANJR you are right when i think about it,i cant remeber a better voice.he was the best in the 80's!!!
degarmo is a great metal guitarist and tate is one of the best metal vocalists EVA!!!! they have been one of my favorite bands for over 20yrs... even their new stuff is high on my list... as much as I love rage for order, promised land is still my favorite album from them...
We never thought of Queensryche as "hair metal". Never . I've seen them from their first tour on.
Brutal, simply Brutal
@BlissfulWishes I came across that same interview. Thanks.
bro im so glad geoff quit smoking, you can see a big difference in his vocal range and that he still has that magical voice
@sobeto28
Nope.
Geoff Tate, Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Dio, Michael Kiske....
GOD...take me back to the fucking 80's!
Best song of the whole show.....the EP is the real shit.
I wish Queensryche still had this intensity, and -above all - I wish they still had DeGarmo. While I'd still buy a ticket to see the band anytime anywhere, this incarnation of the band was just so hungry and ready to take on the world. I'm glad I got to see them several times during that era.
I’ll tell you something, Tate is the greatest singer in the history of music. No one could touch this and everyone knows that
You know I still have audio footages on tape of that concert in amsterdam in 84
And met Eddie in brussels performing mindcrime 1&2 in 2008
I agree 100% about HITNF! Very underrated.. The song "You" on there is such classic Ryche, and that no one can see that is absurd!!!! That was an amazing album and I will argue with anyone who will disagree!!
Mr Tate -BRILIANT!
In their prime with their star a shine
He's steadily improving since he quit smoking. He has his good and bad days, but overall is better today than he was in the mid nineties.
@cetanlutah there is still Ski from Deadly Blessing. He can still sing like he did on the Ascend From Cauldron album.
saw them in the netherlands at this tour supporting bon jovi in arnhem 1986
@elfquest108 Yes! They are still around without Chris De Garmo, but I just saw them las month in Dallas at The House Of Blues. Their set list was kick ass! They played alot of their old stuff & a few of their newer songs. TOTALLY AWESOME SHOW!!
DeGarmo is cool in this vid..Full on 80s
stuff... Seen Chris @ the Van Nuys Airport a few times. Cool dude...
Queensryche opening for Ratt...that's like the Stone's opening for Backstreet Boys. There is no justice...

The band I was in during the 80's wore spandex and eye liner. We used to get razed from time to time so I started wearing a torn up t-shirt on stage that said "Fuck off and die!"
❤❤❤❤❤❤
If you do, please post a video!
@QueensrycheGirl1995
Yup! He has a recorded range from A1 to A5, although I doubt he can hit an A5 any longer.
Now it's F#1 - A5. Extraordinary vocal range.
@Santurro99 Ya, they rocked till the 90's came around...flopped with Empire, Silent Lucidty, etc.
Do you have any other videos from this bootleg avaliable to upload? Cheers!
Wow, this is amazing! (obvious fan) they blow me away. Fun fact: Geoff Tate has a four octave range for singing! Incredible!
yeeeeaaah!!!
un cantante che arrivi così acuto in un concerto non esiste tranne che lui
@resurgam44 Geoff Tate has a A5?falsetto right?even so,i can't remember where he hit that,do you remember?
@TheLeroyMoon I saw them on Operation Mindcrime. Are they really still around? I thought they tapered off after Empire and maybe another bad album afterwards.
alguien me puede explicar como mierda hace?!??! incredible!!!!
This is brillant any idea who they r opening for here? AC/DC Ratt or Ozzy?
im with you matey.
I thought it was awesome. Queensryche's image was really mysterious back then.
@resurgam44 Hush! Maybe right, but he's earned his respect. One of the best operatic voices in rock of all time, if not the best! I don't want to hear anything from Freddie either, sit down, shut up!
was this in Irving cal opening for jurist prest?
wow..they toured Europe with Bon Jovi...that's incredible..what a bizzare bill.
Dude, how did you find this video ? Its 23 years ago.

Geoff quit smoking and his voice has improved greatly.
Geoff Tate had awesome stage prescence in those days. He just kinda fucked up wearing a Gold's Gym t-shirt on Operation Mindcrime.
@resurgam44 holy shite....i did not knwo that...
@resurgam44 haha! fuck yea bro. you're reply blew that fool away!

seen them ever since they came to holland ,first time in 1984 supporting Dio last time in Zwolle 2009I think tey are the best The Pink Floyd of progressive metal
It wasn't an '80s thing. The entire band was dressing like vampires on this tour. Rage was basically inspired by vampire novels and stories.
@cetanlutah Yeh he is an amazing singer, definitely up there with the likes of Bruce and Halford. Dont forget Ian Gillian and Harry "the Tyrant" though. Personally, even though Geoff is incredible, i just love Halford and he is my fav singer.
