A quick little behind-the-scenes video peeling back the curtain on a Nashville tracking session. We tracked seven songs on a double (two three-hour sessions) for Caden Gillard. Such a treat getting to work with session musicians of this caliber.

During the design period for a major facility, an intense period that might take a year or so, I identify closely with the project, the Owner, the local team and with my fellow consultants. I remember being made very welcome in Nashville through the two years of design and build at Starstruck, but was also aware that as soon as the build was complete and I had commissioned the facility, it would be time to go and I would simply move on. That is why it is always so pleasing to hear that these buildings, having absorbed so much time and innovation, are still being successfully used and doing their job so well. Delighted to see a video of the mechanics, and very pleased with Starstruck’s success.

It was great to see Starstruck again after being away for over 20 years. I was the original chief technical engineer there, being part of the later stage planning process and wiring everything into place. In many ways I miss that place a lot... all of the visual textures along with the sonic signatures of the rooms. The first iteration of the main monitors was off the hook amazing... but apparently someone came in demanding changes and since then I've heard that they've never sounded as good. My guess is that in the least, the Sony 3348s are gone, but I don't know.
The best thing to see was that you were using the studios in the way that was originally intended... tracking in the Gallery while being able to use the iso rooms in the Pond if it wasn't booked. Fun fact, the SSL 9000J consoles can be tied together so that the console in the Gallery can control the console in the Pond, or vice versa. Starstruck was set up to be INCREDIBLY flexible from the very beginning!
Thanks again for this video. I thought that the thumbnail looked familiar, so I'm glad that I followed my instincts. Cheers!

@@joefitzpatrick7563 And just WHY did the neighbors complain? There studios for the most part were converted houses that had no isolation to speak of from the outside world. To be neighborly, they decided to not use it, even though they legally could.

@joep869 Omg Man.. If you’ve never been you cant even imagine! This was nice glimpse for sure, But I’m confident @NickyV would agree this was just one part of a day, One which encompasses an infinite number of possible new challenges he’ll face throughout the remaining 364
      days of the year!
One phase at one location among countless identical others (and some far better & more exclusive!) which make up the non-stop studio phase of music city’s mega hit making recording machine!!

@@JasonWright-mc6dz Agreed, this is an exceptionally top shelf studio. There are a handful of others in this league in town but most are vibey and grimey but get great sounds.

Excellent look into the studio process. Something I've never had a chance to experience. I especially like how you highlighted that the keyboardist rarely plays more than 3 notes at once on the B3. Absolutely correct for that classic B3 sound. Thanks for a great video.

Awesome video! I was a cartage guy back in the mid-late 90’s. We did Steve Brewster‘s cartage. I used to come and set up the famous “Bacco kit” which Sam Bacco built for Steve. Been in Starstruck Studios a few times. It is a world-class facility. Glad to see that it is still going and Steve Brewster is still doing his thing. He’s a great guy and a phenomenal player. Nashville session musicians are ALL just on another planet from the rest of us. It was always inspiring to witness just a small amount of the incredible musicianship that exists in a Nashville recording session. Most people just have no idea. Thanks for giving us all a little bit of insight into what your world is like. I think it’s incredible that you’re doing this. So glad I caught it. BTW, you get extra credit for doing your own cartage😅

Thanks for this presentation. Rock/Blues Hammond organist here, and it was great seeing some love givin to the mod finished B3. 72 now, have done the studio thing for MANY years. I was always told to play with musicians BETTER then you, and the LESS is always MORE approach, hence the minimal arrangement on the Hammond with only a couple draw bars pulled as seen in this session.
The music industry / major label companies have really changed over the years, especially with the quality home studio market and all the 'toys' the engineers have at their fingers.
