I am a nobody guitarist from Texas, and a number of years ago, I played a handful of gigs for an artist who is a mutual friend of mine and Derek’s. (Derek was already very well known as a bad ass number one guy and had recorded a lot of the guitar for the album our mutual artist friend was playing to support.) Derek was at a lot of the shows and at one point, even filled in on bass duties. At no point whatsoever was he anything but kind, supportive, and one of the dudes. Never talked down to anyone, no “big time“ energy. I had the pleasure of watching him play live with Charlie Worsham (another monster musician and guitarist) and Derek’s ability to seamlessly and authentically move from style to style with as close to perfect technique on the instrument as you can l, was just mind blowing. In years past, I worked with a couple of other “big” guitar names who didn’t have an ounce of his humanity and humility but are out there doing clinics and promoting signature gear and “presenting” as the nicest fellas around. So happy to see him getting love, he’s as genuine as they come.
Hi Derek, Could you indicate to your viewers about the Lindy Fraland and the pedal steel pickup if to get those in a Telecaster like yours would they need to be vintage or if the newer ones would do just fine? I am also looking for a Gibson ES-335 with PAF Pickups but I know they went back to a more vintage style of neck in the 64' Thank You, Dynamic Alan

Hi Derek, Don't your strings always need to be new for your session? I thought for the Bass Player they do need to be new.
