Little hard on Sansa there don't ya think? I mean he raped her, beat her, in front of Theon, multiple times, killed her brother right in front of her. And she responded by kindly reuniting him with his precious hounds.
The fact that they ate him was his own fault for starving them in the first place. Her smile was just the joy one feels when someone get's exactly what they deserve.
That was Fake Sansa. In the books Sansa is with Littlefinger in the vale. The Boltons had a great idea of getting a girl that looked like sansa and just say "Welp, f*ck we found her guys, now she will happily marry Ramsey"

not hard on Sansa at all. she's become sadistic. she has no honor, which i think she never had any in the first place. no matter the crime, Starks execute cleanly. her transformation into a dark character is understandable, but she's definitely no longer what the Starks stand for. it doesn't matter how much you think someone deserves a slow death, or torture. to stop that kind of brutality from propagating among your people, you as a leader and role model never act with that kind of brutality in the first place.

Stark's way of justice
It's the old way. Arguably Janos Slynt did stuff on the same level or worse than Ramsay, plus he was a coward, and Jon still gave him a quick beheading.
This applies even today. We judge ourselves not only how we treat our own people, but how we treat our enemies. If we stoop to the same level of savagery committed by the enemy, then we have no monopoly on justice and what is good. We are essentially as bad as the savages if we cannot act with humanity.
There's actually a video by Charisma on Command where he explains how the Stark's honorable way gets Ed, Robb and Jon killed one way or another so Sansa made the right choice, the less honorable choice in ending Ramsay.
It would've been more gratifying to me to see Sansa formally chop off Ramsay's head, as is the Northern way. But, I understand why this didn't happen. This season has been about breaking traditions, whether good or bad, and Sansa breaking this good tradition of personally killing those whom you sent to die, shows how Ramsay won.
Been waiting for this since I have finished watching the episode itself :D

Not really, no matter how bad of a person it is, enjoying in someone's suffering is inherently a flawed character trait. Ramsay didn't die, he lives on in Sansa and as such, he didn't lose. Him saying "You can't kill me" wasn't a plea for mercy, it was a statement of fact.
***** I fundamentally disagree with making bad people suffer or even killing them if you already have them captive, but that's something I cannot argue with you on. Anyway, that's my 21st century view and I understand if Ramsay needs to be executed, completely get that. Making him suffer however, does in the end nothing to Ramsay (he dies anyway) and everything to Sansa, who is change for the worse forever.

Noooooo, that was her win. One of the points of this show is showing who people really are, look at the old honorable Ned who he called clean getting saved by backstabing. That was perfectly fine for her to enjoy. She was naive and stupid before and now she is finally a person who can survive in westeros.

The scenes are entertaining but on a juvenile level which is quite sad. Remember the Battle of the Blackwater? The conflict was set up so well with consistent character motivations and interesting interactions between characters that you couldn't wait to see what would happen. You could potentially root for both sides. I mean, I didn't want Tyrion to lose or overeager Baratheon troops to have poor Sansa every which way they pleased, but at the same time I felt sorry for the kindly, loyal Ser Davos for losing his son(s) and wanted to see Stannis throwing a screeching Joffrey into a black cell. It was so intense and not (just) because of the visuals. But because you cared about nearly everyone involved. You just don't see this type of stuff anymore.
Pretty sure the Waif was Aria's alter ego, if it was literally just some broken character with inconsistentt and illogical motives then...yea...

I don't get why every single GOT TH-camr can't figure out why Sansa did not tell Jon that LittleFinger was coming, including this one who is soo smart. Is everyone having a brain fart? LittleFinger betrayed Ned Stark people know this,Jon knows this. Just because they showed a play portraying the traitor of Ned as Tyrion doesn't mean that everyone believes that. That was half a world away in Essos for fucks sake. If Sansa would had told Jon that Petyr was offering to help Jon would had NEVER accepted his help, thinking that LittleFinger was being sent by the Lannisters to betray the Starks again. If Sansa would had told Jon that she sent word to Baelish and for him to come and help anyway without telling Jon before hand he would had flipped out and retreated back to the wall thinking that Baelish was coming to stab his forces in the back. Jon would NEVER EVER EVER have trusted LittleFinger enough to accept his help no matter how desperate he was. LittleFinger knew this and convinced Sansa not to tell him, that is why they met in secret after all.
Both Sansa and Littlefinger were convinced that if Petyr would had approached Jon to offer his help Jon would had arrested him and killed him for betraying his father. But LittleFinger is supporting Jon NOT because of his love for Caitlyn and Sansa, he is fooling Sansa with that story. LittleFinger hates the Starks and fucked the Starks out of revenge for Brandon Stark stealing Catlyn from him he betrayed Ned,tried to kill Bran,pimped out Sansa and started the whole war of the Five Kings because he is a Targaryen supporter and he knows that Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna. LittleFinger learned the truth thru either his spies or being Maester of Coin finding some secret document perhaps even a Rhaegar and Lyanna marriage license in Kings landing. Viserys supports Dany while LittleFinger has thrown all his eggs in the basket with Jon Targaryen. Baelish knew that he could never get close enough to Jon to tell him the truth as he has done soo much against his Stark family, saving Jon at the last minute was the only way LittleFinger could gain Jon's gratitude and accept his help.
LittleFinger thinks that because no one supports Jon Snow/Targaryen he could have complete control over him and be the power behind the throne but Bran through his visions knows all and in time will tell Jon everything how he betrayed Ned,tried to kill Bran,pimped out Sansa and who knows maybe LittleFinger even set up the Red Wedding (remember Caitlyn's harsh rejection when LittleFinger tried to approach her while bringing her Ned's head?). Bran will tell Jon the truth and even though everything he did he did to put Jon Targaryen on the throne Jon will kill him because the Starks are still his family, not only are they his real mothers family but also the only family he has ever known.
But then, everybody with half of brain wouldn't be surprised with Knights of the Vale saving the day in the last moment.

If you think about it, in the whole saga there're 3 evils: The teenage evil (Jeoffrey), The Grown-up evil (Ramsay) and the Mature evil (Euron). All of them being supreme antagonists in this order (with a bit overlapping). Don't know about the show, but I am looking forward to read the upcoming books and see where the evil will escalate to.

I love how the characters playing "the masters" were originally just random messengers from the masters, but then they became defacto ambassadors for the masters, and now they are the actual masters, easily killed and swept aside just so Danny doesnt have to deal with a dense power structure that would surely resist her influence for decades.
Sansa totally wanted Jon snow to die. The look on her face when he, Tormund and Wun Wun are running towards Winterfell and she see's them is one of shock. She's shocked he is still alive.

The highest level on their site, in fact he was ranked Politifacts Liar of the Year in 2015.
And his crookedness? One needs only to look at his records running his own businesses. Trump University is but only one scandal on his plate, he has countless others though. How can he be trusted to run a country when can't even run a company without running it into bankruptcy.

There are two things I disliked about this episode. Overall it was great, but some things bothered me.
Sansa. Nothing she does this season makes sense. She hides the vale army from John, which basically means she personally sacreficed thousands of men in that final battle just to quicken the siege so she could get her revenge quicker. That's really the only motivation I can think of that could explain her behavior. I was hoping she would be a badass character, but she still acts like a child. A cruel and selfish child.
The fight, while the start was great. The scene when the phalanx half circle didn't make any sense whatsoever.
First of all they managed to(with heavy armor/shields, on foot) surround the entire wildling army in no time flat.
We're talking a group of a thousand people. surrounded just like that with no resistance.
After they where surrounded, they where still a thousand wildlings inside a half circle 4 men thick.
They had a giant... Speaking of the giant, why not give him a weapon? With a small trunk or the bow from the Wall fight he could do a LOT of damage quite easily.
Anyway, the giant + 1000 wildlings all focusing their attack on one point at one end of the half circle should have no trouble breaking through at all. I think I counted 6 wildings attacking those shields all together. Why??
Lastly Davos and his archers started running towards the fight after the wildlings had just arrived. The wildling spent the entire beginning of the fight getting to the fight. Davos and company didn't have time to get inside the shield wall. So what was he doing all that time outside?
Was his 20 archers behind enemy lines just standing there watching?
The second half of the war made 0 sense.

The weaponless Wun Wun annoyed the hell out of me too, he could be so much more useful armed with some nasty big axe etc. That would indeed be a sight to behold; cleaving away at dozens of people with an axe.
SpunkyTheNutcase really a big stick is all he needed, (as no blacksmiths around could easily make a giant axe) but yeh that would be cool

What happend to Karstark and who owns Dreadfort, Karhold and Last Hearth?
I say that Jon awards the wildlings the lands of the boltons as compensation since they still don't have land of their own. He'll probably ask the Umbers and Karstarks to bend the knee to who ever takes over winterfell.
My only guess. It's about rebuilding now for the future war with the White Walkers and possible retaliation from King's Landing. Cersei be damned if the Starks are back in power.
Unless there's any surviving umbers or karstarks, the titles will pass to Sansa, which she can just give to any house she pleases after that
Karstark fought for the Bolton's side. Last Hearth belongs to the Umbers. The Umbers also fought for the Boltons.
I have read, that Karstark had led the cavalery, like small jon umber had led the footsoldiers. They are also casting two nothern children for season 7. Maybe some children who will inherit Karhold and last hearth.
+Eldar Vila the issue is that a woman never ruled winterfell. I think they may have only agnatic only succession.

Just a small correction. Bran is not believed dead on the show. Sam told Jon in season 4 or 5, I can't remember exactly, that he and Gilly have met Bran on their way south of the Wall at the Nightfort.
Jon even used going after the deserters at Craster's as an excuse to go look for him. =)
He means by the public. Jon and Sansa are the only two people in the entire North presumably who know he's alive. Its clear word will eventually spread thanks to Theon continuing to mention it as well, but overall most people still think Bran's dead, which points to Sansa being next in line

Barry Hood yea wun wun died for people who first wanted him dead to kill people who wanted him dead. Its sad that wun wun is the least utilised giant in the complete history of giants, he only bitch-slapped some spears and destoyed a gate. I really hoped that the show-writters at least gave him a weapon or some armour, at least they could give him a damn tree so he could break throug the bolton encercelment.

Apart from all the inconsistencies in the show, what bugs me is the behaviour of the dragons. While Dany has apparently a special bond to the black one, the other two were chained up in a dungeon by her, not freed by her, and not visited by her for quite some time. Why would they do what she wants them to do, when she's not riding one, not even watching what they are up to? What happened to the wild and unpredictable creatures?
What makes you think they were wild and unpredictable? Dany chained them up because they fed on goats and burned innocent people unintentionally while feeding. Dany has a strong connection with the three of them. She's her mother. Being chained is like being grounded. Would you stop loving your mother just because she grounded you for being naughty? Well, there you have.
I don't see it that way. Dragons are wild, and they don't understand being chaned up as a consequense of their - natural - behaviour. They are not human.

Dumb question, why haven't we outfitted Wun Wun with even basic iron armor at this point in conflict? He has access to castle forged steel at this point. An armored giant seems like a massive tactical increase...
This bothered me too
any set of armor for a regular sized man, takes an incredible amount of time to craft. so for a giant, a decent set would probably take months to make, if not longer.
But they could've given Wun Wun a tree trunk to fight with at least. They showed him using a log during Hardhome and the other giants in the battle of Castle Black also used weapons. So what's the excuse here?
Time constraints with someone who tried to mimic a lot of classic battle tactics for emphasis on iconic brutality I suppose. Futility of the struggle since the stories are written in stone already, we just saw a poor interpretation of how the end was met for Wun Wun.
Because if they would give Wun Wun armor he will become Sauron.

The comment section pretty much reminds me of how GRRM got loads of pressure and insults from "fans" who wants to read the new book yet it hasn't come out. People need to calm their tits and show some respect. He makes one of the best analysis videoes out there with tons of research to back them up and this episode is HUGE. It sure takes longer and I don't mind that. Good things take time.

The most important assassinations, how they operate, how many are there, how long does any one faceless man stay away from Braavos? I know you covered a lot of this during the video about Arya, but I still think It'd be great

Another outstanding analysis. I have come to look forward to your posts as much as the episodes themselves. The sequence shots of JonSnow facing the charging army on the battlefield, rank ( in my opinion) as some of the best I've ever seen. I've read the books & so find the differing story arcs at times, difficult. However, I'm learning to treat each medium as a separate entity now. They're more enjoyable that way. That may come as a statement of the bloody obvious for more involved/ learned/ experts on these books but I only came to them two years ago. I started binge reading the books after being introduced to the first & second episodes of S1. ThankYou so much, for humour & intelligent dissection.
