You forgot to mention the part where Stannis captures Winterfell by disguising his soldiers with outfits acquired from his victory in the battle of ice.
I was hoping this would be a video on the book battle where the Bolton army betrayed Rodrik Cassel and captured Winterfell with Theon inside. That would've been interesting, considering not many people know about it since they didn't do that scene in the show.
Fantastic job as always. Felt like I was watching the episode again. I hope you guys cover the battles in the books once the next one comes out(if it does :P).
Well made summary ! The name of the Battle was: *The Battle of Bastards.* The long night battle was on another level, nothing could stop the Night King, if he was a bit more patient.
Do Battle beneath the Wall next. Seriously Jon and the Night's Watch squaring off against Mance Rayder and his colossal Wildling army was epic both in the books and in the show.
These videos are almost as entertaining as the episodes themselves I´ve seen the episode, but the narration brings a different perspective and flavour to the story, you´re pretty good
Technically neither of them is supposed to be called the battle of winterfell, the battle with the wights is technically supposed to be "the battle of ice and fire"
Magnificent work and a great add to your video channels, much appreciated. Please don't forget to make a video about the decisive (Battle of the Trident). All the love & best regards
I watched this battle for the first time this month and this was probably the best battle that D & D had written for the show. Shout out to the giant for helping Jon become King of The North
Stannis will never lose in the books . He's one of the best commanders in Westoros. Ramsay has never commanded a day in his life. Easy win for stannis.
Should have mentioned how the wildings army was pushed so hard against them selves that they couldn't lift their arms like a some kind of Hannibal cameo 😉 great video btw❤
When I saw the title, I was secretly hoping for the previous battles of Winterfell. The one, when Theon and the Ironborns took the castle from the Starks by surprise, and the other one, when Ramsay took it from Theon also by deceit and surprise. Also, it seems a bit inconsistent, that in the previous GoT videos, you always went with the book version of the battles and events, which are of course much more complex and realistic than the show, while in this video you chose to cover events that only happened in the show so far.
2:05 Walder Frey was not made lord paramount, at least in the books, Petyr Bealish held that title togehter with Lord of Harrenhal. A son of House Frey was named lord of Riverrun though
@@leandrocasas90 Nope, Petyr was granted the title lord paramount of the Riverlands when he brought the Tyrells over to the lannister site. Check the fandom wiki if you want confirmation
Not canon. I rate this fanfic 0/10 😤 Seriously though, I like this revisionist version of the battle more as it seems more tactically and strategically reasonable than the shitshow we got to watch in s5 and s6.
He really did. The Rickon move was genius and pulled the enemy's prime commander out into the open perfectly (who should have 100% died in the ensuing scuffle + arrows), and the pikemen flanking the remaining the remaining army would have been perfect. Like you say though, his only undoing was plot armour + deus ex magic cavalry that RKO'd him out of nowwhere.
Great video. Please do not stop, get to the end. I know that not everyone liked how things developed on the show, but that does not change the fact that it was one of the best shows ever produced on television, and all the thousands of people who worked on this show must be respected.
Why is this called the Battle of Winterfell instead of Ramsey vs Stannis? It makes more sense to refer to this as the Battle of the Bastards. And the following conflict at Winterfell is called the Battle for the Dawn.
This video will get demonitised if he put in "Battle of the Bastards". And these videos use effort and funds to make so the more money the better for the channel and the viewers.
It's a valiant effort to pretend it made sense. I was almost convinced when I shut off my brain. No really. Great camera work, nonsense strategy/tactics.

@@KingsandGenerals It won't be pretty, things always go wrong in ASOIAF battles for the victors. However the "Pink Letter" and the Theon TWoW chapter gives hints that Freys will drown in the Crofter Village lake, Stannis' death will be faked, and his men will wear Frey uniforms into Winterfell and take it from within. The Boltons are a "2nd Act Villain", they're get cleared off the board early in TWoW.
Apart from anything else, it is absurd an army could approach Winterfell--as the Vale forces are supposed to have done--with neither Stark nor Bolton armies knowing about them.
Of course yes. There are several ways to move an army in silence, it has been done several times in history and 2 times in the series (in battles of the book) before that.
@@DonMadruga72 Name these instances. My bet is that you're talking about a small force moving swiftly over a short period of time. Or an army sometimes might take a path deemed impassible (usually for good reason). I can think of four real world examples of that, which is not the same as depicted here--a relatively open land through which a significant cavalry force is passing for weeks (the distance from the Vale to Winterfell). Likewise it is possible to hide an army's exact position and deceive as it its exact size, but not that it exists, not if it is present for more than (maybe) a few days. Likewise it is possible an army moving as fast as possible might enter an area without properly scouting ahead and encounter an army that way. Which is not the case here. As at Waterloo, both Stark and Bolton armies should have known via scouts the Knights of the Vale were in the North, just as Napoleon and Wellington both knew the Prussians were on their way. Just as the Lannister/Tyrell army should have known there was a large horde of Dothraki (and a dragon) nearby via scouts. A force that large moving (as it must) through a territory for days cannot be successfully hidden even if it didn't have a dragon that needed feeding. The Free Folk were distracted by a full on battle and were not the most professional army so I can just barely believe Stannis' forces could surprise them. The same logic applies to the slave masters besieging Mereen (which however does indicate a grave tactical error on their part). But I cannot think of a single instance in military history wherein one large army could approach another large army over the course of days without both knowing the other was there pretty soon. The nearest example I can think on is Little Big Horn, when Custer leaped to a conclusion that a settlement was smaller and less defended than in fact it was. I think it was in Austerlitz Napoleon did successfully hide a portion of his army during the chaos of battle, but that is not at all the same thing. There was also Midway, wherein a scout plane was delayed taking off, but even so the Japanese fleet soon realized there must be a carrier or two in range. In Operation Market Garden the plan was so hastily put together the staff ignored intelligence involving a panzer group (I forget--it might have been a division) at Arnhem, in part because the Resistance was not trusted. That, again, is something else--a willful refusal to believe intelligence.
For a moment there I was so happy thinking they are covering the book battles; then I despaired. Still, excellently put together little video. It's just that well has been poisoned.
This video is very nice to Sansa. There's no mention of her not telling Jon about the vale and none at all of Jon picking to fight with less numbers thinking he had no choice.
I just like how Game of Throne as a story is so grounded the fans agreed technicality in war is important. I mean any story that is not GoT would be filled with people saying "It's fantasy" and what not but this one you can barely see any.

They're knights, men-at-arms, and other veteran soldiers who've been following him for his entire tenure in the show, and we know from all available material that he wasn't the sort to just throw together conscripts, but rather training what men he could gather up to a higher standard of discipline in order to compensate for their lower numbers
Jayne, Santa’s childhood friend was married to Ramsey, pretending to be Arya. This is another one of the changes HBO did v/s the books.
You know, I'm left wondering WHY Sansa never brought up the Knights of the Vale as an ally before the battle. A lot of Northerners could have been spared if she had brought them sooner.
Bad writing.
@@redblueproductions9739 No, if word got out that the Vale is supporting them, then Ramsay would never challenge them in an open field, and sansa knew they don't have time for a seige
@@adam6097 solid reason. Only one that I’ve seen that makes sense but to counter that, Sansa could’ve still told Jon and still had a similar battle but now Jon could’ve used less men.
Also the Vale was literally less than an hour away if they can still arrive during the middle of the battle. Bolton’s had a good chance to see them on their way.
@@adam6097 why didnt they have time for a siege?
@@razor5268 The threat south, Lannisters. Starks had enemies everywhere and they needed there ancestral home as fast as possible. Winterfell with 20% of its forces can last months with a seige so imagine Ramseys troops and his bannermen
I can't imagine an episode on the Battle of Winterfell without the narration falling apart.
"The best military minds of the Seven Kingdoms opted to put their siege engines on the frontline and used them only after their own cavalry frontally charged into complete darkness in which a dug-in infantry line who isn't exactly prone to morale breaks were waiting for them... fortunately, half the cavalry respawned a week later."

Yo everyone commenting "This is the Battle of the Bastards" I think Kings and Generals know that, it's just they'll get demonitised.
But there is a typo in their description "Date of the North"
Why would they get demonitised?
@@jhon-wm5ok Bastards doubles as a swear word
I would love if you do a documentary about the Battle of Blue Waters
between the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Golden Horde in Autumn 1362 or 1363 plz!
Idk what this is about but it sounds like a good battle!! 🗡️ ⚔️ 🛡️
I thought your documentaries were based on Martin's ASOIAF, like your Battle of the Black Water, & not D&D's GOT.
This part of the history is not in the book, whe stand the 6th book ^^
Yeah, exactly
This won't happen in the books.
I almost didn't click this because I thought it was the S8 Battle of Winterfell.
Battle of Winterfell initially refers to the battle that took place in the Winter Town between Iron Born/Bolton forces and Stark loyalist Northern forces under Sir Cassel. But now it refers to the night battle against the White Walker horde. This battle in the video is known as the 'Battle of the Bastards'.
This is not canon.
The books have not reached this far yet.
As for the show... what show?
@@Toto-95 it still made 0 sens, the amount of the bolton cavalry almost matched the entire stark army, so how the fck did a few horsemen from those 400 small houses soldiers withstand a 2000 cavalry charge and mele, why wasn't the giant armed with anything ? How the fck did jon survive those hail of arrows shot at him by 1000 archers ? What was that hill of corpses ? Why were the wildlings and the stark footmen along with the giant standing still while the boltons were slowly deploying their pikemen and tower shields ? How did ramsey miss an entire army of heavy cavalry crossing throught the neck while moat caillin was manned by the boltons after they kicked the ironborn out of it ? How did jon survive for that long with the most stupid battleplan and still butchering it by going lerroyjenkins full frontal against an organized army almost 3 times the size of his own rabble ?

I know of no show
Pog Champ I always thought the reason Jon survived the arrows was the Lord of Light protecting him from death so he could lead the fight against the Night King.
The "horn sound" of the Arryn's forces at 12:00 is a truck horn HAHAHAHAHAHA
Do the season 8 Battle of Winterfell with a flippant and sarcastic narration.
But weren't trebuchets capable of firing flaming missiles with the distance and accuracy of 20th century artillery? And archers shooting flaming arrows that didn't instantly get snuffed out from air turbulence? Did no one contact a medieval historian?

It's the truck ex machina
Starbucks delevery truck
Now I can't stop picturing Baelish speeding a f*cking semi into the Bolton formation.
I was hoping this would be a video on the book battle where the Bolton army betrayed Rodrik Cassel and captured Winterfell with Theon inside. That would've been interesting, considering not many people know about it since they didn't do that scene in the show.
Baz Battles did a video on this!
Fantastic job as always. Felt like I was watching the episode again. I hope you guys cover the battles in the books once the next one comes out(if it does :P).
Well made summary ! The name of the Battle was: *The Battle of Bastards.*
The long night battle was on another level, nothing could stop the Night King, if he was a bit more patient.
Do Battle beneath the Wall next. Seriously Jon and the Night's Watch squaring off against Mance Rayder and his colossal Wildling army was epic both in the books and in the show.
Best battle in the show, maybe the best episode in the show
I like how they completely forgot about Rickon Stark in the beginning. That really sums up his significance in the show.
Well this technically should be called "The second Battle of Winterfell"
These videos are almost as entertaining as the episodes themselves
I´ve seen the episode, but the narration brings a different perspective and flavour to the story, you´re pretty good
These ASOIAF videos rule! Keep ‘em coming!
Last time i was this early game of thrones was still a good show
I got so fucking scared when I read the title. I was like "No, not the Long Night, anything but the Long Night."
I got really excited. I thought this video is related to the real battle of ice in ASOIAF books and not the show.
Great video as usual though...
12:57 "Warhorns began to sound in the distance" *Uses truck horn sound effect*
This is Battle of the Bastards, the Battle of Winterfell is vs the Night King and the wights
Technically neither of them is supposed to be called the battle of winterfell, the battle with the wights is technically supposed to be "the battle of ice and fire"
The second one was more of a siege of Winterfell
Magnificent work and a great add to your video channels, much appreciated.
Please don't forget to make a video about the decisive (Battle of the Trident).
All the love & best regards
I watched this battle for the first time this month and this was probably the best battle that D & D had written for the show. Shout out to the giant for helping Jon become King of The North
wich is not saying mutch since the others were rather warm waste materials
The truck horn to signal the arrival of the knights of the vale really sold it for me.
Didn't they make Riverrun and their lords vassals to the House Frey? I mean, beyond putting a Frey in the throne of Riverrun
@@leandrocasas90 Nope, Petyr was granted the title lord paramount of the Riverlands when he brought the Tyrells over to the lannister site.
Check the fandom wiki if you want confirmation
Not canon. I rate this fanfic 0/10 😤
Seriously though, I like this revisionist version of the battle more as it seems more tactically and strategically reasonable than the shitshow we got to watch in s5 and s6.
@Azreal Cinder
There is no book version (at the time of making the video, at least). Both battles were ridiculous pieces of D&D fanfic
Brilliant timing!! This series shall have my love!!
13:14 "The true threat"
PFFFFFFT YEAH OK
This is really well made dude, keep up the good work!
Ramsay played this perfectly, but didn't account for gandalf
Deus ex machina strikes again!

Fantastic video, love the game of thrones battle analysis and history!
Great video. Please do not stop, get to the end. I know that not everyone liked how things developed on the show, but that does not change the fact that it was one of the best shows ever produced on television, and all the thousands of people who worked on this show must be respected.
13:10 the fact that this segment gives more justice to the White Walkers says it all about Dumb and Dumber 😂
No tactics here
I love the way this channel narrates events
as well as the way they represent battles
Why is this called the Battle of Winterfell instead of Ramsey vs Stannis? It makes more sense to refer to this as the Battle of the Bastards. And the following conflict at Winterfell is called the Battle for the Dawn.
This video will get demonitised if he put in "Battle of the Bastards". And these videos use effort and funds to make so the more money the better for the channel and the viewers.
Top stuff as always
Thank you for the great work, I think more wars from the book we are interested to see, for example the rebellion of the greyjoy and more, thank you
This channel deserves a million subs
Could you do the Battle of Lepanto or the Spanish Armada?
13:05 The fact this segment gave more Justice to the WW than what Dumb and Dumber did says it all 😂
It's a valiant effort to pretend it made sense. I was almost convinced when I shut off my brain.
No really. Great camera work, nonsense strategy/tactics.
Too fuckin' true. This battle won't even happen in the books. The fall of House Bolton is going to be because of Stannis Baratheon and thr other Northern houses.

This video won't age well when Stannis & the Manderlys take Winterfell in The Winds of Winter.
I don't think they will succeed, but we'll see. :-)
Please do the battle on the wall next 😊
*Hope you guys cover Attack on Titan battles*
Not Historical but the operations are interesting enough for a video

"Stannis"
It's "Stannis the Mannis".
I just like how Game of Throne as a story is so grounded the fans agreed technicality in war is important. I mean any story that is not GoT would be filled with people saying "It's fantasy" and what not but this one you can barely see any.
